Freshman Casper Lang is making his varsity debut (weather permitting) for Hill Murray against his very own youth program, Mahtomedi tonight. He’s a terrific kid and as complete of a hockey player as you will find.  He might not have a single, dominant attribute (except for his piss and vinegar) but he is a do-it-all defenseman who will surely have some major programs following him!

His sister, Josie recently committed to Providence.

Kraft with another 3 point night. Really hoping the Spuds make state so I have a chance to see him play in person.

@maroon_and_gold His skating must improve tremendously if he wants to continue playing.  Hands of God, awesome shot and a great hockey IQ.

Does anyone know if we’re in the mix for James Hagens, Eiserman’s linemate w/ the ntdp? Any ideas on where he’d end up should he not come the U?

Sounding like Harvard is very likely (his brother is committed there and they have been recruiting very well lately). We should be in conversations though will how well him and Eiserman have clicked this year not to mention a couple other  Gopher committed teammates on the U17 team.

Jackson Nevers has really taken a big step this year for Edina. If I’m Bob I’m offering him with the precursor that he plays 2 years of juniors post high school to work on his skating.

He really seems to be the hot topic in HS hockey this year. He missed the first two games and Edina scored no goals. They’ve only lost his first game since he’s been back.

Wonder what offers he’s picked up so far this season.  Mason seems to be one of Bob’s favorite players so it sure feels like Jackson will follow the family tradition to the U.

I keep saying if he hasn’t committed yet, to me that means we haven’t offered (yet). Assuming he is a Gopher fan.

Gotta admit that Motzko's faith in Mason has paid off. For a couple years there he had the look of a 3rd or fourth-line guy. Now, he's a key component to the team.

I am sure he has been mentioned here, but Mason Moe is second on Eden Prairie in scoring (behind Townsend) as a freshman. Very impressive.

Warroad SOPHOMORE forward Carson Pilgrim is out scoring fellow line mate, likely Mr. Hockey winner and projected 2nd rounder Jayson Shaugabay. As a sophomore. I get that playing on a line with Shaugabay probably helps a lot but there is a third member to that line who has less than half the points Pilgrim does.

Gotta be generating some buzz, no? Scored two against Wayzata so you can’t argue he’s doing it against cupcakes.

Larry Olimb, Walt Olds and Willy Marvin are 3 that come to mind for me. I'm sure there may be a couple of others.

There was a kid named Bob Fish back in the Brooks days. Came in after some time with the Fargo-Moorhead team in the old Midwest Junior League.

I assume you mean Wally Olds. He was from Baudette.

Yep. You are correct. He was born in Warroad but grew up in Baudette. So Baudette is more accurate for this exercise.

I wonder if Baudette has a hospital. This is what “Gopher Hockey History” shows for Warroadians (if thats not the term, it should be)

Getting Olimb out of Warroad was a huge 'get' for Wooger.  Olimb may have been the most versatile player MN has ever had, he played everywhere and in every situation and was always outstanding no matter the role.

He's an '06 and I can't believe he's not committed. He's got a real knack for scoring, always has. Good speed, crazy hockey sense. Yes, he's lined up with an assist machine in Shaugabay. Warroad's first line is Pilgrim centering Shaugabay and Marvin-Cordes. Fun fact, Carson Pilgrim is Jason Shaugabay's nephew.

I’ve seen Cooper play many games!  He plays with an edge and sometimes (used to anyway) cross the line often and was sometimes quite dirty and careless…but, he’s a very talented player and if he has matured in the past couple years, he’s definitely someone to keep tabs on.

I miss the "good old days" when players would score a goal, celebrate with their four teammates on the ice, and then skate back to the bench. Be passionate about the game but don't be individually obnoxious.

Too many young players these days treat a goal scored like it is an individual TikTok story...

This is the one thing that I like about the current squad, is that they don't seem to over celebrate a goal unless it is an OT winner ( or players 1st Gopher goal ). Snuggy seems to be the only player who really gets jacked up, and that isn't even much. I have seen Fantilli act like he wins the cup on every goal he has scored this year. A couple of weeks ago, he scored an empty net goal, and pointed at the net like a ref would. He is #1 on the list of showboaters. The World Jrs used to be really bad too, but they have toned it down.

That is obviously the BIG one that sticks out. ( I had already forgotten about it ) It was stupid, and I'm sure he has learned his lesson, and Bob benched him for the better part of the game. Plus, I'm sure there was some sort of additional punishment. It was 1 guy, and am glad that we don't have a bunch of incidents like that. In general, like I said, they have been pretty business like in their celebrations.

Fantilli is immature and seems to enjoy showing up the other team, while rubbing it in to their fan base. He's a showboat and a talent, and some day he'll learn that what goes around comes around. #michaelschutte

There was a delicious slice of schadenfreude served that night as Schutte, the guy who hushed the crowd early, committed the game-deciding penalty and watched—helpless and alone—from the penalty box as his fairytale team of destiny went down in flames.

This. 17 on North Dakota goes for a skate every time he scores like a peewee celebrating in front of his dad. Howard on UMD too and you already mentioned Fantilli. It’s all me me me behavior. Love that our guys don’t do that.

I thought what Schutte did was clever in the same way when Kessel cupped his ear.  I agree that some of the cellies get a bit awkward but one size and situation does not fit all.

I still think the STA kid parting the student section sea in high school was wicked funny.

I also remember Sam Lofquist cupping his ear...which was funny because I doubt the Badger fans cared much he had chosen the Gophers.

I can appreciate a good celly but am also a fan of the low-key team celebration.

In the state tourney all rules are off and I love it. The parting of the Red Sea celly was the best ever and it’s not even close

is there a video of this?

I've not been able to find it, although I am sure it was out there at one point.

Cullen Potter from the Dallas Jr Stars U16 team played in the Tier 1 playoffs in Blaine last weekend.  He looked like the best player in the tournament of any age.  He’s the son of Jenny Potter.

I’ll second this. Kid is the quite the talent. I’ve heard his families only goal is to get him to the NHL as fast as possible though.
