I was recently informed by a GPLer that I'm related to Airey
All-CHN First Team
F Ryan Leonard, So., Boston College
F Isaac Howard, Jr., Michigan State
F Alex Bump, So., Western Michigan
D Zeev Buium, So., Denver
D Sam Rinzel, So., Minnesota
G Jacob Fowler, So., Boston College
I remember when these teams were almost all seniors. College hockey sure gas changed. These are great players, make no mistake, but it feel different.

they'll lose a lot but also bring in a bunch of talent. Nightengale has put a roster together similar to Carle. We'll see if he can finally figure out how to win in the NCAA tourney.

to me it should be Buium or Howard and I'd lean Buium
That feels about right to me this year. I knew a while back that Howard and Leonard would be 2, was just waiting to figure out the 3rd, and Buium makes sense. The Hobey hat trick--

B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
I would guess that Leonard is the favorite, but Buium is by far the best player I've seen in a college hockey game this season.
I think I'd have to agree, on both fronts. Buium is a great player, but Ryan has the East Coast bias that most definitely exists in Hobey voting on his side (not that he isn't worthy of being in the hat-trick, like I'd said, I had him and Howard as my two for-sures in the hat trick ahead of time)I would guess that Leonard is the favorite, but Buium is by far the best player I've seen in a college hockey game this season.

Denver -135 vs. Western +105
PSU +120 vs. BU -154
Keep your stick on the ice...
Has a Hobey Baker Finalist or winner not been present for the award ceremony? Leonard and the Caps play Thu and Sat, with the ceremony being Friday.

College hockey is not a big sports book for Vegas… Though I’m surprised with the money line for Western & BU. I would’ve thought they would’ve been switched. Though PSU might be a steal.

du is a bigger national name and people will see they won last year
the bu line is the same deal and bu is getting run into the ground by espn as the best team left
is interesting to me they have both the nchc teams as shortest title odds
Minnesota State goalie Eli Pulver to Wisconsin. How many times can Hastings hit that honey hole?
I am the official Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!
https://twitter.com/mattwellens/status/1909779431272366477 Something is rotten up North. Two consecutive brutal seasons are taking a toll. And a transfer from UMD who is a finalist for the Hobey to boot!
For all those headed to St. Louis or are there already thank you for the representation! Remember the only thing to go on the ice is whatever you’re pouring😁🍻

Always one of the best weekends of the year. It is fun catching up with other teams fans that have become friends and is a tradition now. My only wish for the weekend.. NO OVERTIME GAMES... (it cuts into the drinking time)

In the era of players leaving in the transfer portal, Jackson also said he'll prioritize recruiting players who have a passion for the program."In this day and age, more than ever, we have to build relationships with guys, but also find guys who have ties to the program," he said. "In our (2016) national championship, what did we have? Six guys who were from within an hour of our program? You have to find good players, but if they're not willing to sacrifice or buy into our system, it doesn't matter.
"You want guys that are dying to play here and have loyalty to the program."
This certainly is the challenge of college hockey in a nutshell. I think seeing all the guys sign early to get started on their pro contracts tells you what you need to know. I know Schlossman also wrote this week about the portal and how it's crazy how many players are signing their contracts and they are no where near ready to play in the NHL. I talked with one contact about how challening the move the AHL can be and they said, 'it's a jungle once you make the leap and it's not easy to survive.'
Last year, there were 38 early departures, this season we're at 37 (two freshmen, 12 sophomores and 23 juniors.) The early departure list includes 15 free agent signings -- I think those opportunities are sometimes different because the offer can disappear more easily if the player turns it down versus a team who owns your draft rights. Also, Minnesota leads the way with the nation's most early departures at six with Northeastern the next school with four.
Schlossman didn't call out any Gophers on the early signing surprise list, but did have Providence freshman forward Trevor Connelly signing after a four goal season, Northeastern sophomore goaltender Cameron Whitehead signing after a .909 save percentage season, UConn freshman goalie Callum Tung who started just 15 games this year and UMass sophomore forward Dans Locmelis signing after just scoring eight goals this year.
"You want guys that are dying to play here and have loyalty to the program."
This. This is what I want to see.
@eric-vegoe this is a bit challenging in some ways. College hockey is also pushing guys to come in older and older each year, which pushes back further and further starting life, cashing paychecks, etc. and that’s a big thing to then push it back another 2 years if you’re already 20-21 when you come in

That is one of the reasons I am in favor of mostly MN players on the team, vs a team of temporary mercenaries that a few posters support. Not only is it more fun to watch guys you've watched come up through HS and can take pride in the State of Hockey, but I think you also get a few more guys like Snuggy and Faber who stay a year longer to try to win a NC for their team they always followed than jump ship first chance. And that only helps your team. (Not that an outsider can't sometimes become that loyal to team, like a Vanek.)

When has the roster ever not been "mostly MN players"?
Howard coming back next year. Unless tb trades him then we’ll see. Would almost expect he’s going to give them the finger next offseason
It was .911, the goalie WAR metric used on CHN which includes shot location data has him in the top 10 NCAA goalies. IDK what kind of offer he got but NE isn't exactly a powerhouse that's likely to elevate his numbers in year 3 so I kinda get it.Northeastern sophomore goaltender Cameron Whitehead signing after a .909 save percentage season,

He’ll get traded and sign sometime this summer. We’ve all seen this movie before.

At the end of the day as fans of the college game, with the portal, now money, and early departures, the true definition of what it’s really all about when everything else is out of our control, you’re dead on! I’m disappointed in the new changes in the game but it won’t change me. Hell I still wear my wcha logo apparel just because it’s an honor and feel lucky to have been a part of that era. Its always about what you make of it and having the U of M as our team every year is a blessing!😁

Off the top of my head I can think of half a dozen marriages that came from people meeting other fans at tailgating/tournaments/etc in the college hockey fanbase. When you see the same people for years at those events...
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

We didn't meet at a tailgate but my first date with the long suffering Mrs. GE was a Gopher hockey game in 1986.

We were part of the same group of friends in undergrad but a couple years later reconnected at a Gopher Hockey game and went out to Sally’s (when it was still the real Sally’s) after - and our first “date” was the final five.
Sadly the Gophers were not in it, but this was back when you could bring in a backpack…a few notebooks and a bottle of rum hidden inside. 😂
Most of my best friends are folks I’ve met through Gopher hockey, and we continue to make new friends every year. That’s why it’s such a big part of our lives. I love the hockey but it’s the friendships that make it so much fun.

Never. As long as I've been watching. But a couple people always post they don't care where players are from if getting the best, especially since portal started. Just offering my opinion counter to that sentiment.

I've seen the same, but I've never got the impression they're from people that want to ever get away from Minnesotans dominating the roster.
Watching game 1 Denver Western M I do not think the Gophers could keep up with either team they both Play so fast and great defense
Aloha!
Denver is getting worked so far, Davis is doing his best to keep them in it.
Buium hurt on what looked like a knee on knee/slew foot behind the net as he turned. He’s clearly not right
Watching game 1 Denver Western M I do not think the Gophers could keep up with either team they both Play so fast and great defense
Defense maybe but the Gophers were fast all year and their transition game was one of their strengths. Not that it matters 😒
Denver with 9 shots on goal? Yikes.
Feels like WMU isn’t far enough ahead.
….and there it is
Just came to post that WMU is putting on a clinic and just like that DU scores on their 12th SOG to n pull within 1. 🤣
Denver goalie has kept them in it and when they finally get a look they get a stupid lucky deflection after a whiffed shot.
Sometimes I think hockey is such a dumb sport.
WMU also missed a wide open net early.
Wow
I don't think that will be goalie interference.
Colby is wrong though about whether or not the puck was covered.
You knew it would get to butthole puckering time for wmu when they didn’t take advantage
Buium rushed the puck & a few seconds after putting a shot on goal Denver ties it 2-2 with 2:39 remaining in 3rd period. The Champs are still the Champs until someone beats them!Denver goalie has kept them in it and when they finally get a look they get a stupid lucky deflection after a whiffed shot.

I’ve seen this movie before, a couple years ago…
DU passing up shots like they are all future Gophers.
