Fun year for the GPL Podcast. We had some new guests. Moved to live video streaming. That lead to OT growing in a HUGE way. Though, that has lead to a lot of missed sleep for both [mention]Vegoe[/mention] and myself.

Loved the video "upgrade." Made it more interactive, more personal. I thought I was a night owl of sorts, but the OTs blew me away. Would love to see the video-casts continue!

Watching the BTP podcast and I wonder if the Rat's curtains were originally put up by his grandparents.

Hoping to up our game by moving from a Zoom stream to a place called Stream Yard for the next podcast. This give us much more control over the production of the entire broadcast and also allows us to schedule our streams ahead of time. So I will be giving it a try next week when we have Pat Micheletti on the show!

We will have simultaneous streams on our YouTube channel as well as our Facebook page. Comments from either will show up in the streaming software we use and we can even bring those comments up on our broadcast. This part may be tricky for those that use the chat on YouTube. I am not sure if the Live Chat will be coming through to our stream OR if you need to leave actual comments. TBD I guess!

But I am very looking forward to using this new software!

I've been a guest on streams a few times using StreamYard, and it works really well. The live chat will show up in StreamYard for you (and your guests), but Facebook comments will just show "Facebook user" as the name posting it. Comments in the YouTube stream chat will show up in StreamYard with the YT name normally.

In StreamYard, the host can select the message on the chat, and it brings it up on screen on the stream. You'll need to either click on another message to move to show that one, or click on the original message again to stop showing it to everyone.

Also, the tagging of names that happens in YT chat won't be highlighted in StreamYard, so when we do an @Gopher Puck Live to get your attention, that won't come through to StreamYard as a highlight (the post itself will)

It will be a very cool addition. The fact that we can embed a chat comment right in to the broadcast is outstanding. It will be basic at first, but I am hoping to get better and better as I learn how to do it.

Maybe it was just me, but I couldn't hear Nate Wells on the last podcast.

For YT streams with multiple people on it, StreamYard is definitely the way to go. Being able to bring up comments in chat on the screen is definitely a huge bonus. Also, if you ever have multiple guests on that aren't there the whole time, adding them in, moving them out of the main broadcast/etc is really easy.

Only downside I think is that the last I checked, it's limited to 720 resolution, but for a stream like this, that's not a big deal.

He had mic issues. They tried getting it fixed early, but his mic gain was really low.

I increased his volume as best as I could on the audio podcast, so it sounds better there.

I am going to see if I can do a scheduled broadcast with the new service from my phone tonight for the post game media scrum with the coach and players. Internet is iffy down there, but I will try. I will get it all setup once I am down at the arena tonight. So go subscribe to the YouTube channel to be notified of the stream. And just HOPE the internet works while I am down in the Mariucci dungeon.

So we are switching to a new platform to broadcast/record the Podcast.

The last year we had been using Zoom to do most of it, but we found a new platform that makes broadcasting so much easier called Stream Yard. So tonight will be the first time using the platform. It allows us to schedule and broadcast both on YouTube and Facebook at the same time. Then all comments and/or chat from both will show up in our stream. We can even take those comments and add them to the broadcast. So I am thinking that instead of relying on Twitter for questions, we will rely on getting those questions from both of the YouTube and Facebook streams.

I remember a ritual Schierhorn had; before each period or after a break before play resumed he would grab his water bottle, take a drink, spit it out, take a drink, spit it out, take another drink, then squirt his face. Every time.

37 made one of the most interesting points I can remember in any of the podcasts.

It benefits MN schools like the Gophers to bring in MN kids because the in state tuition is so much cheaper hence lower use of the 18 scholarships which are apparently then calculated at full out of state tuition cost.

All MN (or mostly MN + elite out of staters) dream lives on! All the non goalies committed right now are Minnesotan.

I’m not one to talk with my interior decorating skills or lack there of, but Schierhorn needs to put some stuff on his walls. The room he was in was white on white on white.

Too be honest... It doesn't bother me at all. Sometimes you need to move to a different room in order to not bother others you may be living with to do a podcast. And it is very likely that he doesn't work from home much. Compare that to me... I have been working from home since March of 2020. Over that time I have taken time to slowly improve the background for work meetings. (and podcasts) Just looking back on the season premiere last season (below) when we started doing video, my background was really bad. The lighting bad. Since then is it very much improved.

We have not... TBH, We are pretty darn loaded on guests for the rest of the first half of the season. We only have 1 show that will have no guests. Otherwise we are fully booked. And I need a guestless show from time to time to keep my sanity.

Dumb question but I’m not seeing the podcast on Spotify. Is this episode not going on that platform? Couldn’t listen on Wednesday

This is an error by Spotify.

All of the podcasts sites are linked to a single file that gets updated each week. All the other sites are showing the 200th show, which means that the file was updated properly. So it is probably a case where Spotify has not updated their feed.

My only suggestion is to either wait until Spotify refreshes their podcast list. Try another podcasting app. Or just listen on GPL.

I just found a typo in the RSS feed that Spotify was choking on [mention]YoungEagle[/mention]. The other services did just fine with the typo, but Spotify did not. I corrected it and hopefully #200 will show up soon, #201 is already there.
