Pretty sure he’s an 09 and has always played against older kids, but he’s always been one of the biggest kids one the ice (and field for soccer). NTDP posted their updated heights and weights for the season. Wyatt Cullen went from 5-8(146) to 6-0(172). Personally, I think he’s going to have a big year this year and be one of the first forwards drafted off the U18 team this coming draft.

Correct. As a very young player for his draft - assuming good health and a productive year - he could well be a first rounder with this growth spurt.

I was there last night, McArthur was all over the ice. Had a goal and hit the post. Geiger was as advertised as well you can just tell he’s oosing potential.
Fitzhenry and Schneider were probably the best players on either team.

Levi Harper commits. Late 08. Former Shattuck RHD from Tampa who was great at the Hlinka and signed with OHL Saginaw.
Levi Harper commits!! The coaching staff is on fire this year! Offensive dman out of Shattuck. California native I believe. Playing this year (and next?) for Saginaw in the OHL. Brother is (for the time being) a Michigan commit although it wouldn’t shock me if he’s cut loose after they missed on the younger brother.

If I’m coach my day 1 offers are:
F: Fitzhenry, Schneider, Conboy, Cullen, Jarvis
D: Geiger, Scott, Johnson
Rooney and Zimmerman right on the edge, next in line.
So from maroon_and_gold's wish list for defenseman we have Ben Geiger (RHD USNTDP). And instead of Scott and Johnson the Gophers got commitments from Broden McArthur (RHD USNTDP) and Levi Harper (RHD Shattuck).
How do Geiger, Broden, and Harper stack up vs the wish list? I see we have all RHD. I assume they are all top prospects but I don't know much about them. It's weird to get a commit from an OHL kid. I'll be curious to see if the commitment sticks.
The only righty on the current roster is Gruba and Grimes and Phillips are both lefties. I'm not surprised to see the staff target that side this time around.

Maybe be we can piece together the validity of this story. From those that watched the game. Was Motzko at the game? Did Fitzhenry play center?

Can confirm I was at the game. Bob was there as well as Rico Blasi, Dane Jackson, Scott Sandelin, a BU assistant and a Notre Dame assistant. And that’s just who I saw walking around there were likely more.

yep on #1, they're just able to say here's our benefits package, here are some things our athletes are doing, etc. Hockey is still very much in its infancy here.
On #2, I think they're at a tough spot right now because no matter the money, your cap hit is an AAV. you can't do what the NFL does and stagger it incrementally so account for changes in cap, so don't blame players at all when the payroll is listed as $20mil higher (7.5, 8.5 and then 9.5 mil higher each year as agreed to in the CBA with the possibility it may go up further) and if you're commanding 10-15% of the cap, that's 2-2.5mil higher a year. Will be curious to see if they're overplaying the 4 Nations bump they've clearly gotten or not but the growth of the league over the last few years is outstripping the other big sports who have vastly higher salaries
With McLaughlin on the current team and Grimes, McArthur, Harper now committed, it's worth noting that since the borders were re-opened under Lucia the only out-of-state Gopher defensemen to either complete their college eligibility without transferring or leave specifically to sign an NHL contract are Peter Kennedy and Ryan Johnson.
I don't know why this program hasn't had defensemen from elsewhere at the same rate that they've had forwards and goalies. But it's something I've noticed.
It's because MN HS hockey produces more stay at home defensemen.

Jackson Nevers named captain of the Capitols. I know people aren’t too high on him but I see him as a great 4 year player with grit and some skill to go along with it. And we know he bleeds maroon and gold.
