Matthew Wood's rookie lap. If you listen closely, you can hear Nashville play some of his Gopher goal calls in the background.

Chaz Lucius retires. Diagnosed with EDS.

All the drama aside, that just sucks.

real sad to hear. Bummer for him but the injuries would’ve stacked up so glad it was found now so he can act on it for his long term health

For those not medically inclined, EDS = Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.

It is a disorder of connective tissue, which often causes hyper flexible joints, being prone to being injured more easily and more stretchy skin.  Definitely not something conducive to playing a sport where strength and stability are important.

That does stink.  Wonder if they’ll check the younger one.

Chaz's situation is what makes the gophers hockey alumni group so important. I hope that group reaches out to Chaz and helps him out in any way possible.

I would bet that Chaz will end up working for the family business and will likely have no connections to the alumni. I get the impression that mom and pop don’t have any desire to be connected to the hockey program anymore and in that family, what mom and dad say goes.

And Chaz will never be hurting for money.

It's not necessarily about money but emotional support since he lost what has defined him.  Hockey has been his life since he was 4 or 5 and now it's gone and losing this could have a negative impact on him.  Others, when done with hockey, have ended up down a dark path.  Whether it's former teammates and/or friends from MN, wi, or wherever he's played I hope these guys help as they can.  Best of luck to him, it's a sad story.

Knies has 29 goals this season. For comparison his teammate named Auston Matthews has 30 goals this season.

I can confirm you are correct. There was never any loyalty to anything other than dad’s desire to see his kids in the nhl

Do they only have 7 players on that squad?

From the same spot Ovechkin scores most of his goals. 🤔 Ovi he is coming for your record. 😀

because its fun and the insanity of Ovi, Jimmy would need to (given he'll be 21 next year and needs 897 more goals to pass him)....

score 35 goals/year for the next 25 seasons and break the record in his 26th season at age 46

score 40 goals/year for the next 23 seasons and break the record a 43

score 45 goals/year for the next 20 seasons to break the record at 40

score 50 goals/year for the next 18 seasons to break the record at 38

is still so insane to think of what ovi has done in this day and age and with the strikes, his health, and his consistency in scoring. Matthews would have a chance if he could stay healthy but that's been a chronic issue for him already but even if he averages 35 for another 13 years (when he'd be 41), he's still short.

and with how Ovi looks, I'm sure he's going to be trucking along next year as well. This isn't to say you were being serious, but more just a bit of raving about how prolific Ovi has been for so long

While I agree the Snuggy goal was impressive, as well as Ovi's accomplishments, here are some fun facts:

If you took away all of Gretzky's goals, he would still be the NHL all time points leader with a 240 point lead over Ovi's total scoring.

Without goals, Gretzky would still be 42 total points ahead of the 2nd leading points scorer, Jaromir Jagr.

36% of Ovi's goals have come on the PP; 23% of Gretzky's did.

Less than 1% of Ovi's goals were SH; 8% of Gretzky's were.

I am not trying to diminish Ovi's accomplishments in any way, just pointing out how great Gretzky was.  And yes, I get it was a different time with different equipment and conditioning, etc., but hard to argue that Gretzky isn't still The Great One.

@joegopher agreed on both. Impossible to debate eras but still the GOAT IMO due to the sheer insanity of the numbers relative to his peers

I guess may be a little part of why he wanted to move on with graduating and moving on to a new phase of life.

agreed. Fave Kurth memory: the first goal in the 2023 title game was all him creating something out of nothing, setting up J. Mitts with the wraparound feed tapped into a wide open net. Made Qpac's #1 d-man look silly 3x in one split-second sequence.

1-0 after 1 that night was probably the happiest hockey-related memory I can recall (I'm 25y/o).

His entry level contract has expired, so he’s a restricted free agent. Toronto will offer him a nice contract extension since they won’t be re-upping with Marner & Tavares 7 yr contract has expired.

If I understand the NHL rule correctly, he is a restricted free agent until he has 7 years in NHL (just completed his 3rd) or is 27 years old (he's 22).  So any team can offer him a contract, but Toronto has the ability to match that deal.  So, unless someone comes in with a ridiculous offer, Toronto will be able to retain him for at least another 4 years.  With the increased cap next year as well as them being free of the Marner and Tavares contracts, they should be able to offer him a pretty penny to stay.
