I will be there for my first home game of the year! (was up in St. Cloud last weekend) The Michigan playoff game was my last home game. Should be fun. Hoping to see some goals scored!
Like many, this weekend has been circled on my calendar since the schedule was released. Should be two good games with some good crowds and fun atmosphere. Students will be (or already are) back on campus so that will of course add to the fun. Even with Michigan having a more inconsistent season than last year this will still be a good test against a team with a lot of talent and a sweep would be huge!

Only 168 tickets left for the game on Friday night. However, oddly enough, there are quite a few left for the game on Saturday. Hopefully more get bought up over the course of the week and we get good crowds for both games.
Fridays game was included in the Black Friday 50% off deal, whereas Saturdays wasn’t. Friday also had the $30 ticket and a beverage deal. Guessing that has something to do with it.

My guess is that Luke is out. The Gophers are deep enough at d that they can make sure he is 100% before he returns. Not sure what John's issues are, hopefully the flu or something minor. I quickly re-watched the Friday game and John's last shift was with about 11 minutes left in the 3rd. I didn't see any big hit or anything unusual. The full 4th line didn't play those last 11 minutes either because the Gophers were trying to tie it. Lamb and Kurth rotated in on the 2nd and 3rd lines, but Pino and John M. did not. Maybe Bob will fill us in more tonight on the coaches show or at Weds media availability.

I'd expect John to get a game. Not sure what the injury situation is with Luke.

Interesting to see that clear of an impact from the promotions. I usually go on Fridays and it is definitely usually the smaller crowd.
Hopefully they are very cautious with Luke. We will be just fine without him, we are loaded on defense.
edit: to clarify, I’d just give Faber, Lacombe, and Johnson more ice time
Dress six defensemen and give Faber, Johnson, and LaCombe more ice time. Or play Fish. I think Fish is a more than capable defenseman and I would be totally fine seeing him dressed as the 7th D. Pretty sure we also heard at the beginning of the season that he was also practicing a bit with the forwards so it sounds like he can do a little bit of everything and be put in and relied upon in several different situations.I hope we stick with Motzko’s usual lineup of having the extra skater be a defenseman and we see Carl Fish back in the lineup.

Could be, but they showed him briefly on the ice and it looked like he was grabbing his shoulder as it looked like his shoulder hit the boards first.

I am not fond of it as well. I liked the old days where if you won the game in OT, you received full points. I always liked how that differentiated us from the NHL. But that is gone...
When it comes to the GPL standing for the BigTen... I do not use ties. I go strictly on points. I cannot make it any simpler than that. It obviously does not show your NCAA Record since they recognize ties. But it is the league record and ties do not exist in the league.

Some of us here are old enough to remember tie games. Not sure how we survived it though.
Ties were perfectly fine...the problem was lots of teams in college and the NHL abused it when they knew they had no chance to win. Watching mediocre squads play for the tie got boring fast. I would rather go back to that though than watch this 3x3 crap followed by shootouts.
Looking forward to this weekend! Another Gophers home sweep and Culvers 2 days in a row! It will be fun! Go Gophers! 
Another weekend of gopher hockey on Red lake ice fishing. Go gophers!!
Only 61 tickets left for the game on Friday. I know Michigan is having a bit of an inconsistent season but here are a few things that, I wouldn’t say worry me, but I hope the Gophers watch out for. Although maybe not quite as consistent and solid as last year this Michigan team still has a lot of talent and can hurt you if you’re not paying attention. Also have this dude named Adam Fantilli. He’s kind of good. Currently sitting at 8th in the pairwise. So in a decent position but from their point of view they can’t really afford to lose many more games. Also, like everyone else we’ll face, the boost they would get from winning even one game against would be big for them. Finally, while I know we had guys out as well, I would imagine that after the chaotic (in terms of who was healthy, especially for them) series in Ann Arbor they have a big chip on their shoulder and are coming in with a point to prove. Let’s not even give them the chance. I hope we just play our best brand of Gopher hockey and we come out firing. Let’s see two solid wins and play out the weekend to the Battle Hymn of the Republic.

I like that. I still would like to see Fish dressed as the extra skater. If we don’t rotate through seven D and he plays a more traditional extra skater role while we have the other six defensemen in legit pairs that totally makes sense. But no offense to Schmidt but of the two I’d prefer Fish dress. I suppose you could have whoever isn’t on the fourth line dress as the extra skater. Strobel, Pino, or J. Mittlestadt. But personally I prefer the extra skater be a defenseman.

Bob talking about the Vikings game and then sarcastically about an all Minnesota conference was amusing. As the season goes on I like Chesley more and more. Not to project too far into the future but if he’s here his Junior year I personally think he has Captain written all over him. As far as Ryan Johnson, I’ve always liked his game and how he’s steadily gotten better. Like a Jonas Brodin he’s a real steady eddie. He also comes across as just the nicest kid. Seems really humble and respectful.
It’s a crime how underrated Johnson is. Super-duper skilled.

Games against Michigan tend to be more open ice offensive games which lends more importance to which goalie plays better. Close had a REALLY good game last Saturday not only was it a shut out but Notre Dame definitely tested him with quality chances. Hopefully Closer is on his game again this weekend.

Im impressed that they seem to be giving away some quality items. The mugs a few weeks ago were prime. No sponsor logo messing up the design. And unless there’s something on the back of the tote, again a clean Gopher image.
They had some pretty cheap crap the last few years. These items will last and be USED, hence continue the promotion.
