These are the players UST should be DEVOURING in the portal. Jonny and Ben would turn their whole team around. Cruikshank might be looking for somewhere a little more high end.

Brinkman leaving might be an indicator that LaCombe and Johnson come back….

Maybe Ben felt that he might get displaced a bit with the incoming D and the others all returning maybe?

We still have 6 freshmen forwards (7? Mittelstadt?) filling in 4 spots (3 seniors, Meyers). Still just doesn’t add up.

16 or 17 forwards including Schmidt and potentially Mittelstadt as 17th would probably be fine.

Now filling up 5 spots. So Jonny helps a little bit there. Still sad to see him go.

No he was a senior so now it’s time to go. I don’t know why people are so confused about this.

Like with McManus the year before him, we should thank Brinkman for his 4 years of Pride on Ice and wish him well.

I think GPL’s gonna miss the criticism line be honest Mr. Green What was your favorite Sammy and Mac play of their four years? Mine has to be the jerseygate overtime winner in Cloud this year. That play perfectly encapsulated their game so well :biggrin2: I feel like they ran that back door play about 70 times over their four years. Definitely a dynamic duo!

Take this for what it's worth but a friend of a friend says Meyers will announce the decision tomorrow. Also Boynton is apparently staying put. If that's true, we're running back the same group of goalies.

That’s gotta be one of the best! I also liked the game winning goal against Penn State in the playoffs and Walkers goal against Wisconsin.

Glad there’s not much to the Boynton drama. He’s a good goalie we could definitely use him.

Will be interesting to see what Bob does in net. Just let Close run with it? or switch off Close one night Boynt/Bart the other.

I'd imagine if this is the group, its a competition. Close has the edge I guess, but I'd imagine bob let's them decide.

Feels like tBob leans towards having a #1 workhorse goalie. Let’s hope 1 of them grabs a hold of the starter spot. As they say in the NFL, if you have 2 QBs you have none.

Truth that. Off the top of my head I can’t really think of any famous goaltending duos….

I am a goalie Dad/Coach and I enjoy having 2 goalies on our teams as I feel it makes my son compete more. Each goalie is different. Some compete with themselves, some need to compete against others. That’s at the youth level though.

End of an era. Walker a 3 year captain and his linemate for most of that time, Blake McLaughlin. Very solid players. I get their limitations, both were smaller forwards, but they played hard and well with lots of speed. Lots of chemistry between them. After their final game Thursday, it was interesting that Sammy Walker went into the locker room almost right away, Blake and Ben Brinkman stayed out on the ice for a long time.

But, the wonderful thing about college hockey is that end of an era as it is, that is put in the memory and pictures on the walls of Mariucci, and another era begins.

I think the bummer with the COVID year and the transfer portal is some of the seniors don’t get the farewell they deserve. From all schools. Any kid that sticks around for 4 years should be recognized. I get the game and things have changed but those kids gave 4 years of their hockey career, wanted or not, to an institution, teammates, coaches and all others involved.

No doubt. Close played much too well to even consider that the other goalies will compete for the starting position. I think there are a few things he can work on to improve his skill, the most important being controlling and moving the puck from behind the net.

But a returning goalie with a 1.95 GAA, .925 save percentage and NCAA Regional Championship shutout should be seen as a huge asset for the team.

I guess Gopher fans probably fear what seems to be a consistent pattern of our high end goalies coming back for the extra year and seeing their games decline a step. LaFontaine, Mat Robson. Adam Wilcox. Alex Kangas.

Close had a pretty strong Sv% - saying he "can't steal a game" feels like semantics. .

Now that said it remains to be seen if he can maintain those results far better than Laffer did not. Mr. Green

I hope Boynton gets to play. He's one of the biggest cheerleaders on the team. His excitement after the UMass OT winner was notable. I like Close and I like the feel good story, but if he's that good and was a walk-on from Canada then a whole lot of people really messed up their goalie recruiting.

Glad I wasn’t the only one who noticed. He always looked like an interested and engaged player the entire year. Always engaged in the bench and like a kid during celebrations. Would love nothing more than for him to be a contributing member of the goalie rotation.

Info on Knies and a great look behind the scenes of his year with the Gophers. Interesting note is that someone from Toronto touches base with Matthew once or twice a month to go over film.

Elliotte Friedman says Toronto is making a huge push to sign Ben Meyers. I will give them Meyers if they let Knies come back for 1 more year :)

As much as I’d like to see Meyers on the Wild, I’d take that trade in a heartbeat too.

Wow! I like him even more. Even if he does end end up signing the fact he was not swayed by the instant gratification of playing his first NHL game at The X is damn mature.

Reading some of the comments from maple leaf fans about Knies on Twitter is fantastic. So many of them take delusional fan base syndrome to even lower depths of stupidity than I thought possible.

Yes. I believe Faber is eligible as well. If I read the rules correctly anyone who was eligible for the tournament this January is still eligible for the tournament in August despite their current age. However teams are not committed to their exact same rosters from a few months ago. It looks like they will go through the whole process all over again.

The only player that matters in my house to my 4 yr. old is Jackson LaCombe. He tossed her a hockey puck at the start of the season at a game and now she is his #1 fan. When I watched the Gophers all season on TV she would look for #2 on the ice and yell "there he is". And she named two of her new stuffed bears Big Jackson and Little Jackson. We reached out to the "U" in Feb. asking if there is any way we can pay for or get something like a signed picture or puck from Jackson for her birthday. Kudos to the "U", Jackson and Brian Deutsch. Brain got back to us with an email of the video of Jackson wishing Abs a happy birthday and a game prior to her bday, he met up with my wife and I at a game and gave us a signed flag by Jackson. It made her birthday and all I can do is wish and pray Jackson comes back for one more year... LoL!!!
