Did 16/17 you know you were gonna be a multimillionaire in 2-3 years anyway?

I would be shocked if he had any clue who DuPont is
Pat thinks the kid is going to chase money. He also said wasn’t going to happen on Smith
i doubt we land him as still thinks it’s Michigan, but it’s not done and dusted or he would’ve already committed

If I said yes would you believe me?
Let's get him and make a center out of him. This should be the Dupont thread from now until he commits
Pat thinks the kid is going to chase money. He also said wasn’t going to happen on Smith
But did he says that on Smith?

he did not say anything on money no.
i think it’s an interesting question but don’t see how anyone would know what DuPont wants given he hasn’t even started touring campuses and had effectively just been communicating remotely throughout the playoffs plus we have someone who knows Everett saying it is not a 0% chance.
fun to let it play out. Good to actually be mentioned given the history of us not taking Canadians which could get held against you now. Wheeler isn’t just going to make this up as he’s too far up the ranks to go with a bs rumor
Pat is shockingly out of the loop for someone so close to the program. He was ignorant to the coaching change mere days before it happened when everyone else and their moms had heard rumblings.
I’d let this one play out still, but yes Michigan is the favorite.

Where did Pat say no on Smith? Alex Micheletti was basically confirming Smith back in April and he also knew who all the transfers were before the portal opened. I just assumed he got info from his dad and that’s why I think Pat is more clued in than people think but who knows.

alex gets a lot of info not from his dad. Bunch of people said yes smith then said no (because of his injury).
Just saying, let the dust settle. DuPont himself appears to not even know for sure and has changed per people who know people closer to DuPont than Pat ever would be
Lot of the top guys still are undecided. Still don’t think dupont ends up here and Pat id say would be one of the last to know, particularly given dupont (and multiple chl guys playing in the memorial cup) went quiet on recruiting despite that pretty much every team was up scouting and that’s where this now is all coming from (like wheeler isn’t citing Flo hockey saying he’s considering mn because his gf is at Kato)
Reid was supposed to be going to Michigan. Harper was as well (and currently has had no steam to go anywhere).
If Larson is telling Pat his recruiting strategy and isn’t on pushing off someone or begley out to make room for dupont, we have a serious problem lol

Yeah I’m not saying the gophers have no chance or anything I just thought it was notable that Pat is all over twitter saying DuPont is 100% not coming here and he knows it as fact. Just seems like a weird thing to do unless you really know. It’s plausible that DuPont has already narrowed his choices down and has told schools including the gophers no and Pat knows that. It’s not like that is something Larson wouldn’t tell him.
Pat is of the opinion the roster is set and has been saying since early May mn is out. Basically everyone else has said something changed in the last short period of time. I’ll go with those people that the kid is at least mulling options
@boosker14 yes I also said this team last year would finish 5th and be terrible and they actually finished 6th. I said Bob lost it before the season and you guys told me to stop being negative. If this team doesn't get a really good center they are a first round of the tournament team at best. You guys keep talking about DuPont who while would be a boost he wouldn't fill our biggest need.
Oh brother
@upnorthkid Then Brett Larson failed the off season.
Bonin is that you....

Pretty sure Pat was denying the fact that Motzko was gone up until about 8 hours before it was announced. Not exactly in the know.

That's gotta be a record. New coach failed his first season 4 months before it even started.

Yea, that's my job. Passionate and dumber than bricks
Everything written about DuPont makes me believe that he has a different character makeup than McKenna and isn’t necessarily going to just chase the biggest payday.
While that may be the case, I know what 16/17 year old me would’ve done if someone said “Hey come play hockey for our school, as a thank you we’ll give you upwards of a quarter of a million bucks!”
16-17y/o me would’ve wanted to play for the Gophers above all. For free or not, doesn’t matter. Would not have had any doubt in my teenage mind.
(yes I realize that a kid from somewhere in Canada likely doesn’t have the same reverence for the M that we all did growing up)

I’d personally put Hendrickson in over Kvasnicka with the experience he has but still.
Moe was recruited to be a scorer. Put him in a position to do so.
My guess is the alunmi were informed they needed to get to a certain dollar amount in a NIL fund set by the Dupont camp and didnt achieve it by the needed date. If its some other reason michletti and his son dont need to be within a 100 ft radius of Larson's recruiting. I think the son is a minnesota st fan and pat i believe said wisconsin is the best coaching job in hockey. They dont need to be the gopher recruiting insider's on X.

I think Humphreys might also get some early looks at #2C on the line chart. He’ll likely be one of our big X-factors this coming year because having 2-3 good scoring lines up front (+luck w/ avoiding injuries) will probably put us in the Frozen Four conversation with how solid the top-6 on D looks right now
So, they don't have even 1 top 6 center? If the roster is in fact set as is, who are the teams top 6 forwards? Who are the 4 centers?@upnorthkid Then Brett Larson failed the off season.

"Failed" might not be the right word to describe this off-season, but it's closer than some want to admit.
Are none of Cullen, Kvasnicka, or Humphreys capable of playing center? Mooney isn't a center and Moe is solid but it would be quite a stretch for him to be able to step up to that level.
Pat is a great gopher supporter and he is passionate. Pat also has zero clue what is going on.

100% not true. Just because he gets it wrong once in a while doesn't mean he never gets it right.
"Failed" might not be the right word to describe this off-season, but it's closer than some want to admit.
The season is several months away still by the way, and the roster as it stands now is in far far better shape than it was last year.
There are some question marks and perhaps a center shaped hole sure, but I could’ve said similar about Wisconsin and Denver this past season, and yet there they were in Vegas.
The problem with the center situation is that you’re hoping Mooney (who didn’t play center) and Moe magically ascend their game well beyond what they did a year ago. Which kinda sounds like the D situation last year where everyone hoped Gruba would become good. I have to imagine the coaching staff is aware of this and there’s still time left to figure it out but if they don’t then next year’s team isn’t exactly a contender. That not to say they couldn’t potentially win games in a one and done tourney but they’re probably at best 3rd in the B1G. Not saying that’d be a horrible outcome either.

Let us not forget that Denver got Hicks only because he committed to (checks notes...) Tennessee State ....but they ended up not having a program

Mooney is literally a center
Listen, I’m not opposed to adding another center but then I get really nervous of guys like Moore or Moe getting pushed to 4th line and subsequently the portal.
Moe especially has a really bright future.

Mooney took a lot of high pressure and defensive zone faceoffs last year as a freshman.

yes he did. he was bad at it, but he did take quite a few draws (won under 40% per CHN). Think he's more dangerous if played on the wing and at 5'8", that's a tough ask to be able to deal with the in zone physicality you need out of a center while losing some of his playmaking. Better break outs from the D will help that some, but a big ask to think he can be a 1C this year
Di Pasquo would "literally" be a center if you played him there. Doesn't mean that it would be a smart decision. Mooney is a good player, so he would make it work as best he can, but you're making your team weaker by playing him at center. So, they don't have even 1 top 6 center? If the roster is in fact set as is, who are the teams top 6 forwards? PSU hockey fans are some of the most delusional in the country lol
Let us not forget that Denver got Hicks only because he committed to (checks notes...) Tennessee State ....but they ended up not having a program
To me it was always clear that NCAA D1 men’s hockey would literally never be feasible for Tennessee State. The school itself has been on the brink of insolvency for the last few years. Their “head coach” (laughable title seeing as the hockey team doesn’t exist) ran around blatantly lying and begging for pocket change thru every media outlet who’d give him the time of day. All the partner / sponsor orgs he claimed were involved gave PR-trained “we don’t know what this guy is talking about” type answers. When he’s been asked about hockey X&O’s or recruiting, he just says a bunch of utter nonsense which credulous Southerners don’t know enough to push back on.
And now TSU’s “head coach” has gone radio silent for over a year. I really hope that he gets cleaned out in court by all the small individual donors he defrauded, because I have zero patience for these kinds of grifters. Especially since the patronizing, hollow “diversity” spin on his grift just undermines actual efforts to diversify hockey.
Di Pasquo would "literally" be a center if you played him there.
Did Di Pasquo play any center in juniors? Just checking, because Mooney did.
@hey_sioux_suck I see him as a wing he's to small to play center.
Listen, I’m not opposed to adding another center but then I get really nervous of guys like Moore or Moe getting pushed to 4th line and subsequently the portal.
Moe especially has a really bright future.
good point. Both are critical to the progression and development of our overall team.
Moore is slated to be a stud this year if put in the right scenario. Here’s to hoping he’s been on constant Knies video watch since season end. If he drives the net like Knies did, he’ll be a force for the gophs
Excited to see Moe and Moore this next season.
@puckluck mason moe should not factor into roster decisions.
I feel like Mason Moe has a lot of upside and could be a really solid college player. I liked how his game grew and I believe he’s just scratching the surface. Big body and a solid shot. Get him on a line with guys who can play and I’ll think he’ll surprise you. Is he going to be Cooley? No, but the majority of guys that play college aren’t going to be. You need solid players like Moe on your team to have a well rounded roster and compete. So I don’t really understand why he “should not factor into roster decisions”.
mason moe should not factor into roster decisions.
Why on earth not? He’s a center with good upside and goal scoring ability. Devils spent a 3rd round pick on him, the NHL disagrees with you.
@boosker14 we need a top line guy. If a number one center is available you take him regardless of Mason Moes feeling.
this whole mason moe could transfer line of thinking is such a bizarro logic leap.
If he's not good enough and he bounces to a lower line, i mean one you've brought in some pretty god damn good talent to play. He bounced on lower lines last year, it's not like he was playing PP2/PK2 and now is getting demoted. He's a sophomore who came in early and i think he knows he's going to have to earn time. If he can't beat out Ludtke to be a top 6 center or isn't willing to compete (knowing Ludtke is gone next year), that's on him and you move on.
Our best rosters have guys willing to do that and always have, particularly our MN kids. Go look at the 22-23 roster that had Pitlick, Huglen, and Kurth all doing exactly that.
Both Moe and Moore need to keep developing (and I hope Moore has more runway, he will be 20-21 this season so he should get more polished). There's no other B10 team they'd go to and walk in immediately and be top 6 aside from maybe ND (and that's a strong maybe). I love the future players they could be. But you can't get caught hand-wringing because might become really good one day. They both came here to develop, not to be promised their spot. I think all parties know that and know Larson's job is to push them every day. He has said as much in all his pressers and interviews and that practices will be competitive
