Casey is ranked 34th out of 39 qualified goalies in the WHL with a .877 SA% which is not good considering the team in front of him is an absolute wagon. The only reason he played in that game is because the WHL went strictly by NHLCS rankings and they're still living off of his USHL playoff run last spring. For comparison, fellow MN goaltender Xavier Wendt (Plymouth) was first in the WHL for SA% at the time playing for an awful Tri City Americans team and he didn't play in the prospects game. Even with Tri City's current 11 game losing streak, Wendt still has a .912 SA%....35 pts ahead of Casey. People thinking he was coming to Dinkytown next season got a little ahead of themselves. He still needs to beat out the '07 in front of him who will most likely be returning to Medicine Hat next year. I'm sure it will be fine but people need to temper their expectations, he may be in Medicine Hat for two more seasons.
think the only chance casey ever had of coming in is if they literally couldn't get any other portal goalie and Airey left. plan has always seemed to be for '27
still think he's fighting a portal guy either we bring in this year (if Airey leaves) or to compete with him his Fr year. He's nowhere near ready

he could. It will be harder land him because his profile will be much bigger than his brothers was (brother is good but left and played for the gulls and then to the BCHL).
he looks like a very likely NTDPer if he wants it and that means all the big fish are around. Whoever Barr is coaching will have help with having his brother (though who knows if he’s still in college at that time), but competition will be much fiercer
just don’t like people saying that like it’s a sure thing, same as how I wouldn’t Joey Cullen as there’s way too many examples where it doesn’t and now in the portal era there’s nothing stopping one from transferring the second the younger may hit campus

I'd assume he gets drafted later here second go around (was eligible last year but is higher on the NA Scouting lists this year) just based on frame. If he's a kid you could get to hit and grind, could be an interesting long term project

UND envisioned him as a bottom 6 guy, their team is pretty loaded, I can see why they wanted him to play another year. On the Gophers part, we have an abundance of those guys as it stands. O’Neill would probably be the guy you’d want to fill one of those rolls though.

You need class balance and leadership with preferably a puck mover. Lots of guys littered across rosters w/ MN ties who would be seniors who can fill that role while not overly changing the pipeline (basically pushing out 2-3 guys who really should not be on the roster) in Murr (Kato), Cheslock and Williams (UST), Hennen and Young (Augustana), Loftus (SCSU) as well as I'm sure multiple guys from AHA schools that are looking to move. You need to add to the upperclassmen as thinking you're going to trot out Gruba to play 25+ min is incredibly foolish.
You add a couple of those kinds of players and you raise the floor of the D core pretty quickly. Bob has gotten his chance to play kindness rostering some of these guys and they've got their memory to have with Rud scoring against UND and Begley vs PSU in a couple wins this year. That they dressed in 23 and 26 games this year is insanity.
Williams, Hennen, Young and Loftus are not better than what we already have so I’d cross them off the list. Hennen is the closest but he’s not a Big 10 dman and if he is he should be third pair. We’re not in the market for third pair, we have plenty of those.

was only listing them as guys who have ties and have produced plus are 1-2 year players. We don't have any of those guys on the roster right now aside from hoping that's what Whipple does next year. You need some guys who raise the floor as well (the floor is extremely low right now with the current roster setup). That's more my point. And you raise your floor also by making sure your bottom guys are not unplayable (our bottom 3-4 currently are).
I agree with you you could not take 2 of the 4 guys that were listed and call it good. You need some high end guys too. More meant as a more inclusive list, not that they're all equal by any means

Let's get back to recruiting knies, cooley level players... this would be a massive and change this team instantly. May just fall into our lap although I have zero confidence in recruiting currently
Don't we have the top recruiting class coming in 2027? They still must be doing something right yet. I know this years was not stellar, but even this upcoming year looks bright.
