Suns 75 Jazz 75….at the half
Keep your stick on the ice...
The Wolves were down by 14 points on the road tonight with 8 minutes left but closed the game on a 27-12 run winning on a Karl Anthony Towns jumper with 5 seconds left.
The Wolves won by 17 points tonight. They have the best record in the Western Conference and are a half game behind Boston for the best record overall.

Wait for it...

Jaden McDaniels did roll his ankle last night in the first quarter and is out "week to week" per Chris Finch.
Not ideal to lose him but the team should have enough depth to cover for him while he's out.
Another great win for the Wolves! 13-4 and leading the Western Conference.
Even I, a non-NBA fan, watched the final 5 minutes tonight. An impressive win. No participation ribbon for trying, they won that game.
3-1 in this in-season tournament and not good enough to advance. I don't know if that matters, these in season tournaments are odd to me, but nice showing for sure.
Are people even watching the in season. What is the point of it?

The games the Wolves played were all essentially standard regular season games. The ones that counted toward "In-season tournament" were the ones against teams in their random draw pool. IIRC there were 6 random draw pools, winner of each pool + 2 wildcards made the in-season tournament.
Near as I can tell, the tournament is basically just to get something somewhat "meaningful" early in the season because all the games for the knockout stage of the bracket are nationally televised. So it's more about $$ than anything else.
I think the winning team gets some money for the players.
The games for teams that advance are for "funsies" and don't mean anything other than TV gets some money and maybe the winning team?
So odd. Did the lengthen the season by however many games for those that advance? Shorten the regular season? You can tell I pay zero attention to BBall.
I had a bunch of these same questions about a week ago. THIS ARTICLE spells things out pretty well.
I believe all of the games are played within the 82-game schedule.
Typically, the NBA sends out a full 82-game schedule in mid-August. This year, though, the league only sent 80 games, with a gap in the schedule from Dec. 3-10. Each team's final two regular-season games will be determined by how the in-season tournament plays out.
The 22 teams that fail to qualify for the knockout rounds of the in-season tournament will have their final two games scheduled -- one at home and one on the road -- on Dec. 6 and 8 against other teams eliminated in the group stage.
How crazy the Timberwolves are tied for the best record in the league and it is not after a first game of the season win. 17-5 is crazy for a team that usually relies on the lottery and choosing the wrong player almost every time.

Quoting so I can look back and figure out what their record was after you jinxed them

I never got why there was so much hate for this. Having the “final four” games in Vegas is a great idea and the players on the winning team get 500K. There was a player for the Lakers who increased his salary for the year by 46% cause they won. Soccer does this kind of thing and it works, why wouldn’t it work for the NBA. People just want something to complain about and then clam up when it ends up working.

The wild thing is the Wolves looked very average after KAT came back at the end of last year and played decent in their series against Denver but nothing to show they would be one of the best teams in the league out of the gate. In particular Gobert looks like a completely different player than last year.
Wow. Wolves beat Dallas by 18 bizarro world at this point

Gobert looks like the DPOY again, he and Towns seem to have figured out how to play offense together, and the team is playing very good team defense. This bodes well for the postseason.
Maybe the most impressive part is the Wolves have the best record in the league despite Ant and Jaden both missing time with injury (Ant 3, Jaden 10).
You could make the argument the Wolves gave the Nuggets their toughest playoff series last year (outside of game 1 where Denver won by like 30, they had a lead late in the 4th in game 2 and were neck and neck in game 3, won game 4 and they had a look to tie at the buzzer in game 5, all without Jaden) and they look improved this year. Barring a catastrophic injury this team could be tough in the postseason.

So glad I did not jinx them last night but I was thinking I had watching the first Quarter.
The Wolves win by 18 points today. They are now 19-5 (11-1 at home, 8-4 on the road) which is best in the Western Conference by 3 games.

Outstanding comeback win tonight for the Wolves on the road against Miami.
I would argue this is the best major 4 sports team Minnesota has had in a long time.
Sadly that's probably true.

There’s been a couple of Vikings teams.

Not in a LONG time. Last year? I don't count that. The one score games (that they are losing this year) shows that they were not dominant.

Last year was somewhat of a fluke... though I would say the 2009 and 2017 Vikings are better teams overall since 2004 when the Timberpuppies made the Western Conference Finals then this current Wolves team.

I agree on the 2017 Vikings. I guess I count 6 years as being a long time lol

Still depressing that that the dumpster fire of a franchise like the Wolves is having the best season of all 4 in the last 5.

1981 Northstars my favorite team, going into Boston for the playoffs after the NHL record for Penalties in a game in in February of 1981 where they had never won a game before. Something like 862 penalty time.Bobby Smith gets tossed out of the game for fighting

This is exceptionally impressive.
We must be in a multi-verse. How else can you explain a 20-5 Timberpuppies record? Usually around this time we are discussing how our luck sucks in the draft and maybe this is our year to get a #1 pick behind close doors.
My friend who is a mega-fan (only has missed 3 home games in the history of the Wolves) caught a quote from KAT, which I'll paraphrase:
I realized I am not the sun on this team. I am a planet.
In other words, he's matured and realized what his role is, and what he has to do to help the team.

That's quite the feat... only 3 games. I know a Wild fan, when I worked game days for the Wild that hadn't missed a game through 2019-2020 season. I haven't worked game days since that season, so I don't know if she still hasn't missed a game.

He missed 3 this year when he was on vacation.

Embiid at 18 free throws. Next closest? ANT at 8. WTF.

Embiid gets superstar treatment and knows it so he flops around a lot.
2x ANT...that's what really got me, given the hype that ANT has gotten in the past 6-8 months about "holy sh* this guy is a star"
Note: not a Wolves fan, but I want to keep track so I know what I am talking about, and what they are talking about, when with Wolves fans. 😉

Road win over Sacramento. All the Wolves do is win.
Wow.

I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
Ant with your Sportscenter #1 play of the day.
Since the 1 team in the West is still rarely on national and Ballys blows haven’t seen the Wolves much this year, great game tonight:
Memphis played well but their luck ran out in the 4th as the Wolves steanrollled them.
KAT whined about zero calls
Conely is clutch and exactly what the Wolves need
Gobert is an absolutely beast defensively and obviously inspires the rest of the team to play D, this has to be the best Wovles team defensively ever.
Ant with 2 points in the first half and then explodes in the second half.
Reid is a Minnesota treasure
also have very good depth.
surreal to watch
This team is for real. They are a treat to watch. Conley is the man. Ant has the killer instinct. Rudy is a monster. KAT having a quietly great season. Jaden a lockdown defender. NAZZZ Reid.
I heard about this play this morning. Not sure what's more impressive, ANT's pass-dunk or Kevin Harlen finds a way to use "swashbuckling" during the play-by-play.

The Wolves players on the bench liked that one just a little bit.
