Kind of odd to hold such a grudge based on a Tweet (if it being the case). Every fanbase has insufferable trolls on Twitter. It is a cesspool.

I'm fine with that type of joke, but probably shouldn't be when the guy is at a charity event cheering up a kid with cancer.

But Johnson also needs to realize that guy (or a few other Twitter trolls) don't represent all Wild fans.

I am guessing it is also a lot more than one tweet... That was just an example.

Sure. Any active Twitter user with fame gets trash replies. But as someone who has played for Blues/Avs, understandable he hears it more from Wild fans...

I don’t blame Ben for choosing the Avs or dislike him for it. I just dislike the Avs. Ranta was drafted by them. Ben chose them. I just really, really despise that team and fanbase, but will cheer for him (when he isn’t playing the wild). Erik Johnson can go pound sand though.

Why the dislike for Erik Johnson?

He has a disdain for Minnesota Wild fans (and has made that very clear publicly) and the feeling has become very much mutual.

Probably because a Wild fan went after him when he was at a charity event posing for a photo with a kid with cancer. I do not blame Eric at all. Vegoe showed me the tweet last night. Just sickening.

That was indeed sickening and completely out of line, but Erik has been a jerk to Wild fans generally for years too. It’s almost like he relishes in being the Minnesotan on the top rival team. I don’t have any animosity towards him as a person. I just don’t really like him as a player. He’s an opponent that makes it easy for opposing fans to dislike him.

Hey @Vegoe do you have a link to that tweet?

https://twitter.com/ajhubs/status/572220320318283776?s=20&t=MEU_a3KlvypI_tizH62UVA

That tweet sucks and is why I don’t have Twitter anymore. Everyone is tough talking behind a Twitter handle. But the boo birds began way before than, as you can tell by the fan already heckling him. It really began in the playoff series in 2013 (we won) and the following season in 2014. There was a nasty elbow he through at Haala and got the boot that really started all the Erik Johnson hate. He just did it again a couple weeks ago with a dirty cross check to Jost that the Colorado coach was smirking about. It’s been pretty well documented the Avs coach did not like Jost, either. Johnson may be a choir boy when he plays every other team, but seems he’s in the box often against the Wild.

The tweet was wrong but old EJ has done more than enough to earn the reputation as disliked by MN fans. He has taken many shots at the Wild fan base outside of just that one tweet too, which he is 100% entitled to do.

Sorry for the long post on something that doesn’t really matter.

Everything I’ve seen has Knies returning this year, but you never know.

The longer LaCombe and Johnson take, the more confident I feel that they come back.

It seemed to me that when Johnson played for the Gophers, that he was more trying to position himself for the NHL and less about being a good college player. Seemed like he had one foot out the door form the minute he stepped on the ice.

When he started in St Louis, he was a cheap, jerk of a player. IIRC he seemed to be out for the big hit or to fight Wild players more than others. I disliked him right away.

But I haven't paid any attention to him in along time, so he must have kept up act if other Wild fans are giving him grief like this.

I don't think they see it that way, but I could be wrong.

After looking at Capfriendly I can see why Meyers would choose the Avs, they have a lot of UFA's for next season so there should be spots available for him to compete for there. Toronto has some UFA's but Knies would have to be comfortable knowing that he could compete for a spot and not spend a huge amount of time on the Marlies.

But if a player is only being offered an ATO for this year, then they're not costing themseleves nearly as much.

I'm sure Knies is the topic of this tweet as Leafs seemingly have to entice him to sign. I don't think Knies is making his decision over $20-$50k.

I don't think that's the case with Johnson or LaCombe based on the verbiage of the comments when GMs of Buffalo/Anaheim have spoken about them.

Totally agree! That seemed like a total reach. I don’t really know what that would have to do with Knies. If anything, Meyers’ story might show what staying college an extra year can do for your game. But even then, I don’t really see the connection between the two situations.

I think in the case of Knies, LaCombe, and Johnson the money they would get if they signed right now would be the same after next season. Their decisions, I would assume, would be could they compete and stick for a spot in the NHL or do they want to commit to their development in the AHL and give up their college playing days?

If anyone has been following the Twitter threads by Chris Pronger this past week you get a real sense of what NHL players are being paid and how much they take home in the end. That may be playing in some of these guys minds about the enticement of the money.

It's sort of like the old saying, "do you want a wedding or a marriage?"..."do you want the money or a career?" There is so much going on for these guys to determine whether signing or not is a good career move.

Don’t get me wrong, Knies was outstanding this year and I think he’ll be a great pro, but it amazes me how much Toronto is hyping him like he’ll take them over the top. He’s still got work to do and don’t know if he really would change the needle on a postseason run for them in any way this year

Edit: not necessarily meant as a comment on this video specifically, but the general fan/media vibe towards him

Congrats to Ben.

Who's a bigger one? It's not Chicago and it's not St. Louis, though they should be. Chicago was a great rivalry back when the North Stars were good.

Minnesota's rivalries it seems are as ambiguous as its logo.

Honestly I don't know if we have one...nor do I think we need to have one. I remember when Vancouver was considered one...don't miss that much.

The NHL goes about this stuff all wrong. They think if you just force a lot of games between teams (or have a weird playoff structure that sucks and is confusing) that they can make things appear out of thin air. They can't.

It makes sense if they're ambivalent about having those guys turn pro since they're probably going to the AHL anyway.

John Beecher signed an ATO deal. He was a 2019 1st round pick. He left after his junior year.

Brendan Brisson signed an PTO deal. He was a 2020 1st round pick. He left after his sophomore year.

Thomas Bordeleau signed an ATO deal. He was a 2020 2nd round pick. He left after his sophomore year.

It makes no sense to burn a year of a contract on a guy if they want to turn pro anyway.

I think it is when Gopher Puck Live goes away at 4pm to go to the different platform so we would not be able to come here to get the scoops

I guess it all depends on how you define cheap. The guy has played over 850 games and has just over 500 PIMs. Compare that to a guy like Evander Kane who has less games and more than twice the minutes.

Not quite when it "goes away" just being shut down at 4 CT today to do the migration.

The forum WILL look different afterward. Check the Website updates thread for more details: https://www.gopherpucklive.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=13537

Jup and Vegoe pretty critical of Walker. I think it’s fair, but to me Brodzinski was really the passenger on that line. His effort is so inconsistent, and for big guy doesn’t get to front of net enough. I’ll take Walker on 5th year and let Brodz go to portal

Yeah, Walker would at times at least add something. Brodzinski has been a passenger, if not an anchor, on that line for much of the year. But to be honest, the only guy on that line who I thought really made an impact night in and night out was 27. Also, it would be frustrating to see Walker get invited back but Sorenson told there’s no room. Unless it’s a Lafontaine situation I think we really need to honor the guys that are here and the guys coming in.

To be fair, if McLaughlin had wanted to come back I would have welcomed him back with open arms. So I suppose I’m a bit of a hypocrite LoL

I think that Brodzinski has actually looked better when he's been away from the Walker-McLaughlin line this season. When the three of them are out there together, I don't think the puck moves very well and the possessions are usually just a pass, shot, puck battle type shifts. Against better teams the shifts are pass, shot and then play defense.

I’m very excited about the talent we’re bringing in but are we in any danger of losing guys who, while albeit are probably less talented, are at least vets experienced in the college game? Don’t we want a good mix of young talent and older, experienced players that can guide the younger guys? I mean, what upperclassmen are left at forward? Maybe I’m just being a total worry wart but we always hear how we have to get older and yet we’re losing two upperclassmen role players who work their buts off.

I would think he is looking for more ice time or bigger role and i dont blame him, he would have most likely been on the 3rd/4th line again and behind some very talented guys for powerplay time

I don't follow Gopher hockey as closely as most of you do, so can someone provide an update on Mariucci Arena updates? (weren't there several renovations planned like locker rooms, smaller sheet of ice, etc.)

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

Woah this new website is crazy. Perbix in the portal? Guess they’re making room for that big freshman class. Nevers can take his spot on the fourth line not a big deal but I still liked 25’s game.

I never would have said this a year ago, but I almost would rather have Perbix stick around than Brodzinski. Maybe Brodzinski can find some chemistry with new line mates next year, because he didn't seem to click with Sammy and Blake.

Don’t think Brodzinski was all that great either but as long as he puts 12 pucks in the net again he can stay as long as he wants
