So....Close will play 97% of the games this year.
This game is not exhibition. In case the team needs a reminder.
5-4 now. Brodzy tip on the PP.
Maybe stay the bleep out of the box now?
Maybe remember we're the effing Gophers and we don't take sh* from anyone, and start to crush these fleas.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Koster. 6-4. PP
Wow. Nevers gets smacked twice after the whistle and no call.

Coach played for North Dakota. Hard nosed hockey.
I only watched the 3rd but we looked good while I watched.
I'm not going to get too up in arms over a bad game early in the season.
It was closer than it should have been. I'll leave it at that. I know about "exhibition," playing your backups and all that, I took that into account.

I am going to enjoy watching Strobel and Chesley. This frosh class is good. They're gonna be fun to watch. Lamb seems like he might turn into a guy that scores a million
It was ugly but they made sure they got the win.
But yeah a lot to get cleaned up before the next two series or else it could get ugly in a hurry
Pretty annoying that BTN+ never showed the game at all. They had a "technical difficulties" message up throughout the first period, and then just took the game off the schedule. I've seen them have issues for the first few minutes of a period before, but they've never missed an entire game that I'm aware of. Not a real good sign for the rest of the year.
But in classic BTN fashion, they were able to stream the Wisconsin Football Coach firing news conference just fine....
I’m going to go out on a limb and say Close is our guy. I know not all of those goals were Barto’s fault but still, that was four goals let in against Lindenwood. Also, I was at the rink tonight and I noticed that after they announced a Lindenwood player for the third star of the game it took awhile for a the gophers to come out for their stars of the game. I believe Koster was out getting interviewed by BSN but otherwise they were all down the tunnel. Maybe they getting a pep talk or a bit of an ear full. Or maybe I’m just completely reading into it.
Well that’s early October hockey for ya. As Motzko said in the postgame show: “I’ve seen this movie a thousand times.”
Just happy we got the win.
I watched on stream and 2 of the goals were very bad and should not be allowed at this level.
Can’t fault Barto too much for some of those goals but yeah it should be Close time down the stretch
I said it last night and I’ll say it again Lindenwood looked REALLY solid for a program making the jump. More of that tonight was a case of the gophers playing poorly but you have to remember it’s the Lions first weekend too. Hats off to them. They might give some teams fits this year.

I purchased Big Ten Plus ($64) for the first time this season on firestick. Saturdays game went well. Tonight I had the same messages as nowheresville. Pretty frustrating, but at least I could listen to Wally and Frank on the radio. If Big Ten Plus has issues again next Friday against Mankato I will be asking for a refund.
Charlie Strobel became my favorite player on the team maybe 2 shifts into the game. He’s an energy, physical, puck retrieving guy and he plays his role to perfection. He’s gonna be a fan favorite here.

My thoughts exactly. Love guys who play like they are trying to earn a spot every shift.
Lindenwhatever tried everything they could to get under MN's skin and it worked for a while but MN shook it off and regained control.....though I was really hoping someone would (legally) run 15 into the next millennium.
From top to bottom I'm not sure I've seen a Fr. class this willing to shoot the puck. It usually seems they are timid at first and eventually pull the trigger. This group wants to score. Badly.

Yep. As Bob said in the postgame you gotta take the positives out of these type of weekends and the big positive for me is that the freshmen look ready to go. Snuggerud didn’t even get his name on the scoresheet and he’ll probably be a 30 point freshman.

It’s because they were waiting for Koster so they could announce him as the next star.

Got it. Thank you! Like I said, completely reading into it.
Weird game but as others have said, there are still plenty of positives to take from this weekend. It looks like it was “October hockey” all around the country this weekend so I’m not going to get too worried. Let’s learn from it and get ready for Kato next weekend. Friday should be a lot of fun!
Not the best weekend, but I'll take the sweep.
LOTS of stuff for Motzko and company too use for coaching this week. Getting the sweep is good, but the level of play tonight was a bit more sloppy than we should expect from this team.
A nice start with several freshmen getting goals this weekend, and wow is Cooley going to be fun to watch.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Two things I noticed:
1) The one official was starting to tell the Gophers to get off the ice at the 1 minute warning.
2) After the 1st period he would not let the Gophers leave the bench to congratulate Close. He stopped them and made them go to their locker room.
Which one was it? One of my softball teammates was officiating the games this weekend lol
Are they not sending out post game surveys this year? At least I have not received any yet.

I have not received one either.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
Not clear what they would do for people who bought the seasons worth of games…

I'm not sure it is particularly realistic to expect a well oiled machine.
For those who missed the postgame comments.

The always love to see the freshmen get their 1st goals/points out of the way. Takes the pressure off. Would have liked to see Snuggy get a goal, but it will come soon I'm sure.

The game was sloppy. Early in the year and all that, but there were some flashes of really good play. My impression, after only watching last night, is that Huglen seems to have made a pretty decent jump from last year. I actually noticed him on the ice last night. Can't say there was a lot of that from him last year.
@composer funny thing was the feed originally was the direct TV logo floating on screen. Then it changed to the direct TV guide screen and you could see a message that bsn+ wasn't purchased. They then showed cbs (and 60 minutes) for a while before going to the technical difficulty screen.
Blonde hair official. Looked young, maybe in his late 30's.
Keep your stick on the ice...

I've been waiting patiently waiting for mine. Had fun not holding back last year on all the surveys I followed up on.

Typical fair weathered Gopher fans. I was expecting it. If the Gophers didn't win 6-0 (Sat.) and 10-1 (Sun.) those fans would be coming out by the dozens. Reading the comments from Star Trib. and Gopher based fb groups is very typical, funny and eye rolling. I try not to engage into Gopher Hockey and even Gopher Football foolishness. And follow Proverbs 26:4-5.
"Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you yourself will be just like him. Answer a fool according to his folly, or he will be wise in his own eyes."

I'm pretty happy with the way these games played out. Lindenwood (a name that sounds more like a tony LA suburb) worked their tails off and forced Minnesota into at least trying to play within a structure. Sure, it was one of those games where guys were flying all over the ice making all kinds of mistakes, but in the second game, they had to clamp down to get the win.
These games are a lot more instructive than a couple of 8-0 laffers.
Kudos to the Lindenwood. They were ready to play and never quit.
If there is any one concern is it is how will the Gophers fare against a team employing Lindenwood's style but with a roster full of more talent? I didn't watch either game but it reads as though they played a style similar to MSUM which has been giving the Gophers fits the past few years. If that is the case and if this team/coaches can't figure out a counter plan...

I don't know that I'd call it angst. Not the best game last night, but it's the first weekend, a bit of rust is expected, and that film will give Bob lots of things to point to and work on.

Better to expose these things and get this stuff on film to work thru in practice with the young guys now than during the next two series.
Our defense wasn’t stellar at the start of last season either, but they got the rust off eventually. I am confident they will get it sorted even quicker this season with all the experience we have on the back-end.
Minnesota State seems to be having their own issues too. They got clobbered by Omaha on Saturday.
Hope the guys have a great week of practice and come ready to play on Friday.

Yeah, this pisses me off to no end.

Agreed. They are a much better team than I think many people realize. They play with structure and play their system well. They don't have a lot of top talent, but they aren't completely devoid of talent either. Later in the season when the Gophers are gelling better, I don't think these games are as close. But we have a lot of new guys learning systems and their team knows and plays theirs well. I am happy to come out of this with the sweep as well. Better to have these bumps now than to blow out some crappy team playing poorly and learn little early. Learning while winning is always good.

As noticeable as he was last night, he was even more so on Saturday. He is going to have a great year.

Exactly!
@slap-shot The system is not what gave the Gophers fits...it was more that they were making usual freshmen mistakes and were playing like they knew they had the talent to win when they had to. They would take a game against MSUM more seriously.
Put it this way, I doubt next week we will see a lot of 2 on 1s where both players pass twice just for funsies.
If anyone is actually getting bent out of shape over a SWEEP that didn’t look pretty, just save yourself the headache. You think these underclassmen are gonna play structured hockey and not go for the home run play after waiting the entire offseason and playing Lindenwood of all teams.
I expect them to play a much more dialed in game against Mankato. It’s not lost on any of these players what these games mean.
I haven't seen anything about whether or not we get Cluvers forlast night.
