In the past players who were part of the USNTDP in the prior years usually have an advantage when it comes to these teams. Zellers did not go through the program. Not saying he isn't deserving, but that could be in play. I've also seen in places that Bob doesn't care and his assistants are really running the team. Now Bob is stacking the team. Which is it?

Kvasnicka named to WJC prelim roster with Mooney and Zeimer. Doubt he makes it but good experience for him
There's only one forward cut left at this point, I'd probably expect him to be that guy but who knows with Bob coaching.
If Kwaz makes that team there will be a lot of finger pointing about potential home-cooking from killer and Bob. For what it’s worth, Kwaz would play the energy 4th line role well. And he’s shown he has scoring prowess at the program and in the dub this year

obviously there is option to "make" a lot of room on the team as well and we are rostering one less player than we could with out for sure being Lamb, Mitts x2, Thomas, Weise. don't think there are really any early flight risks but you do have Rud, Begley, and Harris who could all be carried as extras if you really wanted to bring more guys in but the above guys all would be who you would logically expect may come in, though could see them considering pushing Phillips another year to play more minutes than he would get coming in next year based on where his skating is at. Will be a very interesting offseason when we get there.

I'll say that as a reasonably high NHL draft pick I think if they don't bring Phillips in then he's more likely than not going to another school next year.

This in all caps. IMO the forwards and goaltending will be ready to contend next season, but that d core is not ready to contend. They can’t waste a year of contention after this season.
Hopefully the way this season has gone will be a lil poke in their behinds to really get after it in the offseason. I’m sure they’ve heard stuff from all over this season. As much as we can rip the coaches at times, the expectations of the program are not lost on them. They’re well aware.
They need to add a D at the break. I would imagine Phillips comes in next year, doesn't really seem like a Motzko/Miller type of D. Doesn't move puck well, takes a lot of penalties. Motzo doesn't seem to value a physical Dman like some coaches.
Katz should play another year juniors, maybe CHL. He's good, but undrafted and USHL is down from previous years and College is better. No rush for him to come in. Take an extra year like Ben Meyers.

It was hinted at that part of Bob’s lack of willingness to dip into the CHL may have been tied to a sort of moral obligation to USA hockey (crazy imo but hey it’s not my theory).
If that’s truly what’s holding him back, what would be wrong with grabbing one of the USA guys in the CHL. Blake Fiddler comes to mind. A Texas kid (we dipped into the jr Stars program last summer for McArthur) who played with Rombach, Moe, Grimes, Casey & Ben Gordon at the Hlinka; Mooney, Phillips and Kvasnicka at u18s, and will now be playing under Miller and Bob at world juniors.
A lot of familiarity there, and he’d basically be handed the keys to the power play. This post probably should be in the potential recruits thread but yeah, just a name I’ve thought of a lot for next season.

Yeah I don’t know his injury history but it’s not uncommon to see guys rushed back or misdiagnosed etc. even in the NHL. Cooley came back after that knee hit for a couple games and then suddenly he’s out for 8 weeks minimum. Guessing in this case it’s less severe.

I’m guessing that hitting the goal post with that previously injured leg had something to do with it…if you see a video, it looked like he hyperextended his knee. (Cooley that is)

Kvasnicka didn’t have a great draft season, but he’s looked promising in his draft-plus-one in the WHL. He’s a good skater with legit skill who has shown more consistent effort. His size is the only issue in his projection at 5-foot-11. — Corey Pronman

Any insights into how Kvasnicka has been doing at the pre-tournament WJ practices?
Conboy seems to have hit the ground running in the USHL in terms of production. Really impressive stuff from a 16 year old. Projects to be on campus 2027-28 and potentially make an immediate impact with his big frame. Has all the tools of a first rounder.
Kvasnicka back in the lineup for Penticton, so that should put that to rest.

I’m all for Cullen playing another year of junior if he wants but Harper on the other hand needs to be a gopher next year even if he’s a 7d pp specialist he’s just too good offensively. He’s a non NTDP player he didn’t just accelerate and sign an NLI for the heck of it and if the gophers don’t bring him in someone else definitely will. He’s out pacing Zayne Parekh in their respective draft-1 years and he ended up going 9th overall in his draft. I’d bet everything I have that part of the recruiting pitch to land him was he could play his draft year as a gopher.
