San Francisco with back to back 3 and outs on their first two possessions.
With how poor their defense is they will likely need to seriously consider going for it on the 4th down. They chose to punt this time on 4th and 1 at their own 44 yard line.
Lets see if their defense can get a stop or does playing for field possession start to become irrelevant if the 49ers defense has no answer for the Seattle running game?
SF seems to making stops when they NEED to, not when they WANT to.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Seattle misses a FG snapping their kicker's streak of 18 straight makes.
The Seahawks could be up 17-0 but instead it's still 7-0.
This is a great defensive game. That being said, look what happens when Sam D (also can refer to Kirk C) has a defense...

Purdy is hurting. Bad. He bent in a bad way.

That was the exclamation point on a dominant game by the Sea D. Looked like Purdy got the nail on his thumb ripped pretty badly. Had something similar a couple months ago and that is not fun for the first couple weeks. Couldn’t tell which hand but that’s bad if it’s his throwing hand. Couldn’t back it up I’m not at home.
Sam Darnold second QB in NFL history to win 14+ games back to back seasons
I dunno which hand, but that was a helluva D game by both teams. I, in the minority, LOVE those types of games. Have to fight for every yard, every point. It's wonderful. It wasn't bad offense, or weather related. It was punch-you-in-the-mouth defense.

The most underrated defensive skill is tackling, Sea was a very consistent tackling team in this game. Blowing up the ball carrier is way overrated. Wrap him up, go for the ball and wait for help.
Everyone wants to be on ESPN, you are correct. Text book tackle. Don't go for the highlights, go for the stats (if that makes sense).

And just helped lead his team to a first round bye coming out of the best division in football.
Two back to back years in the same position & this year gets the payoff. He is going to be around for a long time.
Nice work Kwesi.
I'd argue best division in football, from top to bottom. NFC North is damn tough.

Who is a contender in the North? No one.
The West has 3.
Not even comparable, not this year.
Cardinals. Both MN and DET can finish LAST at 9-8. Carolina or Tampa are going to host a playoff game at 8-9. To me, that is case closed. Again, my point is top to bottom. All teams as a whole as a division.

37.5 million for 25td’s and 14 picks and throwing over 300 yds twice (granted they can run the ball) isn’t exactly eye popping hall of fame numbers. The elite defense of Seattle has helped bail him out of some would’ve been losses and are a huge reason they are where they are. I like darnold but I still see the last two games as a Viking in him there at times and their fans do too. He’s a good fit and expensive, run heavy offense, top 2 defense in football and JSN. If he can take care of the football especially in the red zone I like Seattle this year in Feb..

You're right, the Seahawks and rams are probably the best teams in the league and SF is a top 10 team or so. Even with how bad the cardinals are it doesn’t really change the fact that the packers are banged up, Chicago is a fraud two seed that had an easy schedule, and the lions albeit getting a bit unlucky in close games with the toughest schedule in football suffered one of the highest man games lost in the league. I don’t think any of these teams beat the non-cardinals NFC west teams head to head right now.I'd argue best division in football, from top to bottom. NFC North is damn tough.

NFCN is prob second best though the chiefs division is pretty tough.

Darnold’s cap hit this year is 14 million. It’s funny how little people understand his contract.
And he’s fifth in the league in yards.
He also leads the league with 20 turnovers, 2 more than Gino smith. If Seattle wasn’t 14-3 the move to get him there would be talked about a lot more. He’s doing enough but under pressure he’s still indecisive and turning it over. Like I said I like him but also just fine with the Vikings decision to find out what they have now. The Seattle defense is why they’re 14-3 not because of Sam Darnold.

That team is stacked and is further proof that NFL games aren’t a tennis match between 2 QBs.
Last week Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears offense without their top WR put up 31 points on the San Francisco 49ers defense. Chicago scored 38 points but one of the TDs was a pick 6 by the Bears defense.
This week Sam Darnold and the Seattle Seahawks offense put up 13 points on the San Francisco 49ers defense.
Sam Darnold's contract is 3 years/105 million. For salary cap purposes Seattle back loaded his cap number as follows.
2025 13.4 million
2026 33.9 million
2027 44.9 million
2028 12.8 million
In 2028 he will counts almost 13 million against Seattle's salary cap while not under contract/free agent.
Geno Smith leads the NFL with 17 interceptions, Tua is 2nd with 15, and Sam Darnold is 3rd with 14.
Cam Ward leads the NFL with 7 lost fumbles and Sam Darnold is 2nd with 6 lost fumbles.
Colts just lost on a offensive fumble recovered by Houston and brought in to the endzone for a td.
and the Cowboys lost again to the Giants
Aloha!
The Seahawks offense is 11th in DVOA and the Vikings is 29th. Gotta imagine those numbers would be a wee bit different if they switched QBs 😉
Indianapolis Colts start the season 7-1 and 8-2 but end the season with 7 straight losses to finish 8-9.
The 7 game losing streak was 3 starts by Daniel Jones, 3 starts by Phillip Rivers, and 1 start by Riley Leonard.
Carolina, Tampa Bay, and Atlanta end up in a 3 way for the AFC south title at 8-9.
Carolina wins the three-way tiebreak because they swept Atlanta while Tampa Bay split with Atlanta and Carolina.

Yep the worst team this season was the 2-15 New York/Indianapolis Sauce Gardners the Sauce Gardners would be drafting first in the 2026 rookie draft 😉 but unfortunately, they traded the pick and another 1st pick to the New York Jets.

seattle also ranked near the top in run attempts/efficiency and Minnesota was near the bottom 25th. I agree though our qb play took a hit, a bigger step backwards than expected.

For sure, they’re deeper and better at every offensive position group. That said JJ had 12 interceptions and however many other turnovers in half the games as Darnold and when you include Wentz and Brosmer’s it’s almost certainly worse (too lazy to dig up the numbers). The Seahawks offense is 11th in DVOA and the Vikings is 29th. Idk long term whether signing Darnold would’ve been a problem because NFL contracts get restructured but he’s still relatively cheap in terms of QB contracts and I can’t imagine they’re going with JJ and Brosmer again next year, in which case you have to pay a QB.
Carolina wins its division at 8-9

JJ looks like a bust pick (a lot of people’s opinion including mine) hind sight is 20/20 what they do now will be interesting for sure. But I don’t blame the decision to go that direction on anyone because exactly what part of how Darnold ended 2024 was attractive and worth the investment? The Vikings rolled the dice and lost imo but I’m not in love with Sam Darnold’s play this year either😂. I’ll root for him to win it but against a good defense on 3rd and long I cringe with the rest of the Seattle fans.

Imo that was more on your offensive line but I didn’t watch that game very closely either. That said what’s done is done and the Vikings basically kicked the can down the road for a year, it’ll be interesting to see what they do next year. I gotta imagine a new GM is making that decision at the very least.JJ looks like a bust pick (a lot of people’s opinion including mine) hind sight is 20/20 what they do now will be interesting for sure. Dan Campbell is a great example of why coordinators exist. Great motivator, knows his stuff. Should call the plays? No. Of course some turnover and injuries on their lines really didn’t help.
Detroit wins at Chicago.
Everybody in the NFC north finishes over .500
Everybody in the NFC south finishes under .500
Let's reward every division with a home playoffs game no matter how crappy they are. 🤣
What happened with the Chiefs' QB Olakadun or whoever. They are on HIS backup now....

They need a full rebuild around Mahomes, IMO. The question is, will Reid be around for it? (his choice, obviously)

Nah, they played the toughest schedule in football and need to fill some holes which is a lot easier to do with a top 10 pick. They get a high end receiver or a guy next to Chris Jones and they’re back in business. Obviously it depends on what other moves they make and a million other things but that’s a decent starting point.
Yes, the Chiefs need to figure out a running game, their o-line was a mess and need to protect mahomes better, that rb love from Notre dame was a name that popped up.

Their O-line is also a priority though I’d think you don’t need to use a top 10 pick to address that. If Kelce retires that frees up cap space they could use in free agency and I assume KC would be an attractive destination for most FA’s.Yes, the Chiefs need to figure out a running game, their o-line was a mess and need to protect mahomes better, that rb love from Notre dame was a name that popped up.

I don’t see a rebuild as long as Reid and Mahomes are there. Imagine being a top 10 rated RB or WR and ending up there instead of somewhere like AZ or TN. Dream spot.
If they are going to try the plug'n'play method, they are in for a rude awakening. Bills tried to do it in the past. The Vikings are trying to do it now. Rarely works.
