I'm disappointed in everyone. All these posts and no one brings up Portillo. Someone mentioned Napier, but Portillo is the one that really pissed everyone off by kicking off the net consistently.
Wasn't it him and Dobes?
It seems they all did it a fair amount! 😂
Gus needs a lengthy break.
What's your opinion about Pitlick's hit and match penalty on Chatfield?!?!?!
Tyler Pitlick ❌ Match Penalty ❌ Against Jalen Chatfield
I don't think it was a dirty hit. I think it was more of a bad result rather than a bad play. Pitlick stays low through the hit and doesn't jump up into Chatfield's face. He does get him in the head though, and that isn't something that anyone wants. At the same time, it's a physical sport and if you're going to skate with your head down unaware of your surroundings, there's a good chance you're going to get hurt.
Thanks… I think it’s one of those border line hits that the NHL is inconsistent with. Fans say it has no place in the game, if it’s their player getting hit and it’s good hard nose hockey if it’s their player laying the hit. As for the match penalty, again, the NHL is inconsistent and it pretty much depends on the name on the back of your jersey or who you play for.
That 5th goal was INCREDIBLE ! KK & Zucy combine for a BEAUTY 😁
That skips Zuccarello taking it away in the neutral zone and dishing is beautifully to Kaprisov before that. It was truly incredible. One of those plays that would make anyone admit that hockey can be gorgeous.

Is this the start of the annual Wild worst-to-first-to-1st round exit turnaround?
I was really hoping that they would get rid of Hynes before they started their hot streak. Is this the start of the annual Wild worst-to-first-to-1st round exit turnaround?
I think the talent is there to be a good team, but I don't think Hynes is capable of figuring it out.
Just the way Hynes has handled Buium is enough for me to think Hynes doesn’t get it. I don’t see Schafer playing 3rd pair for the Islanders or Hudson playing 3rd pair for Canadiens. And Hunt has been a markedly better partner than the SLUGS Buium had been stuck with. But putting Spurgeon up on the 1st power play unit & then keeping him there is still maddening.I was really hoping that they would get rid of Hynes before they started their hot streak. Is this the start of the annual Wild worst-to-first-to-1st round exit turnaround?

Faber & Buium paired together = SHUTOUT WIN. Tarps off MIDDLETON might wanna google Wally Pipp as far as playing in the Wild top 4 D going forward! lol
Nice shut out by Wallstedt! Why WILD used a #1 draft pick on him!

Was a SJ pp goal to tie score 1-1. Faber & Buium still haven’t been scored on. Going to OT vs Celibrini is damn near like going to OT vs McJesus!
Tarasenko has not been good. At least we gave up nothing for him, and his contract expires after this season. Once Sturm is back, I wouldn't mind seeing him in the press box but I doubt that happens.

It would be nice to have that $4M to spend on a real top 6 winger though

Cap space isn't really a problem. There weren't any FAs to spend it on either. If no adds happen before the deadline, they could afford a $16M player. If they want to add someone now, they can afford a $4.5M player if no money goes out or to Iowa. Pretty easy bridge to gap pending on who they target to remain compliant.
The number they can afford now goes up the more the days goes by too. They can go "big game hunting" on the trade market if they want to and are willing to give up whatever assets it takes to complete the deal.
they did have it. Tarasenko was the best Guerin could come up with.Tarasenko has not been good. At least we gave up nothing for him, and his contract expires after this season. Once Sturm is back, I wouldn't mind seeing him in the press box but I doubt that happens.

Tarasenko has been pretty bad, but he has still probably outplayed half of the forward group.

know it's probably not what you were trying to do in saying so, but using deadline cap space is not really helpful to the "right now". For reference Anaheim has $54 million in deadline cap space and $30 million in playoff cap space. I agree with you that Tarasenko's cap hit long term doesn't really matter other than to the owners who have to pay him as it sure looks like a waste of a contract at present, but it does limit what you can do in the immediate future.
A ton of teams can go big game hunting at the deadline every year, including many that are ahead of us in the standings and have more interesting prospect pools. The deadline will get super interesting this year where you may have more buyers for marginal guys as you have teams who have become contenders really fast in Anaheim, Chicago, Utah, and Montreal who have ample cap room plus some teams who have missed the playoffs a while who will have very stir crazy fan bases (Detroit probably being a massive #1 there) who will be bidders.
Deadline moves more depend on what assets you have to offer. We don't have our 2nd round pick the next 2 years but have a bonus 5th from the Sharks this year. The prospect pool has I guess Ohgren, Heidt, Jiricek, Stramel, and Yurov, but then you're just hurting yourself for the future as at some point you need some of these young guys to play the minutes you're giving to Foligno, Zuccy, Tarasenko, etc.
If they wanted to go the route of adding a plus player now, Calgary is probably going to be selling on what is an aging roster that sucks this year. A guy like Coleman is a 4.9mil cap hit right now that they could probably make the budget work for to add a little more scoring in the middle 6 plus a penalty killer.
Russo has reported that they're targeting Kyrou. I'm not sure what a deal there would look like though.
I wouldn't want to give up a Rossi for instance, because then you're just swapping top 6 guys and you're still a player short. They need to find a way to add to the top 6 so that Johannson and Tarasenko aren't a part of it.
JoJo has been great this year, but he's still a much better fit on a 3rd line instead of 1 or 2.
I don't think any deal is being held up because of Tarasenko's 4M was more the point I was making that the cap isn't the issue. The market has been the biggest issue. There hasn't been a significant trade in the NHL period in months, so it's not like it's as simple as "well if this guy wasn't here then we could get whoever we want."
They have to find a center to play with Kaprizov before they start thinking about trading for more 2nd line wingers
The Wild shut out Anaheim who is in first place in the Pacific division.
Jesper the WALL now has back to back shut outs. He has played 6 games and Wild has picked up 10 of 12 points with 4 wins and 2 OT losses on 3 on 3 goals.
The Wild beat Vegas today and have now won 6 of their last 8 games. The two losses were both by one goal (once of which was a 3 on 3 OT loss). They have picked up 13 of 16 possible points over the 8 games.

Praise the Lord! Wild desperately needed to end their FUNK vs Vegas! KK delivers in OT! 😁 lol Gus especially needed a Win!
The game tomorrow is on HBO Max. Odd, but I'll take it.

HBO Max after dark not quite as good as Cinemax after dark, but it will do.
Well, the Wild have a good young goalie... but when you get outshot 16-4 in the 2nd, 14-3 in the third, and 44-18 for the game...
"You're gonna have a bad time"
Wild looked competitive in the first, but look like an AHL team in the 2nd and 3rd.
Regardless of how this game turns out, I think we’re witnessing Wallstedt take the starting gig.

They've had 2 breakaway goals and a lucky bounce off Faber's skate. They were terribly outplayed for two periods and Carolina just kept up the pressure.
Wild's fourth line got beat a lot and in the end they were stuck in the D zone after frequent icings. Carolina kept throwing out their best line and the Wild paid the price.
Minnesota is a one, maybe 2-line team without Rossi and Hartmann.
They were lucky to get to OT.
Regardless of how this game turns out, I think we’re witnessing Wallstedt take the starting gig.
He was certainly the star of OT and shootout!
That glove save on the second attempt in the shootout was filthy.
That's a goalie win right there!!!
He absolutely ROBBED Svechnikov in the shootout!!! St. Paul police might be waiting after the game to ask him some questions about that crime.
Under 2 minutes to play, protecting a 1 goal lead and you intentionally put Ben Jones and Marcus Foligno on the ice? Foligno turned the puck over twice in a 10 second span leading to the tying goal.
Yurov gets to play with actual NHL players for a game and has 2 points.

Wally REFUSE to lose mentality. And Boldy was CLUTCH… unlike KK who can’t buy a goal in a SO! Wild won tonight despite Hynes coaching. Wally was OUTSTANDING.

This is why I was desperately hoping the team would save this stretch until after Hynes was fired
As much as I would like to see Hynes gone, I'm not sure it would make much of a difference if Guerin is still going to be the guy choosing his replacement. I think the infatuation with the overrated vets starts with him, and any coach he brings in will still lean on the wrong guys.Under 2 minutes to play, protecting a 1 goal lead and you intentionally put Ben Jones and Marcus Foligno on the ice? It's great to see. He is starting to look like the goalie people thought (and hoped) he was going to be. Last season in Iowa was not good, but the whole organization down there seems to breed a losing atmosphere.
Jesper's increased workload seems to have also resulted in Gus playing better than he had been to open the season. And, other than that 6 goal debacle against SJ, Jesper has outplayed Gus all season. If Hynes/Guerin stick to form, they will play Gus a little more because he is A) Older, and B) is paid significantly more. I think you continue to roll with both right now until someone gives you a reason to not start them. Is Jesper ready for 50+ NHL games? Maybe... But I would be in favor of continuing to ease him in a bit more. As long as both are playing well, I think you continue to play both equally and go with a 1A and 1B. And right now, Jesper is 1A.
So, if it were me, I'd start Gus against PIT, then go Jesper against WPG, Gus vs CHI, Jesper vs COL, Gus vs BUF. Just go every other game. I want Jesper playing against COL and WPG for sure. And I don't know that, as of right now, I want Gus going 10+ days between games. If Jesper continues to outplay Gus after that stretch, then I think you start to lean on him a little more.
However, if the team is going to give up 44 shots a night, and look punch-less for multiple periods a game, I don't want to burnout the potential future #1 guy either...
That was unbelievable goalie play by Wallstedt. Good for him!

The team seems to be at an inflection point. They have a nucleus of legit NHL stars on the team, and if they could make a couple of savvy moves, their future could be bright.
The old saying is that you build a good team from the net on out. It's early for Wally, but he's played very well and Gus is generally solid, though physically smaller than Wally. Deciding which one to play is a good problem to have. Faber and Buium are young and both still have room to get even better. I'd like to see another guy like Middleton to add some brutal physicality on defense. I really like what I've seen so far out of the Buium, but he's not edgy like a Duncan Keith who played a similar game. (I think a team really needs a punishing defenseman or two to complement their skilled partners.)
The problem is they aren't very deep. I keep hearing about how many prospects they have, but after Rossi and Hartman got hurt--neither of whom are super stars--there was a noticable drop in productivity. They need to get more shots on net. They won't win a lot of games getting outshot that badly, and they can't expect Boldy, KK, and Zucc to carry the team.
I'm not sure you can really say that the prospects aren't good, because they haven't been given a chance to this point. Yurov already has as many 5x5 points as Ek and more than Hartman despite playing over 100 minutes less than either. I would bet that Buium or even Jiricek could match Spurgeon's 1 5x5 point if they were given his ice-time and matchups. Gotta believe that Ohgren could out produce Foligno's 1 point as well. Imagine what might have happened last year if they didn't jerk Wallstedt around just to keep the AHL level Fleury happy? As much as I would like to see Hynes gone, I'm not sure it would make much of a difference if Guerin is still going to be the guy choosing his replacement. I bet the Wild are feeling a lot better than Edmonton is about this trade. I wonder how Edmonton's goalies are doing? 😉 😀

The Wild go to Pittsburgh and blow out the Penguins 5-0.
Gus gets the shut out.
The Wild have now won 4 games in a row and are 8-1-1 over their last 10 games out scoring their opponents 33-17 with three shut outs and their 6 games.
22 games into the season Boldy has 13 goals and Kirill has 12 goals.
Marcus Johansson has 18 points, 8 goals, 10 assists and leads the team with +8.
Wild went WILD tonight…bitch slapped Penguins 5-0! 🤪 Gus with SO. Boldy with 2G, KK 1, EE 1 & JoJo 1. ZB with nice assist on PP
Nice seeing WILD rub the Penguins noses in💩tonight
The Wild fan in me is waiting for the other shoe while still enjoying the moment. 🤣
@slap-shot just the Wild? This seems more like a Minnesota fan thing.
The return of Zuccy has made a huge difference.
In the 7 games Zucc has played the Wild are 6-0-1 out scoring their opponents 22-9. The only loss was 2-1 in OT where the Wild outshot the Sharks 29-18 and Gus had a shut out going until San Jose scored a power play goal with just over 8 minutes left in the 3rd period to tie the game.
