Whipple looked hurt prior to the goal. Shoulder injury?
Gophers 5
Refs/Sue 3
GREAT win over the #3 team
Quote: gopherguy06Whipple looked hurt prior to the goal. Shoulder injury?
Looked like separated shoulder or collar bone. Couldn’t hold his stick. Either would be long term.
If only Beckett could snipe like that when he gets it in the slot
Ludtke hasn't taken a shift since the Humphreys 2nd goal. Looked to be a hand thing earlier
Step 1: Beat UND
Step 2: Sweep UND
Step 3:
Step 4: Natty

With a different officiating crew I think we win 6-1 but the guys fought through it.
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Let’s sweep these dweebs and make @eric-vegoe and @jupiter double wrong
Quote: Walker? I Barely Know HerIf only Beckett could snipe like that when he gets it in the slot
He clearly needs to shoot from further away rather than always take the puck to the net. 😉

Loved that it was Humphreys x2. I’m perfectly ok with edge if you back it up
Five goals and no goals from the top line. They are clearly saving their goals for tomorrow.
Hey, how do I change my Gopher Strike pick for today? 😉
More of this, please...

Think this was the version of the gophers we all thought we’d see with contributions up and down the lineup. That much harder to defend
unds vaunted 1st dmen looked awful tonight. Carels and Verhoeff were both noticeably bad on the puck. McKenzie was worse but he’s only a 3rd lol
undrafted old man Evan Murr had his best game as a Gopher
And Some stick taps for Ludtke. Dude played a whale of a game
Quote: The RubeObviously it is not. Hence the call. Right call, bad whistle.
Sorry, but the replay showed it in before whistle sounded. Both TV announcers concluded the same. Not that it matters given the outcome.
Love how they looked tonight. Whipple and Ludtke are a heavy price, though. Hope Smith’s feet got wet enough.

That is what I saw too. I am glad it didn't impact the result.
Gopher PP 1 for 3, 8 shots on goal
The Gopher Power Play was definitely creating a lot of chances tonight.
Sue PP 1 for 5, 3 shots on goal
The Gophers Penalty Kill did a GREAT job to be short handed 5 times and only give up 3 shots on goal.

Gophers did a great job of getting their sticks in passing lanes and disrupting the Whioux passes.
Great zone exists. Great play to keep the zone on the offensive end. Now they know the effort level it takes. Hopefully they can keep the pace and the Whipple injury isn’t as bad as it looked. Not likely though.
HUGE game! Thank you coach Larson!😁🍻
“Good pace, a lot of north and south, or it could be east and west, I’m not sure but either way…” Wooger
One thing that I remember really lacking in that Notre Dame 3 game playoff series a couple seasons back was the lack of net front presence and power forwards who excelled in that skillset. The team tried to crash the net at times but mostly got relegated to endlessly probing the perimeter and the times they did crash just resulted in them getting knocked and struggling to get much puck control or shots down low. Today we saw multiple examples of them actually doing this successfully and it's good to see them attempting this stuff and building it into their game, I imagine that's a point of emphasis for Larson. Just gotta hope some of these guys stick around for four years and become a real force in that area on a more consistent basis. Ideally we see more of that out of Moore too, he has the size to do it.
Also liked Murr's patience with the puck he had some noticeably good plays today. Di Pasquo was good tonight, I don't think he's been bad to start the season other than that first Duluth game but he can play better and we saw that today.
The Whipple injury was with the Sue's goalie pulled so it was basically 6 on 4. Great effort all around to get a big clear so John could get off the ice.
That Murr kid is pretty good. So calm with the puck. One of those D who seems to be able to skate through a team at half speed and hold onto the puck with no panic.
And where was this team for the first four games? Didn't look like the same team. More like what we expected with the talent on paper. Of course with Whipple almost for sure out, and Ludtke likely out, things get a little tougher. (Anyone see what happened to whipple on the play? I just noticed when he had trouble picking up his stick and then holding with one hand, shoulder dragging, before heading to bench. Didn't see the hit.)
I know Smith is expected to be quite good, not many freshman D take off in the first half of freshman season without learning from errors playing against bigger and faster players. I know his offensive numbers were huge last year, but how is his defense? Don't think he is likely to step in and fill Mr. Whipple's shoes (skates). hopefully the rest can pick up some of the slack.
The Gophers did a much better job of getting their shots on net than the Sue did.
Gophers 35 shots on goal, 55 shot attempts (64%)
Sue 24 shots on goal, 61 shot attempts (39%)
Gophers missed the net on 11 shot attempts and had 9 shots blocked
Sue missed the net on 17 shot attempts and had 20 shots blocked
Many Gopher players were taking one (or more) for the team tonight blocking 20 shots.
Can't wait to go down for game tomorrow night. Wondering, is Malcolm Yard Market a good stop for food before the game? Fast enough? Been to Surley the last couple years, but always packed and the lack of anything but beer isn't great for the wife.
It baffles me why the refs don't want to call anything on the Siouxage. Have they bought into that hard nosed hockey BS? That hit on Mooney was a textbook check from behind.
Murr showed tonight why he's an All American. Humpheys is an exciting addition. Clutch EN goal by Hendrickson. BIG WIN by the Gophers!
The nice thing about Malcom Yards is there no wait for the check. You just leave, you’ve already paid. Drop the card in the box as you walk out. You’ll get a receipt via email around 11:00 pm.
While I would love a blowout tomorrow night, I don't want to see it. Why? UND will go full throttle on cheap shots/chippy play (I am being polite in my language). Just get the win, and move on.

Yeah from what I remember it's fairly quick at least at some of those restaurants.

They're going to do that regardless.

Exactly.. it’s whioux they are

Ah, but the severity of their "play." Will it be like tonight, or will they REALLY go full throttle, risk suspension.

Great game! So much fun to watch the team we thought they could be when the roster formed this offseason. Hope Whipple and Ludtke are ok and back soon. Thought they both played great tonight. I said it a few days ago and I’ll say it again, try telling the players and the fans that this rivalry doesn’t matter anymore. It was battle from basically the drop of the puck. The boys better buckle up because tomorrow is going to be a tough one. Excited to see how they do!
Ludtke played out of his fucking mind. Whipple had a great game. Murr looked like how I thought he would. Humphreys played incredible (minus a dumb penalty but it is what it is). Luca did his job. Brooks Cullen continues to do exactly what he's on the team to do. What a win.
I went back to watch the Whipple play, it wasn't a dirty hit or anything but it sure looks like he messed his shoulder up bad.
Come back tomorrow and play a full 60 minutes and move on to conference play. GO GOPHERS
Best showing by the boys all year so far not even close. Better 5 on 5 team all night. Some sketchy calls is the only way the green guys could generate any momentum.
Really fun night at the rink! Those were some LOUD rousers!!!
I think Luca played like "Yes, I belong here, last week was a fluke."

Whipple is almost certainly separated shoulder. Best case scenario dislocated. You’re up Smith.

Either of those is better than a broken collar bone unless he tore the entire thing

I’m the farthest thing possible from a medical professional, but as someone who’s dislocated their shoulder several times, the way his arm was hanging down his side looked very familiar.
Obviously won’t play tomorrow. Guessing we’ll have to wait til the Wednesday presser for a timeline.
What a great game by the Gophers. Fantastic effort up and down the lineup.
Murr is so calm. Henricks so smooth. Kvasnicka a total stud.
Major bummer about Whipple. He is a tough SOB, my guess is he’s out until after Christmas. Man I hope I am wrong.
I missed the Ludkte injury, sounds like others think it’s a hand?
Gopher fans really turned out well, just based on the ice-level clips I saw on the team socials. Especially given our record coming into tonight and where UND is ranked. Glad they got to see a solid W.
those Whioux fans must have been very obnoxious since my TV made it seem like there was 2x more of them in the building
The Fawks fans were very boisterous, to be sure.

I guess Logan Hensler got his revenge on Whipple...
when Jim and Pat came back from commercial one time midway in the 3rd they showed Ludtke on the bench trying to make his right hand work properly with the trainer. Didn't see him take another shift after that and Larson reshuffled the centers, so I put 2&2 together
Been a long time since I’ve seen a Gopher team outwork an opponent that bad. The good Bob teams always had the skill edge so they rarely had to. You could feel the urgency in this team.

Nevers in for Ludtke. Sink or swim time for Smith now.

This. They outskated and out hustled und tonight.
they also clearly spent time watching film as the number of passes they picked was pretty obvious they knew tendencies.
In short, I think they realized, in a short prep time, this is UND. Huge rival. Don't f* this up. Win or lose, go hard, go tough, go at them.
