On paper I give the Vikings A maybe even an A+ for their 2 picks last night. Pretty much got the 2 guys they wanted for very little to nothing. 3rd round picks and beyond are a dime a dozen. By Sunday morning they very well can have very similar picks to the ones they gave up for next year.

I agree.. I also think it’s COMICAL there are a handful of people saying “we gave up too
much to move up”…. probably mostly the same people who would have been okay giving up 3 1st round picks for McCarthy 3 days ago…. Any pick after the 3rd round is a complete flyer.

I agree. To me, it is all close to a wash when you consider how much people were assuming the Vikings would have to give up just to get high enough to grab McCarthy alone. The jury is obviously out on whether McCarthy will be a really good pick but I liked the moves.

I also feel people vastly overrate the value of mid to late round picks. Especially the draft "gurus" and their value charts. I am not saying those mid to late round guys never become valuable contributors but the "hit rate" on them as big time contributors (across the NFL) isn't nearly as high as some fans seem to think. A lot of those guys drafted in those rounds either don't make it after a few years or they end up as backups and special teams contributors. To me, those are the kinds of guys you can find in free agency.

I'd rather be more aggressive in the early rounds at the expense of some draft "depth" than to be trading back all the time like Spielman and ending up with a half a dozen picks in the 5th through 7th rounds.

I am not totally sold on Kwesi but I respect that he showed some guts and went after it. Plus, those compensatory picks we will get will soften the blow further.

Agreed. As I said at the time, if KOC thinks McCarthy can run his offense then I’m on board as long as they didn’t have to give up the 23rd pick or a 1 next year to move up. 2nd and 3rd round picks are important, beyond that it’s just moving around capital. After a day to think about it I’m also OK with what they gave up to get Turner. They did basically move up twice to get him but he has the potential to be a Khalil Mack/Bradley Chubb level disruptor that Flores can utilize like a hammer.

Both of these players come with risk but could also become perennial Pro Bowlers with this coaching staff.

From what I have heard/seen, this draft is gonna be boom or bust. Probably no in-between. The Vikes went for it. We'll see how it pans out.

Seems like there’s a lot of good players who went to good situations for them….except for the Bills

Don't get me started on that. There may be a plan, but that is a plan that I am not seeing.

Finished the roast tonight. Classic. "They call themselves 'The Mafia?' At least I have a ring they can kiss." And the running Gronk gag was hilarious.

Football related, but MN Myth arena team is done.
https://kstp.com/minnesota-sports/minnesota-myth-shutting-down-2-weeks-into-season/

Um, I think it would have helped to, you know, have some ads or publicity? I heard we got a team, but didn't see anything after that. I don't even know where they played the games...

The whole league is done.  They have no money.  I read one team was kicked out of their away game hotel because they couldn’t pay the bill.  So it’s not just the Myth.  😳

Hutton is delusional.  The coach quit because you didn’t pay him.  The team couldn’t travel because you couldn’t pay for tickets or hotel.  Don’t blame the league…which YOUR husband is the head!

This is the 2nd or 3rd chapter of the league. I had season tickets to the Pike, and frankly, I was surprised that first version (of the league, not the MN team) lasted that long. The MN team lasted one year.

Why do all of these wannabe leagues even try.  Only one was even mildly successful (the USFL) and their whole scheme was to get popular enough to merge.  No one cares about minor league NFL games...

So the Christmas games will be exclusively on Netflix. The Thursday games are on Amazon. There are games on Peacock and there is a Monday night game only on ESPN+.

I guess I'm old school and think the "national" games should be available on free TV and not have to pay to watch Thursday Night or Christmas Day football. These sports leagues are making it difficult for the fans to follow their league and my interest in sports is starting to decrease year as they continue to have their games on multiple streaming platforms.

@the-rube

Interesting the Vikings only have 2 prime time games. @ LA Rams on a Thursday Night and vs. the Bears on MNF. And that game could possibly be flexed. All the other games besides the game in London and @ Seattle are noon kickoffs.
I thought either the San Fran or Atlanta game would’ve been at 3 and one of the Packers games on Sunday Night.

Keep your stick on the ice...

I hear ya, I don’t see how it’s gonna get better. Needing “prime” for Thursday night football kinda opened the can right there and when the chiefs and dolphins big game was only available on peacock I thought here we go. Roger Goodell will beg to differ from the not able to watch theory. He thinks just the opposite, more coverage, more exposure, more nfl access into your household which is true, but he’s leaving out the fine print about having to buy it. In his interview on draft night he talked about this and he couldn’t be more excited about the way the nfl is growing just like it is. He drools dollar signs and speaks like he’s running for president over this. The NFL is so popular now it’s got fans where it wants them, you wanna watch so bad you’ll pay whatever it takes. Some do, it’s like everything else, priorities decide. To me I think it’s sad that it’s become a “pay to play” thing for football now. This rabbit isn’t chasing the dangling carrot.

He certainly has the physical ability and work ethic needed, but it's a very different skillset to jump into the NFL with.

I was going to Mankato and my campus materials management job included bringing bedding to their rooms during camp. We worked hand in hand with the custodians that would actually clean them. Only thing I remember about Brock was how incredibly wide he was. Truly shocking.

Kleinsasser was disgusting, by the way.

I was at a Gopher basketball game, sitting on an aisle above where the Zamboni 😎😂 comes out near the gopher bench. During the game Brock comes up out aisle with a bud and sits on a step next to me.

“Is this ok!”  He asked me

“ummmm….ahhhh…ummm it’s certainly ok with me.  Sir.”

The ushers seemed ok with it, too. 😂

I got the impression he was a genuinely good guy and if someone had said something he would not have hesitated to move.  The dude was a rock and wide, it was hard to stare at his neck.

I saw him once at Sally's maybe the year after he finished playing at the U.  He was so enormous that you had to stare in amazement.  He was intimidating when he was smiling.  His neck and shoulders were just so ridiculously huge.  Almost inhuman.

@bertogliat Yeah, I just saw the broad strokes. $88 in one lump sum doesn’t seem to make complete sense from a tax $ planning standpoint, but up front money in your pocket is never bad idea either.

Not sure why tax planning would come into this.  Any amount that someone is getting on this kind of contract is at the highest marginal rate already, may as well get it up front and invest it.  Even in just a money-market fund or something similar, you're at least getting some level of interest on it.

Ask Adrian Peterson what he'd do with $88MM then do the opposite.  🤣

I'm not saying he'll necessarily do the investing part properly, just that tax implications aren't really a thing here.  Cool
