Might as well start it.

Who is leaving, who is staying?

I will start this off. Mr Sammy Walker please do NOT comeback for a 5th year. It is time for you to move on.

Mr Knies, Mr Faber 1 More year please.

Should be easier for everyone to focus at work today.

It’s usually tougher for me. I’m just a sad sack of $hit the day after the season ends.

Don’t really see a need for a potential 5th year senior coming back. Not like Walker and McLaughlin were world beaters wining us games on a regular basis. This team won’t miss them. Meyers gone will hurt but it is what it is.

The blue line is interesting. Could realistically make a case for all of Faber, Johnson, and LaCombe to come back. Losing in the fashion they did could sway some to return.

Excited to see the freshman class. Cooley, Snuggerud, and Kurth should be instant contributors. They have a fantastic nucleus to build around in Broz, Huglen, Pitlick, Lucious, and Knies (I think he will be back). Future is bright!

Can we not all blow a gasket when Lacombe and Johnson inevitably sign? Thanks.

I think it stormed over night in Boston. Hockey gods were angered.

I’ll take a stab at next years captaincy.

Koster-C

Knies-A

Perbix-A

or

Koster-C

Knies-C

Bob has shown he likes to do the two captain thing.

I think we will find out fairly quick on Knies, since Toronto would want him in there lineup immediately

For his own development it’s probably best he stays another year, but I have a hard time blaming the kid if he has a clear opportunity to go pro on a competitive team. Money talks.

Especially since Dubas was in Worcester so I imagine he talked with Knies while he was there, to either hear where Knies thinking was at or to map out a plan.

Biggest off season questions-- (no particular order)

-- Who stays and who goes

-- Goaltending situation

-- The Lucius Brothers

-- Transfer portal

-- Will our assistants be back, or will one of them try to be a head coach at some level

-- Captains for next year

-- Where will they be ranked when the polls come out in Oct

-- Will the success the last few months turn into ticket sales

-- When is the Arizona trip

-- TV schedule and are we prepared for more streaming of the games

I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.

I think this opinion is out of place. The seniors on this team were great players. I enjoyed watching them play for 4 years and if you haven't, what kind of fan are you.

I don't think he is saying that, he is just saying bringing them back for a 5th year is probably not necessary. They are both good players, but next years team does not hinge on them. So unless you just want to have some older players on the team (which you could make an argument for) it probably is, in his mind, time for them to move on.

That doesn't diminish their time as Gophers or make him a bad fan.

There is nothing out of line about suggesting a 4th year senior player should not return for an additional season.

It is out of line by singling him out in such a manner. I would love to have Sammy Walker and Blake McLaughlin back for a 5th year and if you wouldn't then you are crazy.

Ok so you would be fine with a 5th year. Which Freshman are you going to tell to stay in the USHL or go find another team.

Now we wait and see. The guys that could come back should come back, I hope. The NHL will still be there next year and the year after that, it's not going any place.

And with the freshman class we have coming in, that could be one hell of a team! :dup:

Yeah... last year was celebrating the 100th year of Gopher Hockey and this year was celebrating 100 years (anniversary) of Gopher Hockey. Was fun while it lasted, but time to go back to the big M!!!

I agree on Sammy. Have I enjoyed watching him? Sure. That doesn't mean I can't think it's time for him to move on and make room for the incoming players. His season was not good. Why, I don't know, but it wasn't.

Stings to see this before Sunday.

My best guesses on stay/go:

Knies: Stay

Meyers: Go

LaCombe: Go

Johnson: Go

Faber: Go

I'll be pretty enthused if we return even two of those names. Defensive group could be a work in progress early and goaltending a mystery. May have to outgun teams.

I'm going to guess Meyers is the only one of the group that is gone. Maybe that's too much optimism.

Why not Mankato will most likely have their whole team back again next year. Less the 1 NHL draft pick that they will replace with a 27 year old Hermantown alumni. Mr. Green

I'm trying to imagine a Faber or Knies playing college hockey at age 25. Wondering what kind of players they would be? :smt068

Anyway, I think those guys stay unless there's a lot of pressure from NHL club.
