Up 1-0 against Mexico, after they went down to 10 men. The second half we've looked really good.

Tyler Adams with his first international goal! I've got very high hopes for that kid. He looks like a player.

The future just looks so bright right now. Especially up front. Tyler Adams, Tim Weah, and Christian Pulisic could make up a fearsome trio.

Would be nice to develop a true striker now, too.

Had to laugh at the encounter between the taller American and very short player from Mexico.

Don't forget about Julian Green. He came on late in the first half and completely changed the tone of the game. He's not the savior we all wanted him to be, but he can be very good for us.

Yep, that's true. Could be a super-sub option going forward, for sure. Still only what, 23?

I'm hoping that Miazga and CCV will lock down their spots and be our CB pairing. Although John Broke 2 might have something to say about that.

USMNT and England from Wembley on ESPN2 right now.

We've got a real solid lineup playing. Pulisic's return to the national team! Really wish I could watch this one live.

3-0 loss. Not ideal, but the team is going to have to take some of these lumps as they grow together.

First and foremost, USA Soccer needs to hire a manager.

Gregg Berhalter is your new USMNT manager.

Not a splash signing, but he seems to be a solid manager. At least now we can finally start moving forward and building an identity for this squad. Everything under Sarachan was so vanilla.

I have zero problem with it. The first tiebreaker is goal differential.

My wife not having any idea of what happened is not pissed. She and I watched (and cheered) the Chastain shot together while in Vegas but if she heard this result would likely cut me off.

They range in price from 9€ for a cheap seat at a group match up to 84€ for a good seat at the Final. At least that's what the list prices were. No idea what the resale market is like.

I have zero problem with scoring that many goals as well.

That said, "Why are they celebrating like that after 10 goals? It's totally disrespectful and makes us look classless, right?" ~ my 9yo daughter

And, yes, I think most would be saying that to a men's side as well. My thoughts go back to Germany pounding Brazil 7-1. For the last 3 or so goals, when the outcome was easily discernible, the German players would bow their heads after scoring a goal. There is something to be said about winning with class.

I have no problem with celebrating goals. To some extent. Doing choreographed celebrations when you're up by that much is bound to rub people the wrong way. You could show your excitement in much more muted celebrations.

Do some fist pumps and gutteral screams of excitement. Get pumped up! You just scored a goal in the damn World Cup, that's awesome! There's just no need to do some big huge celebration when you're beating someone by 8+ goals. There's being excited, and then there's being a dick.

The whole "would you be telling MEN to not celebrate?!" thing is dumb. Of course we would. I criticized high school boys (STA) for doing their choreographed crowd participation celebrations while absolutely annihilating a bunch of poor Single A schools.

The Chilean goal keeper is putting on a clinic.

This is one of about four amazing saves she's made in the second half:

Did the US women get really advantageous calls against Spain yesterday, or was it a legit win? I'm not qualified to judge plus I screwed up the recording of the match.

Both US goals were scored via penalty, the last one was a pretty soft penalty for the overall physical style of play the entire game. However, the Spain goal was a gift from our goalkeeper and a very suspect defense yesterday. I don't think the US got extremely advantageous calls, but the game sure could have gone the other way pretty easily.

I only saw the replay of the goals but the calls looked fine by the book, I'm not sure I would've called the second one but it wasn't egregious either.

You put your cleats up into someone’s shins in the penalty area, it’s a penalty. No matter how soft it is. It was a legit win. Spain’s game plan yesterday was the beat up the US. The ref let them get away with it too.

Agreed. The NHL wouldn't have let many of those calls go yesterday.

I thought the first half was pretty solid. France had the possession, but didn't really have many dangerous chances. I thought we looked much more dangerous on the counter than they did in possession.

The second half hour away from them a bit, which I think you cab expect from a very good team in a World Cup while they're playing at home.

Survive and advance!

I'll admit to not being much of a soccer fan, but I've been watching all the U.S. games so far and have been entertained. Just some random questions/comments:

> There are way too many fake injuries. The girls go down writhing in pain, grabbing their leg or knee and doing their best to sell a foul to the referee. Then when nothing is called they get right back in the play, often without the slightest limp. Soccer needs to do something to cut down on this nonsense, like maybe adding an embellishment or "diving" penalty when the player is obviously not hurt.

> There is not enough scoring. I'd like to see them do something with the offsides rule, maybe go to a "blue line" approach like hockey. Or something else that would create more offense. Going a whole half with just a couple of shots on net isn't enough.

> The penalty for unintentional hand balls (in the box or whatever it's called) is too harsh. It results in a goal against about 90% of the time.

> Why does the clock run backwards, with "extra time" added for stoppages? How much time is added and then left before the game actually ends is kind of a guess.

That said I am really enjoying the games, and very much hope the U.S. finds a way to win it. I get the feeling they'll have to play better to get the job done.

Unintentional hand balls? Not sure what that means but not every ball to hand contact in the box is a pen
