I list the Drai contract because its the highest in the league at that time. Hence the comment regarding % cap hit trying to make it relative as think that's more reasonable way to compare with a changing salary cap number.
Think your second part is, we will see. It's also that he's a winger, which inherently is lower value as compared with McDavid and Eichel. I'll be curious to see what they sign for. Agree that comp of Marner makes more sense but, to me, it more looks like Marner signed a bad contract rather than that's what I'd view market value as now. Though KK would be in the 15-16 range, but get where his agent is coming from at the 15% marker of estimated cap hit.
His expectations will certainly go up, but I don't think that will bother KK at all as he certainly is a hard-working, hard-training guy.
Kaprizov has done nothing in this league to be compared to Draisaitl. Mikko Rantanen and Mitch Marner both signed 8 year deals for $12M this summer. I don't know if I agree with that. Little challenging due to timing of coming into league/age and difference in age at this time with one playing with the best player in the world by far. I do think it's an overpay for what the market is right now. Being the one who sets new market can be a shit show for the team if they overshoot. I think they probably did at 17 for a deal for right now and will take awhile for other guys' numbers to catch up to that
I really enjoy watching KK play and I certainly like that he is on the Wild. I am just not sure he will ultimately be worth that kind of money. I guess I am just used to watching the local teams overpay for guys and then see the results not work out.
Then again, I guess I should appreciate when a local team does pay up and doesn't cry poor to the fan base. So I guess I should respect that part of it.
KK does make his teammates better but... I just don't know if he is truly the type of guy who is going to lead them to the cup. I certainly hope he does though.

And thankfully, it’s now time to MOVE ON from all this drama! 👍

It is a big number but I find it easier to swallow paying Kaprisov $17M/year to play than to pay Parise and Suter $14.7M to NOT play.

Kaprizov's contract will no doubt continue the dialogue about NHL cities in states with high income tax rates compared with NHL cities that don't have state income taxes, a.k.a. the teams that happen to be winning Stanley Cups with some frequency lately.
According to an analysis by the Tax Foundation, Minnesota has the fifth-highest top income tax rate in the U.S., at 9.85%. There's no question that's a factor in Kaprizov getting $136 million over eight seasons, because he wouldn't have gotten that same number in a no-tax state. Jeff Marek of Daily Faceoff spoke with one player agent who said Kaprizov's average annual value in a place like Florida would have been around $14 million.

It's all about context. Heck, even Kaprizov's deal might look like a bargain in the next few seasons.
Take Draisaitl's contract that he signed last September. Levine says that under next year's salary cap, Draisaitl's contract would have been worth $15.25 million against the cap. Conversely, if you took Kaprizov's contract and put into current cap dollars, the AAV would be around $15.6 million.
One NHL executive likened the rise in the salary cap to a "tidal wave" that'll just keep adding more and more large contracts as it grows. Which means the key for teams is locking players in before that wave crests.
Those numbers make it look even worse than I thought it was.

The article is stating that a $14M contract in FL nets a similar "take home pay" to the $17M contract. However, 9.15% of $17M is 1.5M, which leaves $15.5M... and then that money gets federally taxed because it wasn't deducted from state. So I have no idea how the math all works to go from $17 down to $14... I get what they are trying to say, but the math doesn't math (at least for me)
Believe there is also how states view how the tax the signing bonus part. There are other ways to hide money than just state tax rate

Buium had his hiccups, but he wasn’t brutal, and the power play is cashing in. Maybe because Brodin was rusty & he’s become used to playing with Middleton, but Faber was clearly OFF defending last night & Spurgion got out muscled defensively & Zeev did to at times. But mostly…the saves Gus made on prime Blues chances, he wasn’t able to make those key saves last night. Jojo is JoJo, always plays about the same. Need to get Yurov into the lineup Monday night.
