Bob needs to go.  He was better than Lucia, but time for some young blood to breathe some life into this program!

That statement re tBob is ridiculous. tBob is a good coach. The problem a number of fans have on GPL…is the inability to concede that there are teams out there BETTER than the Gophers in any given year. Last year, they had arguably the best team & most years they’re top 10. I get so bored of their losers lament (that they lose) because of “lack of effort” that’s arrogance…which is clearly misplaced regarding a team that hasn’t hoisted a NC trophy in going on 21 yrs.

On the flip side, and to your point, watch Brodzinski’s post game.  One comment that alarmed me was his reference to “if coach doesn’t come to the rink we work on D the entire time with coach Miller.”

Would be really interested to get thoughts from more knowledgeable people.  Is this normal for the U or college hockey in general?  Can’t believe there are practices where coach isn’t on the ice.

Noticed this also. What in the world does that mean? That Bob isn’t showing up to practice? I was confused by the whole thing.

Putting Moore (your fastest skater) with Nevers and Brodzinski makes zero sense.

It's pretty common in college hockey for coaches to be absent from practices or even assistant coaches from games to recruit.

One of the few positives to me is for as bad as they played they only gave up two goals (could have been a lot worse) and not only did they get one late, they were threatening to tie it up in the dying seconds. That’s not to sugarcoat that game. The performance was pretty poor. But, like many, I still see a path to success if they just play their game.

Michigan just missed the net a lot on some good chances, I wouldn’t say the defense was particularly great though we’ve seen worse.

Yup, there were several times they were in close and for whatever reason just plain missed.

Right and I also tend to think of defense from a bigger picture perspective of how they’re contributing to the breakout ie retrieving pucks and making passes out of their own zone. Michigan had a pretty good plan for this to spread the puck out along the back wall if they got pressured, kinda like a reverse breakout to alleviate pressure. The gophers had a lot of just poor passes out of the back end where the puck was elevated or a forward was looking one way and got the pass on the other side etc., it was really ugly at times and resulted in a lot of turnovers. They also seemed more passive formation-wise and were on their heels a lot. Somehow this only lead to two goals against that counted.

Our defense does not handle forecheck pressure well.  Wisconsin showed it early in the year (Hastings has consistently done this) and Michigan just copied that.  It's glaring behind the net when we have two defenseman below the goal line and they only have one forward pressuring.  It should be an easy pass, but we seem to get caught up with a bad pass or panic.  Then when the play gets stalled, the defenseman gets stuck alone as the winger doesn't go down to the corner to help and the other defenseman is worried about covering in front.  It's a 2x1 situation where the offensive team wins the puck battle a lot of the time.  If we have a cleaner breakout, it alleviates pressure and the forecheck does not become so strong.

I’m giving Jimmy a lot of leeway since last two games he got penalties and he might have been told to turn it down a notch.  He was in the running for the H Baker but not anymore.  Who knows what’s in his head.  He has the talent, hope he ignores the background noise and turns it on for the remainder of the season.  Never been a fan of post game interviews, if they win it doesn’t matter what they say, if they lose their comments get way too much attention.

Jimmy could be fighting a nagging injury, you never know for sure. I will give him the benefit of the doubt.

We certainly have a goaltender that can steal us a game, which may be needed. A huge plus for this team.

Thats what I’m starting to wonder about too, cause it’s so night and day different from earlier in the season. I know a GPLer said they saw him on video wearing a brace on his wrist, so that could be something.

Still tho, don’t need a healthy wrist to back check!

Well if that is the case the week off might be beneficial for him.  The things I see as weak or lacking in his game are not related to his shooting.  I realize a wrist can impact more than shooting but being tough in the corners and responsible defensively by bending your knees and skating hard are not really related to a minor wrist injury.  Neither is poor decision making when entering the zone and consistently turning the puck over.  The 100 ft game does not play in the NHL (yes I realize he is very young and very talented.  He just doesn't seem to be at that level yet)
