He has the Gophers on his list of 6 or 7 schools.

Cullen Potter from the Dallas Jr Stars U16 team played in the Tier 1 playoffs in Blaine last weekend.  He looked like the best player in the tournament of any age.  He’s the son of Jenny Potter.

I’ll second this. Kid is the quite the talent. I’ve heard his families only goal is to get him to the NHL as fast as possible though.

They are certifiably nuts!!

The 07 to go all in on is Conrad Fondryk!!  I’m not exaggerating when I say at 12 or 13 he might have had the best hands in the state, older players included!

This reminds me of something Don Lucia said while he was the Gophers head coach. It's in the first 30 seconds of this video/speech.

Why did Jenny Potter transfer to UMD after leading the Gophers in scoring as a freshman?

@davey-j Yikes!  They do seem like hockey nomads. That said the kid is a great skater. Reminds me of Jack Hughes at that age. One of the parents told me he was playing up a year with the U16s. As far as going pro ASAP either USNTDP/college or Canada Major Junior would seem like the likely course.

Jake Fisher no longer committed to Northern Michigan. Led the Elite League in scoring this fall. His Cretin team will be on the big stage at the X next week.

He's also only 17 so he may have more runway to go. Certainly worth a look if we have a spot. I think he was set to go to NMU in 24-25, so not sure what the 23-24 plan is.

He signed a letter of intent and I've heard NMU isn't letting him out so that situation will have to come to a head at some point.

With Wisconsin’s coaching change doesn’t that allow committed players an out?

if so I’d love to see us take a run at Finn Brink.  I was really impressed with his level of compete last year (when I saw him at state).  Always working and doing the little things.  Seems like a great fit to compliment all the highly touted incoming forwards

Looks like Jake Fisher is deciding between Notre Dame and Denver according to the rink live article:

I'm sure the family didn't pay tuition at CDH for Fisher to pay 50% or more tution to play/get educated at NMU -- this checks out.

It looks like he could have applied for tuition assistance via CDH's website ?

So, Sam Spehar is Dave Spehar's kid, but I wonder, is Jacob Kvasnicka any relation to former Gopher Baseballer Jay Kvasnicka?

I brought up this question a while back and I don’t recall we ever got an answer. Jay does have a son (Mike) who also played baseball for Maroon M Small  and is now an assistant coach there. Mike played baseball and hockey at Lakeville North. He has two children, neither of which are named Jacob. My research hasn’t found a link between Jacob and Jay or Mike, but as @bertogliat suggested, it’s not the most common name around.

Mike is 34 years old. I played against him in legion ball. While its possible he has a 15-year-old, I kind of don't think so because I don't recall ever hearing about him being a dad while with the Gophers.

I still remember playing Mike a few times throughout the years. He hit one of the farthest home runs I've ever seen. Halfway deep in the trees in right center at Fredrickson Field in Elko/New Market. Ball had to have been 450 feet, if not more. As a high school kid.

A LOT of Gopher targets on that list. The way Bob is rolling, likely we see a handful or more commit come August.

Will be interesting to see who Bob targets out of that group. Potter and Fondrk might be the best players from MN but I don't know if you want to deal with Potter's parents, could be a Lucius situation, and Fondrk has bounced around a lot as well.

Kvasnicka, Moe, Simpson, Phillips, and West could all be Gopher level players but it's pretty early yet.

I wouldn't even count on Potter playing college hockey. They only have one goal, get to NHL as fast as possible.

Potter screams Lucius to me. Fondrk probably goes out east. Moe is as good as ours once he’s able to commit (multiple pictures of him on Eden Prairie’s twitter page wearing Gopher sweatshirts and hats and stuff plus his line mate is Teddy Townsend).

Apparently Dave is a bit of a crazy hockey parent (different team each year) so we’ll see where Sam Spehar ends up.

The first time I played against him he went 4/4 with a double and 3 homers.

I love that for Spehar’s youth team they actually say “too many to list.”  That’s gotta be a shot at the family for bouncing the kid around.

I've heard some thoughts from those knowledegable of the Spehar manuevering that it's not just year to year, it has even occured when the family didn't like how the first month of practice was run or bench managed in the first few games. Spehar was the leading scorer for the Sioux Falls Power team, so he probably got the ice time he was looking for there.

https://www.siouxfallspower.com/

Tier I hockey is definitely attractive to certain people, but it's the opposite path of what most Minnesotan's have been raised to believe.

What happened to him? We played against him when he played for Minnetonka SQA. If you could have played Minnetonka PWAA, BAA, Minnetonka varsity, how could you slip to the Power?

Jumped around to like 5 different associations during that time. Played Chaska varsity as a freshman. Actually did pretty well. Then made the move to Tier 1.

I assume he will go WHL rather than college?  Will a big D1 program offer a scholarship to him if he is so flighty?
