And now, back to the original call, waved off for Goalie Interference.
What a mess. How they called the first one good when you couldn't see the puck on the replay, I don't get. Yeah, you "know" where the puck was under the skate, but you can't see it, so, shouldn't have been called a good goal.
i do wonder if they’ve got an in net cam they use like the nhl that may have made it more obvious?
lol fink celebrating as eberle gloves it

On challenges aren’t they only allowed to evaluate the issue in question? (i.e only allowed to say if the puck crossed the net on the first challenge and only allowed to look at goalie interference for the second). If they come out of the first challenge and say there was goalie interference then is it fair to lose the challenge of the puck crossing the line…
It is silly they can’t find a way to just eval it all at once. 🤷♀️

His collegiate career would probably be such a tragi-comedy if he had followed thru on his original commitment to Wisco.

Yes this gets repeated ad nauseum on every goal-line review; I think the actual standard is silly. If you know w/ virtual 100% certainty that there is nowhere else the puck can be, other than “fully over the goal line”, then call it a goal. In so many other aspects of hockey we are A-OK with inferring where the puck went, with less than 100% certainty.
I'd be perfectly good with that, if that were the rule all the time. It seems to be hit or miss on whether they go with that method or not.And now, back to the original call, waved off for Goalie Interference.

Watched BC tonight and feels like they’re feeling much the same way gopher fans are. About to head to 2-4-1 barring a huge comeback here in the 3rd against NE
UMD 4 Fighting Who 3 😎
Aloha!
Denver lost to Alaska Anchorage and is now 3-3-1
BU lost to Maine and is now 3-4-1
BC lost to NE and is now 2-4-1
Lots of coaches going to be fired if this trend continues... 😎

If BC is actually bad then that makes that series look even worse lol.

think it’s more you’re seeing even highly talented freshmen struggle with what college hockey has become.
At the same time Miami has excelled (relative to their past decade+) with an extremely young squad. College hockey is in major flux I guess.

ferris state rpi and lindenwood
reality was last night
St. Cloud is playing much better this year. Austin Burnevik played really good against Western Michigan in their split last weekend. Most likely he will be a Hobey award nominee again this season.
A couple big injury announcements today in the B1G:
- Henry Mews (Mich Dman) out for the season. Tough break. He was first pair, top PP unit for the Wolverines
- Aiden Fink out long term for PSU. Gadowsky says he’ll be back sometime this season but not soon.
I do not remember the last time the Gophers were not part of the top 20 in ranking

Aloha!
Agree on your point. But personally, I don't believe they even deserve any votes at all. That was awfully generous of the voters to offer them an olive branch. I'd rather see them drop out entirely and give them the motivation to EARN a top 20 ranking in the polls. This team will improve...but I personally still believe they have not hit bottom yet. Let's hope by December they start playing with more grit and determination and hungry for that puck.
Jeez, behind Dartmouth and Bentley.
How has Cornell only played 2 games, when a number of teams have already played 10
Ivy League teams are more limited in how many games they can play in a year, so they always start late.

Hense the joke why Cornell receives #1 votes when they are 0-0 and everyone else has played 4-6 games.
78 PIM later and MSU completes the sweep over PSU
Penn State with one goal on the weekend. Maybe loading up on Canadians isn't as great as some people think it is.

I wouldn’t go that route when you see the number msu also has 😅
Michigan State has 6 Canadians
Penn State has 10 Canadians
Michigan State sweeps Penn State out scoring them 7-1.
Less is more!!!! The key to success is clearly having less Canadians. 😉
Max Plante, the nation's leading scorer, scored in overtime to lift the Bulldogs to a 3-2 victory over St. Cloud State. He's the third fastest Bulldog to reach 50 career points, doing it in 25 games. The Bulldogs swept St Cloud State to reach 10-2 on the season.

You forgot the most interesting factoid from that stat: the person he beat was Brett Hull.

Wodon with actually a pretty fair take on McKenna so far. Also a good general roundup of some early stuff across college hockey
Between the Lines: McKenna Scrutiny Comes With the Territory : College Hockey News
Apparently things got chippy during Wiscy / Michigan game. Michigan chose roll out the bush league stuff as Wisconsin housed them on Saturday.
I find it shocking that this happen as we all know Naurato's teams are known for their discipline and he doesn't tolerate any poor behavior during games...
OK, OK, OK --- I admit I couldn't keep a straight fact while typing that last sentence.

For reference for people, at 19:46 of the 3rd, there were 122 minutes of penalties handed out with each team getting 5 misconducts and 6 2 minute minors on WI with 5 on Michigan
Cumulatively in the game there were 38 penalties for 167 minutes
well given now we've moved far enough into the year, couple random insights thoughts elsewhere in college hockey.
For the record, Gopher opponents this year are a combined 31-15-3 when not playing the Gophers. Schedule was every bit as strong as advertised and that's with a team I'll mention a bit below also showing early struggles.
Hockey East really having a tough start to the year intra-conference wise. Last year went 80-35-4. This year off to a 28-20-5 start. Now they'll inflate this as they draw more AHA and ECAC teams, but they're well sub .500 vs the B10 (3-6-1) and NCHC 4-6) after being near even (5-6, 11-11) last year. Maine has a big series with DU in January, but otherwise you have one game each from Merrimack and BC vs Notre Dame as your only other opportunities to make up ground so they're going to be hurting come tourney time if they drop any of those games. HE struggles have been pretty widespread, but some were a little more surprising than others with BU being 5-5-1 having lost 5/6 prior to sweeping Merrimack this last weekend. BC just got back to .500 sweeping Vermont but they've really been struggling to score (2.7g/g, 39th in the country). Could be a very interesting bubble season for HE, similar to what we saw with the NCHC last year where you just don't have enough outside SOR to get your bubble teams in without cannibalizing the others.
Big early series in the CCHA between BSU and MTU, the 2 early conference leaders. I'd expect Augustana (good work by Raboin there; road win vs UMD and swept ASU) and Mankato (split at Omaha and pair of ties at WI) will also be there come year end, but if either of the above 2 teams sweeps this weekend it will be a good head start for a conference heading into its 3rd/4th (depending on team) weekend of conference play.
The ECAC looks like a jumbled mess. I'd expect its Quinny but they've also dropped a game vs Alaska and Merrimack already so who knows.
In the NCHC, kudos to a team that really has surprised me this year in UMD. Aside from an early hiccup game they got goalied in by Augustana (outshot the Vikings 40-16 but lost 4-0 with 2 ENs), things have gone about as best as they could've hoped. Top line looks great and rest of team plays sound defensive hockey (part of why they're giving up 1.8 goals/game with 7/12 games of 1 or fewer. Other surprises but in a bad way, WMU off to a real slow start and ASU has basically shit all over themselves trying to sneak in to the postseason for the first time since 19-20 by getting swept by PSU and Augustana and starting 1-2-1 in the NCHC with a split vs Miami and loss and tie vs CC. Their next 8 games have the ability to be the story being written early as they go @UND, vs DU, vs OSU, @UMD. Miami has also been a pleasant suprise in just not being god awful this year, but wow for an easy slate of Ferris State, RPI, and Lindenwood before splitting with ASU early. In the quirk of scheduling, they only get UND, Denver, and UMD for one series this year (at UND and Denver, home vs UMD), so they record could somehow end up looking really good but the end result be staying at home (think PSU in years past).
And in what looks to be the best conference again (national titles notwithstanding), ND looks like the worst team. WI has been a bit of a surprise in that they're actually executing Hastings style, though they did this 2 years ago as well starting 9-1 and finishing the first half 16-4 and getting up to 19-4-1 early in the 2nd half only to finish 7-8-1 down the stretch and get bounced in the 1st round of the NCAA tournament. Think this team looks a lot more like the good Hastings teams in terms of depth of scoring but they're also rolling a Freshman goalie. Michigan looks like the same super talented scoring juggernaut with horrible discipline and suspect defense. They'll go as far as go based on their D locking in and losing Mews for the year is going hurt them quite a bit. MSU looks the clear class of the conference and PSU is going to be carried by their returners much more so than Gavin McKenna, who looks like he's going to struggle with the physicality of B10 hockey (though he'll hurt you on the PP; has 4 of 14 points 5v5. Will be curious how they hold up with Fink out as MSU looked head and shoulders better than them last week
Don't know how much my early FF picks have changed, but feel best about MSU being there and would be pretty surprised if there's not at least one other B10 team there with them. I presume BU will figure it out more but they may also fall flat on their face unless they figure out their chemistry issues and start playing defense.
we all know Naurato's teams are known for their discipline and he doesn't tolerate any poor behavior
Naurato is flat-out unqualified for that job. He only got it because Mel left while the Michigan athletic dept was busy dealing with the much bigger scandal unfolding in their football program at the time; he’s been bailed out by Michigan’s brand and proximity doing all his recruitment for him.
frankly I find it disgraceful and embarrassing that a peer program like Michigan has cared so little about their head coach’s antics and clear incompetence.

i mean it seems like he's rebuilt it pretty well this year basically choosing to blow up the roster. I think he's a bleh coach and would've been better served being an assistant and recruiter, but the results on the ice have been 2 FFs in 3 years. If he'd miss the NCAAs this year, I think he was toast. they took 14 PIM/g in Mel's last year as well. Part of that is the style of run and gun and physical play but yes they also coach them that way. TBH, I think MI is perfectly fine being goony and playing ST heavy games and I would be too given the talent on their team and converting at a near 35% clip on the PP, but you'll get hit with games like game 2 against WI where you give up 3 PPG and get beat because of it (they were 0/5 and WI was 3/7 in that game). He seems more like a guy who's there to recruit, not an X and O guy, but that's just what I see in how he acts and talks than anything inside.
For those of you that have been in Madison before The guy that does the 1-2 we want more chant has passed away at the age of 81. He started attending games back in 1968. Talked to him a few times out in Madison, he was a super loyal fan. They lost a good one
Bummer. Certainly couldn’t miss him in that white sweater.
I wanted to hate him. Then we sat right behind him and his wife one year, by chance and dammit if he wasn't the nicest guy ever. He will be missed.
They still have the "Hey! Hey! Hey!" guy.
Michigan up 3-0 after 1.
McKenna is also -3 after 1.
Michigan up 3-0 after 1.
McKenna is also -3 after 1.
I still don’t get people running the generational talent stuff on him. Great offensive player and vision but he’s so far from being that level right now.
Quinnipiac puts a 6-2 beat down on BU (no empty netters) the shots on goal were 42-16 after two periods.

BU has what, 19 NHL draft picks? Bad year for everyone
BU's coach should have got more CHL players.
The Bulldogs get shut out at home by Omaha.
The Sue loses at home to Arizona State who was 3-7-1 coming into the game.
The BADgers blow a two goal 3rd period lead at home although they do end up winning 6-5 in OT (3 on 3 goal) but lose the series to Ohio State 4 points to 2 points.
So UMD is 11-3 now. With (likely) the highest scoring line in college hockey. 🤠The Bulldogs get shut out at home by Omaha.
Not quite correct. It was a PPG in OT. OSU took an interference penalty (reviewed for a major, but just interference) with 13.6 seconds left in the 3rd. The BADgers scored with about 8 seconds left on the PowerplayThe BADgers blow a two goal 3rd period lead at home although they do end up winning 6-5 in OT (3 on 3 goal) but lose the series to Ohio State 4 points to 2 points.
this is part of what makes it so wild he's a -7 on the year (and that is only with 1 empty netter against). he's only scored 4 points at even strength this year outside of empty netters (so less than Javon Moore and Mason Moe). all the more reason we have to stay out of the box this weekend.
