Chris Finch now has the 2nd most playoff victories as a MN T-wolves Coach.

Also, the key to MN winning games? Protesters. 😉

IMHO, a huge win for a couple of reasons. First and most obvious, the series is now tied 2-2. The Wolves were not going to be down 3-1 and then take the final three games of the series. Second, Towns stepped up his game, stayed out of foul trouble and avoided referee grumbling. He was clearly involved and focused. Third and maybe a bit of a stretch on my part: I feel that winning last night and guaranteeing a game 6 back at Target Center is a big part of the reinvention of this franchise. For the season as a whole, but especially the past few weeks, the fans have become invested in and excited about the Wolves. It's been a really good season, but to win the play-in game against the Clippers, win game #1 in Memphis and then crash and burn in four straight following that would have been very disappointing. Now they go back to Memphis after a couple days off and see what they can bring in game #5. I'm not a massive basketball fan, but it's been fun following this team and I'm glad to see it continue.

I don't really follow the bouncyball, but have friends that do. The Wolves lack of maturity and experience prevented this series from being 3-1 in the Wolves' favor. They can play with the top teams when it comes down to the nitty-gritty. This is not your normal 2-7 seed matchup.

In reality, Golden State is probably the second best team in the West. They were savaged by injuries all season (Klay and Draymond missed a comined 90 games, IIRC, and Curry missed 15+). Memphis is very good, but a healthy Suns and healthy Warriors team are both better. Booker getting hurt for the Suns could ruin their season in this series though.

Side note: if you are a western suburb sports fan this Friday, 394 east will be a mess. Wild have a home game along with the Wolves game 6.

Celtics complete the sweep of the Nets - out of all the first round matchups, I didn't expect that would end in a sweep in favor of Boston. They've been very impressive.

Wolves win tonight... Wolves in 6.

Wolves lose tonight... Griz in 7.

For the bits and pieces I've seen of the Wolves this years.  Towns is overrated.  He needs to stop being a drama queen and just play basketball.  He's an excellent ball player.  Though he let's his emotions get to him and gets into foul trouble a lot.

Memphis players in danger of letting the fans allow them to be distracted by the refs. Wolves players would do well to go in the opposite direction. Befriending the refs and acting like calls don’t bother you can frustrate the other team even more.

Both these teams are so sloppy…bad decisions, bad fundamentals, bad shots. They win possessions with individual skill.

Memphis 3-20 on 3s and shooting 55% from the line. The reason this is close: offensive rebounds Memphis 10 Wolves 1

Can someone explain why that Ja Morant dunk wasn’t an offensive foul? The Wolves player was standing there, had solid position, and was jumped right into. I’m not totally familiar with bouncy ball rules so I assume it’s because it looked cool and they let it go?

Turned it on for the 4th quarter and it was exactly what I expected. A true star beating a wannabe star and a young gun that isn't quite there yet.

Before hitting the tying 3 with 2.7 seconds left Edwards missed 4 open shots down the stretch and then blew the steal attempt that allowed Morant to win it. Teachable moments?

Basically yes, because it looked cool would be the only reason. Beasley was there planted before Ja took his jump. The contact wasn't devastating because Ja kept his left arm tucked into his side rather than extending it. But it still could have absolutely been called an offensive foul.

I know the end of BBall games are long... But are NBA games generally 2hr 30min for a 48 min game? It's like 10:40 and this Wolves game started around 8 or 8:10 right?

Wolves big guns simply folded with the game on the line (pretty much during this entire series) ☝️You gotta learn to walk before you can run! That will do it.

Playoff commercials add in some additional time to it.

In the regular season the average nationally televised game was 2:18 and local was 2:13 this year.

Towns is going to get a lot of flack for this series, more than he probably deserves. He wasn't great but he wasn't the reason the team didn't advance.

DeAngelo Russell was absolutely horrific the entire series. Shot 32% from the field and only averaged 13ppg. His inability to do anything effectively allowed Memphis to trap KAT far more easily than they should have been able to.

That, coupled with Finch insisting on putting him on the court when the offense was in a groove when McLaughlin was on the court instead of DLo, was a killer.

The other big issue: Memphis outrebounded the Wolves almost 2:1 in the series (IIRC it was like 44:23 or 45:23). Ja Morant had more rebounds/game than anyone on the Wolves not named Towns. That's ridiculous. It seemed like every time the Wolves got a defensive stop when they needed one, Memphis one or two or three offensive rebounds and ended up scoring on the possession.

I was talking to a buddy of mine and we agreed the Wolves were they better team for about 70-75% of the series. But to win in the playoffs you can't play 75% of the game.

Overall it's hard to argue that the season was not a big success, despite the sting of losing this series. They are an extremely young team that just got a taste of what postseason basketball is. Hopefully they take this experience and learn from it. From their post-game comments that I've heard and read, they're not going to take this series loss lightly.

Agree with all this. Also, just execute better in the half court set down the stretch. Get good shots and they win this series 4-1.

I was texting with two of my roommates from college last night during the Wild game and eventually the Wolves games. I told them you seriously need your head examined if you actually pay to go to a NBA game. And I should almost as well for watching this garbage on tv.

I saw the stripes call a foul on the Wolves that you would not call in a junior high game. And the very next play they did not call a foul on the Griz and it would be a penalty in hockey. And this BS goes on all game. If it was consistent across the board it might be more tolerable. The stripes are in over their head and are clueless. And fans allow this BS. And it doesn’t teach anyone the game of basketball. It just teaches the younger generation to emulate this BS.

Officiating in this series was absolutely horrible to the point that it was laughable. They definitely have some changes to make to the way the game is called.

TRUE…but officiating had LITTLE to do with why they lost the series. They are simply too inexperienced (at this point) soft when it comes to rebounding & the players simply aren’t “clutch” down the stretch. That sequence (last few minutes) of game 6 where KAT missed a jumper, next possession Ant missed a runner & next possession KAT missed a 3 sealed the loss. All 3 shots were taken subsequent to little or no ball movement to open up a better shot, and while the shots they took were still make able…they missed all three, end of game, end of season. Overall, a successful season though & hopefully the players LEARN from this playoff series loss.

The hyperbole over officiating is tired. Some refs are better than others, some games are easier to officiate than others. The problem is when they are inconsistent and the players don’t know where the line is. A game between 2 good teams is much easier to officiate. For example today’s Milwaukee/Boston game was pretty clean. The Wolves and Memphis were both playing out of control for a lot of the games which makes it way harder for the refs. Just crying about everything being “the worst ever” is boomer energy no one needs.

Were this Year 2 for this roster basically choking a series away it would make for big concerns. That is not to say they don't have work to do on learning to hold leads, rebounding better and playing occasional defense, but there is reason for optimism at the moment.

Steph missed a wide open 3 late ? but then Klay drills one, then Klay clanks 2 FT with 7 seconds remaining  after Steph made a huge block/steal defending Morant. And after both FT’s were missed by Klay, the ball goes out of bounds resulting in a bizarre jump ball at center court. Memphis gets the tip & calls timeout with 4 seconds left & Morant misses a left handed runner (at the buzzer) Warriors win by one point. This has makings of an entertaining series…and I don’t even like ? that much, but this was very compelling!

I won't post the twitter video here because it's kinda graphic, but the foul Dillon Brooks had on Gary Payton II tonight in the Memphis-Golden State game was absolutely freaking ridiculous. Payton will be out for the season (his elbow is fractured at minimum, they are doing an MRI tomorrow to determine if there was any ligament damage). Hopefully Brooks is too. Absolutely ridiculous.

Memphis won the game because Ja Morant had 47pts (15 of 31 shooting), 8 rebounds and 8 assists. He was absolutely dominant.

In Game 1 of the NBA Finals Golden State are up by 12 going to the 4th quarter and then they get outscored by 24 points in the 4th quarter at home to lose by 12.

A case of the Timberwolves curse due to them bringing in (via trade) a former Timberwolve to their team?

Or will Andrew Wiggins be a key player in winning the championship like Eddie Rosario was for the Atlanta Braves?

Wiggins had 20 points on 8 of 15 shooting.

I saw at one point Boston had made 9 of their 11 shots in the 4th quarter. Pretty incredible run.

Wow, the Lynx have literally hit bottom in the WNBA. I hadn’t realized they had sunk so low.

Sylvia Fowles is out indefinitely with a "cartilage" injury and Napheesa Collier had her baby last month and is likely out for the season as well. Fowles is arguably the best center in WNBA history and Collier was one of the best defensive players in the league the last handful of seasons. I saw a tweet the other day that the Lynx had 3 of the top 11 players in the WNBA in win-shares last season and none of them are playing right now.

They were a team built around defense for the last decade and now their best defensive players are all unavailable and they aren't able to outscore teams nearly as often in a shootout.

Just saw a stat that Wiggins had 2 games in his Timberwolves career where he had 10+ rebounds. He has 6 games in this years playoffs where he has 10+.

GSW win 4th title in 8 years. Steve Kerr now has 5 titles as a player and 4 titles as a coach.

Wow, the Lynx have literally hit bottom in the WNBA. I hadn’t realized they had sunk so low.

Sylvia Fowles is out indefinitely with a “cartilage” injury and Napheesa Collier had her baby last month and is likely out for the season as well. Fowles is arguably the best center in WNBA history and Collier was one of the best defensive players in the league the last handful of seasons. I saw a tweet the other day that the Lynx had 3 of the top 11 players in the WNBA in win-shares last season and none of them are playing right now.

They were a team built around defense for the last decade and now their best defensive players are all unavailable and they aren’t able to outscore teams nearly as often in a shootout.

Add Lindsay retiring and Maya basically retiring and they’ve lost a lot the past few years

Good for Wiggins! He had the ability to play defense, but being around champions rubbed off on him & he’s become a much more complete, competitive player. And now he’s an NBA champion (too). Unfortunately the player the Wolves received in the trade for Wiggins, DLo has essentially turned into a disappointment as a Twolve. Typical Twolve sh-tty luck!

Say what you will about Draymond Green, he is a champion. Postgame they asked him “you had some up and downs this series, what did you learn about yourself”. His answer: “nothing” and he basically said I already knew I could do this, I’ve done it before.
