Depends on how many goals the refs take away from us. The refs have clearly made it so we can't go to the net and have to play soft trying to score from the outside which leads to over passing, no screens, deflections, rebound goals (aka no greasy goals).
Look at my avatar. Potulny won the national championship going to the net. With the way things are getting called now all the defender has to do in a scramble situation like that is bump the offensive player into his goalie resulting in a no goal.

I met my buddy out for drinks a few months ago. We are former coworkers and he used to give me crap if I held a door open for him by saying "we're not dating."Belt bags? As in fanny-packs?
Well, he shows up to lunch with a bag he wears over his shoulder. And I couldn't help but ask "what's with the murse?"
This weekend will be a true test if the Gophers are on a roll or if they still will lay an egg & lose a game they should have won.
Their consistency has hurt them. Let's hope they can play the full 60 both nights and into tournament play.

If we get a goal(s) waived off this weekend the Mariucci crowd might explode (circa 2022 Big Ten Championship game). I certainly hope a repeat of that doesn't happen but after what has happened the past two weekends especially last Saturday against the Badgers I have a feeling the crowd isn't going be that understanding if it happens again.

I have to say, as long as it doesn’t hurt the Gophers, I actually kind of enjoy the reaction of the crowd when a call doesn’t go our way. It’s kind of hilarious to see eight to ten thousand people collectively lose their minds. Again, the major caveat is that this doesn’t hurt the Gophers in the long run and they still win the game.

Projecting the Big 10 tournament it’s looking likely that the Gophers will end up at 3rd and Penn State will end up 6th (yes things can still change but that’s barring anything crazy). This weekend might be a preview of the first round of the Big 10 tournament.

Bob called shootouts his teams Bermuda Triangle. They practice it. Just need to win in 3x3.
He said his team has shown maturity in games. Likes the way they are playing. It is like playoff hockey.
Need to keep PSU's shots from the outside. They like to send a forward out of the zone early. Gophers need to keep one of the Gophers forwards connected to the defense to prevent PSU breakouts.
They have 1 small injury they are dealing with. Did not say who it is. May give team some extra days off to keep legs fresh.

Not directly related to this next game here, but these shootouts are lost opportunities for sure. Bob calls it gimmick hockey and I see his point. But the fact is that losing shootouts is costing this team an opportunity to establish itself as the prohibitive 3rd place team in the Big Ten and I think is also costing the team better pairwise/poll standings as well. My concern is (and maybe it won't matter), but I'm wondering if come Big Ten playoff or NCAA tournament time if games are also determined by shootouts. I'm hoping not at this point. I like out chances in overtime, but 5 minutes of overtime play goes by quick. The gophers dominated Wisconsin for the 5 minute OT period on Saturday and still couldn't sneak one past their goalie. Come tourney time, much of the same tight defense in OT can be expected as well.

Too bad OT isn't 3x3 for 10 minutes. This team would do well. I'm not a big fan of the shootout. Seems like a 10 minute OT would facilitate just as quick a result (win/loss) in roughly the same total game time anyway. If two teams were still tied with 3x3 hockey at that point...seems like an obvious tie situation anyway.

I think they have lost 5 pts due to OT? Arguably 1-2 W worth if they are 50/50. However on the flip side there is no Pairwise implication so we’ll see if there is any impact in the BIG conference tournament seeding.

Someone sort of alluded to this earlier somewhere but I think the team goes as the senior line goes. Every line can score but when those guys play with fire and show some jump and drive everything seems different. They are the leadership on the front end and need to play like it. They have taken their share of criticism (deserved at times, at times not) but overall the leaders SHOULD set the tone. I hope Nelson getting TWICE called for goalie interference (one maybe and one ridiculous) doesn't make him hesitant to drive. That is the bread and butter of that line. I hope if fires them UP!
