@gator I was just going to post that. The Cow was 15 feet into the ice and touched the puck and Goalie was still on the ice.
When you slow it down the goalie had one foot in the bench and was just pulling up the second foot when he touched it. I think we can let that slide with a 2 goal lead. I wouldn’t want that called on us in that situation.
Will be interesting to see how good Kato ends up being and how good of a win this turns out to be.
I thought the Gophers caught a break on the Mankato disallowed goal which could have gone either way. Tomorrow in Mankato will be a good test for the Gophers against a rabid Maverick crowd.
What a thoroughly played game tonight top to bottom. Can’t say I’m not surprised based on how much youth we have in the lineup. SWEEP tomorrow!!!!
Took the Gophers about 4 shifts to understand this game was going to be much faster than anything they saw last weekend and they pretty much owned the balance of the game. Very solid.

Agreed half way through the first it was like a light bulb went off.
God I love our D corps. Nothing fazes them.

I suspect Brock Faber's heart rate never goes above about 55

Pretty sure there was a similar play in the NCAAs last year (think it was vs WMU) and the goal was allowed. Announcer said Close should have initiated contact with the player in the paint. Tonight that's what Close did and the call went his way. I thought it sounded dumb at the time, but maybe announcer guy knew what he was talking about.
I noticed Knies wasn’t skating very hard at all on the back check and seemed lazy tonight for his defensive game. When he had opportunities to get the puck offensively he put in maximum effort.
I hope the coaches correct that.

And I think this is something the other guys are learning from. They all seem so composed all the time. Even the new guys and especially Chesley who clearly wants to go hit people.
I hope Brock has a great NHL career and then decides to return like Paul Martin.
That was a fun one! The fans that showed up were loud and into the game. It wasn’t packed but it was a good atmosphere.
Quick thoughts:
1. Jaxon Nelson was a monster!
2. Can’t be stated enough how good and steady our defenseman are
3. Shoutout to Snuggerud (the 3rd was absurd)
Can’t wait for the game tomorrow. Will be interesting to see how many Gopher fans are there.
Well, at least 11. ?
we have a group of 8 and I know at least six more going down. Although my voice is half gone so tomorrow will be tough.
a few pregame beverages should lube it right back up. ?

I disagree. The replay in the arena was pretty obvious even the Cow fans around me saw it.
2 things:
1) Give the students more tickets. Good lord they made it sound like the arena was more than half filled. (it wasnt)
2) The Gophers were the better team pretty much from the 10 minute mark in the first on. Once they started shooting the puck they dominated the ice.
They started winning face-offs, too, which makes a huge difference.
They ended up 31-29 for the cows but I don't think it was even close the past few times we played them.

I think Vegoe has access to the players so if he can I would love for him to ask the goalies who shoots it the hardest/ who has the best shot/release. Suspect Jim is the answer like Ranta was for his tenure.
I was impressed w how the Gophers turned the momentum in the first period .. changed breakout pattern, started taking the body and controlled the puck in the offensive zone.
I have to admit that Mankato has an awesome forecheck system.

Cooley had a couple face off wins that where as clean and crisp as a pass. The Cows had several face offs where they might of won the face off, but the Gophers came up with the puck.
Keep your stick on the ice...
Faber seems so mature but he can't buy his own beer for another 10.5 months.
Also saw a lot of the Basketball Players at the game which was cool.
I noticed tonight that Cooley really likes to do a reverse hit. When chasing after a puck and a defenseman right behind him, he will get close and throw a shoulder backwards to the defenseman. Really opens up space for him. I’m curious if teams will be pointing that out to officials as interference or they become really aggressive towards him.
Start Close tomorrow
Start Close tomorrow
I don't believe there is any real worry that they won't. Barto got a game because we were playing Lindenwood and Bob wanted to make sure more than one guy on the roster had played in an actual college game.

It's on Twitter... But I'll edit it down in the morning and post the video.
I got Hastings, Motzko & Snuggerud.

That means the only thing to do in Mankato is watch the hockey team. Thought you were smarter than that. 😉
How is that relevant to our fans not showing up for this game? I highly doubt our fans are doing anything of value. Hell most are probably watching.
Sorry that didn't land. Outside the student section it's pick your row here so we don't get to take cheap shots.
Great goal by Snuggy!
Bob's quote on the crowd: "Students section was great, [crowd is] coming back. Gopher have fans never left. They've always been here. Gotta give them reason to come back. And our kids play hard like that people enjoy watching them."

It didn't help that it took the centers about four shifts to understand that you should come off with your linemates after about 40-60 seconds -- seemed like the first time through the lineup the centers all took 90-120 sec shifts.
I am somewhat surprised that the all mighty Little Sandy doesn't wear a letter for Kato. Anyway, a fun night at Mariucci. Where we sit, next to the students, it was loud. Some students had to spill over to our section, which was fine by me. Shame that where we live we don't have access to the game on TV tomorrow. Wally and Frank it will be.

Friday certainly answered a lot more questions than all of last weekend. It definitely looked like MSUM had the age/experience advantage against us, but on top of the early adjustments and surviving the first 4 shifts, it also wasn't like we were skating in molasses for those 4 shifts either.
After Snuggerud's 2nd goal, I so wanted it to lead to a natural hat trick, but MSUM had to get on the board. Oh well, I guess just a hat trick is okay.
Btw the call was for a premature goaltending substitution, which isn't a penalty, but play is called dead. Though did they change the rule for it? I thought the resulting faceoff was supposed to take place at center ice.
First road test Saturday.

No Strobel or Staudacher? I get the D corps is loaded but I really feel like we could have used Strobel’s size and tenacity tonight. Maybe they’re going with speed on the big rink tonight and we’ll see our grittier players tomorrow night on the small ice in Kato?
Strobel is being switched for J Mittlestadt and Staudechar has steep competition with other Mittlestadt and Chesley. There’s competition for key spots and that’s fine by me.
Glad to see Snugs make an immediate huge impact, it was cool to see him score in three different ways too. Close in rebound like Knies, good instinct/shot from the slot/and then a bomb on the PP like Ovi. Looking forward to the game tomorrow!
Cautiously optimistic for game 2 tonight. If they play the way they did last night, they certainly have a chance of completing the sweep. Regardless, good challenge early in the season on the road in a hostile rink like mankato.
Shame that where we live we don't have access to the game on TV tomorrow. Wally and Frank it will be.
FloHockey will have the game for those that cannot get Fox9+

Thanks for the info. I was hoping there would be a free trial for that, but I can't find one. I guess I have all day to decide if I'm going to buy it for $30 for the month. The $150 for the year is interesting.

Thanks, I was eventually smart enough to check your twit page. ?
The Meyers one ended up only being bad for the Motzko portion. Snuggerud and Johnson’s were fine.
Snuggy is gonna be a ton of fun to watch play this year. Great game last night
I feel like we're playing with house money tonight. Should be fun.
Strobel should be back in for Mittelstadt I would think.
What a rocket.

I knew it was a blast from the other end of the rink, but seeing it here, just wow.
We need more of those. A few big cannon shots like that from the blue line every game will make defenders think a bit harder about trying to block every shot from out there
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
I took a low slapshot off the inside of my ankle two months ago in beer league and it’s still swollen. I cannot imagine being hit by a bomb like that. ?
What a rocket.
Pat Micheletti called out the Gophers for a lack of Hard Slap shots from the point, Jimmy answered with a beauty.
Edited post game video.

I think even Snug was surprised at the third goal. His reaction after was so low key, not the usual victory dance. Low key not out of arrogance, but more he couldn’t believe it himself. Teammates were more excited.
Note: Due to inflation dirty deeds will no longer be done dirt cheap.

Same here. Does anyone know what else they have for hockey that would make it worth it? If it is just CCHA then I would just do a month for tonight’s game I guess.
Also, anyone that have it put it on a Firestick to watch in a TV? I haven’t looked for an app or anything yet but just planning ahead if I need to use the web browser like the State Tourney.
I found this regarding Fox9+
You can get it over the air if needed. Simple rabbit ears will work.
Where to find FOX 9+
- Comcast: 10/807
- DirecTV: 29
- DISH: 29
- Mediacom: 10/803
- Over Air: 9.2
- Spectrum: 10

Flohockey has an android app. Otherwise you should use the web browser. I tested it on my fire stick and it looks like the browser works fine.
I hope we see Knies and Cooley on the same line tonight by swapping Knies and Snuggerud. In addition to putting Knies, Cooley & Pitlick together, the swap would form an unstoppable Snuglen Brodz line.
