We have a Blue Jays jersey in the house.(Encarnacion) It is the wife’s though so it very much does not fit.
I think the only Canadian bb jersey I'd want is a gray Expos Andre Dawson jersey. Might make an exception for a Pedro, b/c, well...PEDRO.

I’ve missed the start of the World Series for games in Toronto. Do Blue Jay fans sing ‘Oh Canada’ like any NHL Canadian team fans during the playoffs?!?!?!
The postseason Vlad Jr. is putting together is arguably the second best in the history of MLB and could potentially end up as the greatest of all time. Shohei is getting a lot of recognition, and rightfully so - he is absolutely ridiculous, but Vlad Jr. getting overshadowed is crazy.
Saw something on twitter that going into game 5 that of all players who have had 60+ plate appearances, only 2002 Barry Bonds has a higher wRC+ (weighted runs created) than Vlad does this postseason. Vlad's wRC+ going into game 5 was 248. It went up to 255 after his performance on Wednesday. Bonds was 259. His slash line is .415/.506/.831 in the playoffs.
For those unfamiliar, wRC+ designates the "league average" for the season at 100. Each point above or below 100 is 1% better or worse than league average. So currently this postseason, Vlad Jr. is 155% better than league average at creating runs. He has been historically great.
For those who aren't familiar with what wRC+ is that want a brief explanation:
Without diving too deep into it, the formula weighs the "runs created" based on the value each outcome has to creating runs - walks, singles, doubles, triples, and home runs each have an assigned value to run creation based on historical and seasonal analysis (I think walks are roughly .66 runs, singles are like .88 runs, doubles are 1.2, triples 1.8, and home runs 2.1). They essentially multiply the number of each stat by the value (so like 10 home runs*2.1, 10 doubles*1.2, etc) and divide the resulting number by total plate appearances. It then gets normalized based on league wide season statistics and adjusted for park factors (meaning guys who play in hitter friendly parks like Coors Field with the same exact stats as someone who plays in pitcher friendly parks will have slightly lower wRC+ because their stats are "inflated" by having an easier park to hit in). This stat in particular is designed to (mostly) accurately compare a player's current day performance to the performances of people in previous years/eras.

This article touches on why I always laughed when Joe Rube on TV broadcasts said hitters were striking out more because they only wanted to hit HRs.
Strikeouts are up because pitching has improved by leaps and bounds beyond hitting the last few years. Hitters know this and also know the best way to score runs as a result is to hit it over the fence. To do that, you need to swing hard. Swinging hard is going to lead to misses more often than swinging to "contact".
I'll also add this when it comes to the .300 average conversation - the data available for shifts (even though they've banned the full shift) probably takes away 2-3 hits per game (not just the infield shift but the outfielders too), and the level of athlete playing in the field right now is better than it has ever been too.
Is it time to lower the mound?

I counter that you have to take into account the AB ending up as a HR/K/BB. If you're not a power hitter, but can get on base FOR the power hitters, why wouldn't you do that? Ichiro COULD hit HRs, he preferred to just get on base. That was his thing. Set it up for your big boy to hit you in. MORE runs.

As much as we love it, that is also the problem. UNTIL a winning billionaire team wins a bunch in a row, the salary cap will never happen in baseball. Along with the players thinking a salary cap is an issue.

NBA fights pre mid 90s, were actual fights. Rick Mahorn, Charles Oakley, Bill Laimbeer, Dennis Rodman, Karl Malone would mop up anyone in the NBA for last 15 years.
IIRC, Bird and Dr J was a legendary encounter. Few documentations exist. I think there is one photo, and not much video.
