Bob said in a pregame maybe a month ago, when it’s going good it’s good but when it’s not it’s bad and you hear about it deservingly so. Something to that effect.

“Good pace, a lot of north and south, or it could be east and west, I’m not sure but either way…” Wooger

You’d decline a job at MN if the person interviewing you put a condition/restriction on you, the salary was not an increase (Augie is a private school with money), or you did not come away impressed with the resources you were going to be given.

If rabs has truly turned it down, that is a massive indictment on Coyle and if the list that’s come out is the list (and there’s not more interviews coming after seasons finish, etc) that’s also a massive indictment

Coyle is effing this up big time. Why not even interview Barr?

Sucks if true about Raboin.  What’s everyone’s knock on Larson?  I thought he was a big part of UMD’s success?  For being a “National” search, it really seems like Coyle has a short list.

trend line at SCSU after bobs recruits are gone is poor. His best year is the Covid year teams were pulling out of games and postseasons

I’m sorry but Grant potulny on the interview list does nothing for my confidence in getting back to normal.

Especially not with the rumored assistants all being over the age of 50. What the f*** are we doing?

to be fair I think he’s capable of doing it in a resource rich environment, the 2022-23 Huskies team showed that he could build a championship contender without Bob’s recruits, they were 5 in the pairwise with a spate of injuries and spent some weeks at #1, #2, and #3.

Remember that year’s Huskies put up a good fight in the regional final against our loaded team, and they posted a shutout against us during the regular season which no other team managed to do. If they didn’t drop a random tie against Miami or something I can’t remember, they’d probably have been a 1 seed that year. And that was fully Larson’s team, although they did also have Cruikshank after his stint at the U.

I heard through the rumor mill that the other names mentioned on here like, Darby, Cashman and Barr didn’t even get a call.

This “national coach search”, which has been done with less than a half tank gas is a complete joke and is an embarrassment to Coyle.

darby doesn’t have his bachelor’s degree, which is a hard administrative requirement that can’t really be bypassed. Cashman’s team is a lock for the tourney; I just hope they wait out some seasons ending…

Who knows how reliable this is. But if it’s true, and I could see it being true with Coyle busy in Missouri watching participation trophy basketball… I might explode.

Having watched his Youth Hockey Hub interview it was very clear he has a good thing going in SF.  He has an opportunity to keep building that program his way.  He seemed very invested there.  And his family likes it.  SF seems like a nice small city that does not have the big city issues Mpls St Paul’s has. For someone from small town MN, not entirely surprising.

I don’t doubt he has something nice going in Sioux Falls but turning down the Minnesota job? And don’t even start with the “maybe Minnesota isn’t as big a program as it used to be” stuff. This is one of, if not THE most attractive job in college hockey.

it’s also the highest pressure job in the country, and if Coyle didn’t make a very compelling pitch where he didn’t commit to providing what it takes to win at the highest level… then it would make a bit more sense for Rabs to decline.

I gave Coyle credit for being decisive a few days ago, but he’s gotta follow through and not leave things half baked here.

As for the Gopher Hockey Coach… I'm not believing anything until I see an official statement from Coyle.

Too many question marks. And too many I heard from my second cousin's boyfriend's girlfriend's boyfriend's cousins aunt's boyfriend's cousin that this is gonna be our coach.

there’s a concept of a plan somewhere in there. This is definitely something you should do from Missouri watching games that don’t matter nor even remotely benefit from your presence being there

This is literally the dumbest take. It can be a fact that it was time for a coaching change, and also a fact that Coyle is botching the hell out of hiring the next coach.

If this didn’t so negatively impact my own mental health, it would almost be funny hearing the people who said we would definitely upgrade moving on.

If Coyle forced his hand and we end up with some bullshit like we’re hearing, even more pathetic seeing so many damn sources saying Bob was well aware of what needed to be done this offseason

I am not saying anything negative about the job at the U but I do get a kick about people being incredulous about the notion that a person would not take the job, or that Coyle is at fault because a qualified candidate may have declined an offer.  There are any number of reasons someone might not want a job that others perceive to be a great job.

If they're low balling him their hires then sure, I get it. That would point to either Coyle being an idiot or greater problems with the U and its athletic department as a whole.

In theory it should offer a big pay raise over the competition and while I understand there's more pressure to perform here, it's not like smaller programs can't fire their coaches.

Can someone dig up the discussions around when Coyle first hired Bob? I don’t recall it being nearly this messy of a search.

With the previous hires, Motzko, Fleck, and Medved , it was rumored that Coyle had narrowed down his decision almost before interviews. If it is true that he half assed attempts with Raboin and Muzzerall, then he is horrible at his job. You have to seriously interview everyone and who knows, someone may surprise you or make you think differently.

If Coyle is truly this incompetent then he'll be gone soon and the next coach probably won't be around long either. I think most people here were under the assumption that the guy isn't completely braindead but I guess we'll find out soon.

As far as Raboin, assuming he has actually said "no"  I can think of a few reasons.  Topping the list is the social media mob jumping in halfway through ONE bad season (and yes, it was bad, no question at all) saying that Bob needed to be fired.  Raboin is in a fairly nice city, with way less pressure, good backing from the school (plus there are assorted reasons that a person may want to live in South Dakota vs Minnesota... not getting into a political discussion here, though)

Bob is out.  It’s what many wanted.  Did anyone think beyond that??!  Clearly Coyle didn’t.

I don’t think a lot of others did either.  🤷‍♀️

Well he is 64, next hire was coming no matter what, this is just part of the work in progress and learning what Coyle has for hiring skills.

It kind of sounds like you're blaming people who supported a coaching change for the current circumstances. As I said before, it can be a fact that it was time for a change, and also a fact that it is being terribly mishandled.

Am I wrong here but it has only been a few days since it was announced that Motzko was let go.  It's still very early in this process.  Let it play out a few more days.  Personally, I would have given Motzko one more year.  But, hockey is still being played so there are other potential coaches that may be on the secondary list.  I'm not panicking....yet.

Not blaming.  Just pointing out that we can’t be begging for something and then be mad at the consequences.
I agree change was needed.  As I mentioned earlier, I feel things may have been rushed without having a solid plan.  And here we are.

Nobody wanted Larson in the first place, no clue why we would be remiss about that.  Potulny did the same thing Raboin did, took a job for a chance to come back here.

If it's Grant along with the connections he has from the back to backs.....I'm down with that.  Get an elite GM and let's get to work.

I am not saying anything negative about the job at the U but I do get a kick about people being incredulous about the notion that a person would not take the job, or that Coyle is at fault because a qualified candidate may have declined an offer.  There are any number of reasons someone might not want a job that others perceive to be a great job.

Personally, I doubt any rumor that Garrett Raboin has said no to being considered for the head coach of the University of Minnesota hockey program. If he is content coaching in a backwater, then he isn't the right guy for a program that a good coach can make into a national title contender.

I also think all of the rumors about the coaching search are rather premature.   While the current season is still ongoing it is almost impossible to make a real move.  Pat Ferschweiler would almost certainly not be ready to make any move at the moment.   I doubt that the U can get him as he seems to be secure in his spot but then money can talk and I am sure the U of MN budget for head ice coach is >>>>  Western Michigan's or at least it should be.

Nobody wanted Larson in the first place, no clue why we would be remiss about that.

Less about Larson as a particular candidate; moreso that it’d be extremely concerning if our AD decided to move on from Bob but then can’t get either of his #1 or #2 picks for the job. That would mean the problem lies with Coyle and is much worse than previously thought.

Bob is out.  It’s what many wanted.  Did anyone think beyond that??!  Clearly Coyle didn’t.

I don’t think a lot of others did either.  🤷‍♀️

There’s many good coaches out there that are capable of being successful as the Gophers next HC. It’s Coyles job to determine who fits best going forward. It’s one of the top jobs in college hockey. Everyone needs to calm down. This is a FUN, entertaining message board, but what we as RUBE fans think has little or nothing to do with who ultimately gets hired. tBob had a nice 8 year run & is a personable guy & a good coach. But he was smart enough to realize at his advanced age and after a BRUTAL season it was time for a change. So we all just have to wait & see who Coyle selects, might take a few days, may take a week or two. But it’s his call, and whoever is named the new HC will be embraced by most Gopher fans.

This “national coach search”, which has been done with less than a half tank gas is a complete joke and is an embarrassment to Coyle.

Haha that one made me laugh.

Sometimes , it's not always about the prestige or the money. Sertich had no interest in coming to the Gophers and neither did Sandelin. Raboin is just getting started and probably has a sweet little deal there in Sioux Falls. As a small town guy, he might even favor that over Minnesota. So it goes.

In the new new college hockey landscape,  the notion of an "M" man is probably antiquated and should be put to rest. Find the best man for the job and get after it.

There's a reason Motzko got axed early. They need to retain players, save recruits, get new recruits, and lure season ticket holders back before the re-up date. The risk here is that if Coyle comes limping back with the last guy on his list, there will be too many negative consequences.

Yeah he was even in the top 5 that's a problem, I agree.

Asking a legitimate question, seeing Larson's name in the mix.

When Lucia was hired in 1999, who else was a candidate?

It kind of sounds like you're blaming people who supported a coaching change for the current circumstances. As I said before, it can be a fact that it was time for a change, and also a fact that it is being terribly mishandled.

Not blaming.  Just pointing out that we can’t be begging for something and then be mad at the consequences.
I agree change was needed.  As I mentioned earlier, I feel things may have been rushed without having a solid plan.  And here we are.

And how is that our fault? lmfao
