Gophers have had their season ended twice in a row against these guys. Mankato doesn't have their doping goalie anymore.
I don't like the doping goalie take. Innocent mistake on his part. That being said, yeah, let's take it to the University Of Minnesota At Mankato State A & M College. 😉
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Last year we squeaked by Mercyhurst then ran St. Cloud into the ice for 5 of the 6 periods played that weekend.
Looking for a similar response against Mankato. They’ll have some film to watch of how not to play hockey from tonight. That always helps?
Should be a great series! Time to ramp it up and get this season off to a fast start. Hoping for a good crowd Friday night.
I said it when they first released the schedule: if they market it right it’s a sellout. I believe someone responded with if they price it right it’s a sellout and that still holds up.
I remember after Boston College beat us in the 2012 Frozen Four they game to Mariucci the following year and I’m pretty sure they marketed it as “The Rematch”. Place was packed and the Gophers won 8-1. Still one of the more fun games I’ve been to in (semi) recent memory.
This is what I’m talking about btw. Do this for kato. At the very least creates an atmosphere inside the building.
I know tBob sometimes gets prickly when a reporter asks about a players status, but I hope someone asks about Staudacher or at least sees if he is practicing. I'm not saying he is a top 4 defenseman, but he certainly adds value to the backend. I have a hunch he was ill or banged up for him not to get into at least 1 game.

That's what every failed drug tester says.
Keep your stick on the ice...
@frozen4champs The gophs d core is log jammed. We knew there would be an odd man out yet seeing staudacher not in the lineup still came as a suprise. The team could use 55s experience against the mavs
I get the reason for hyping the game. That's marketing. However, this is no grudge match.
The Cows already won the game that counted more, so this game is just another regular season tilt.

Except for Onterio Smith.... ?
The Whizzinator… lol!!!
Half the fun of having pro teams in town is the stories of players run ins with the law.

I was there for that game too. Such a fun atmosphere.

Disagree. I want revenge! To be back atop Minnesota and THE hockey team to beat. Every game matters. These are a pair I want to win badly! Time to turn the tables.
down with the purple cows!
Yeah, if this isn’t a grudge match then I don’t know what is. They’ve ended our season twice in a row and they haven’t shut up about it since. Which, btw, is what they should do. They should chirp us for knocking us out of the tournament the past two years. I wouldn’t have it any other way. But that just means I want to beat them even more.
Also, I think we see some big hits and some grown man hockey this weekend. I genuinely can’t wait for Friday. Athletic department, get the rink packed and let’s get Mariucci rocking!!
Any word on if Saturday’s game will be picked up by Comcast channel 999 like last years games in grand forks??
I assume we’re just gonna have to pick up a flohockeytv free trial they have all CCHA games.
I couldn't find any other place to post this - how do I download my season ticket to Google Wallet?
I couldn't find any other place to post this - how do I download my season ticket to Google Wallet?
As near as I've been able to figure out, one game at a time.
Open the Gopher app on the phone, go to Tickets > Manager
Open up each ticket, and hit "Add to wallet"
It adds new entries to the wallet to the top of the list, so start with the last games of the season so that the early games are up at the top and easier to find.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Not much needs to be changed lineup wise. Strobel showed he should be dressed every night this season imo. If Staudacher is indeed healthy maybe slot him in for Thomas (Mittelstadt impressed me on Sunday). Obviously Close in net.

Yeah, it's more or less the same process to add tickets to the old Google Pay app last season. Also a notification for each ticket will pop up a few hours before the game, so it's a less of a hassle if you add the tickets in the wrong order.

Saturday’s game is at 6pm. FYI as the calendar subscription says 7pm currently.
6pm? Shoot. Doing a hell-run to WI. Gonna have to tighten that timeline.

Found this while searching for something else. Still seems appropriate and a good way to get fired up for this weekend’s series. Is it Friday yet!!

For all the praise I gave Thomas for Saturday, I thought he had a very rough night Sunday. Nervy decision making at best.
Strobel was great. Very sound hockey player. Huglen and Pitlick look outstanding. High hopes for this weekend. I will be there in Mankato also, never been to a game there.
@mikeeruzione11 Strobel doesn't get a ton of attention but he has a chance to be an outstanding player. He was phenomenal his senior year going into the Tourney. No surprise he looked strong.

I get that CCHA.tv and the home team control Saturday’s game, but Bally’s is airing a UMD/Mankato game in Mankato next weekend, so why can’t they air Saturday’s game?

Wild game on the main channel and it appears college football on the +.

I think Faber wants this one, he even said the word sweep in his response!
Quite a few tickets left for the game on Friday. I know it’s Tuesday afternoon but come on athletic department, get the word out. There isn’t a football game at all this weekend. This should be their main priority.
I don't think the general public is into hockey in early October so I doubt it will be packed no matter what. If they want big crowds they probably should schedule during hockey season.
Maybe, maybe not. But it wouldn’t hurt to market this series well and at least try to get a decent crowd in the building. Other than it being early in the hockey season there isn’t much else you could want from this series. As we’ve mentioned before, it’s a top five match up with the in state rival that’s ended our season twice in a row. Other than it not being in the dead of winter what more do you need? It’s one game, it can’t be that hard to sell $35 tickets to what should be a fun match up.
The U is trying the outdoor pregame thing like they did last spring against Michigan before the B1G title game. It will be in front of Mariucci from 5-7 pm I believe. With the high temp on Friday being around 50, I'm not sure how successful it will be. Have to give them credit for trying.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.

They announced it at the game. I'm sure they will send out something this week as well.

Tickets in section 17 were $60 after fees

$35 (plus fees) is the cheapest and… without getting too much into the weeds let’s just say that you’re prob not gonna get casual walk-in types at that price. I’m willing to pay as someone who watches every game (I got $40 corner seats) but even I was contemplating whether I wanna spend the money or stay home and watch it via my already expensive cable package. And I’m guessing this isnt the most expensive series to attend.

I think the sections opposite the student section are $35. Maybe $3 additional fees. That’s a pretty decent price for this game. Ticket prices for standing room only in Kato on Saturday are $37. $1 cheaper than the cheapest gopher ticket (after fees) at $38.

Definitely agree. Disheartening to see so many seats still available but hopefully a majority of them get gobbled up before the game.

How does that price compare to the rest of their games?
I just looked it up, their average tickets are like $18, Duluth series is $23. Compared to our cheapest ticket of $35 for a good but not too priced opponent.
Not trying to make too much of a point about our prices other than if your goal is to pack the building, this probably isn’t the price point to do it.
I just don’t understand how the U sees Mariucci during the Big Ten championship last year and not know how to attack this Mankato game.
You literally have a cookie cutter of how to sellout the venue. Build hype for the game. Price tickets reasonably. I get they’re not playing for a trophy but there is plenty hype surrounding this series for those who remotely follow college hockey.
It’s a solo game. There’s no football game. This is the main event.
On the positive side of things, you know the student section is going to be jam packed. If I were the U I’d consider opening up another section for the students like last years Michigan game, but I understand that makes those with season tickets in those sections disgruntled.
@trixR4kids I’m not really too concerned with how Mankato prices the rest of their tickets. Because there are certainly cheaper tickets for other opponents against the Gophers. Could the tickets be cheaper for Friday night? Sure. Personally, I don’t think $35-$45 tickets for one game against Mankato is that bad. That’s the price of the tickets in the corners and at the end which is where the majority of tickets are left.
But @maroonandgold hit the nail on the head. The U has a perfect blueprint for how to get a good crowd in the building for one game. Especially when that one game is the only show in town. Create the hype, market the heck out of it. Other people have mentioned that it’s early in the hockey season and the general public doesn’t really have hockey on the mind. So change that! That’s how marketing and advertising works. Flood KFan and other radio stations. Post stuff on social media basically every single day. Do exactly what you did last year for the B1G championship game. Ticket pricing certainly is a factor but other than the tweet a few hours ago about the tailgate we’ve seen basically zilch about this game. I just don’t get it. I don’t get how they can potentially fumble this. But it just looks like another thing the U of M athletic department will miss the mark on. Which would be a real bummer.
I hope I’m wrong. I hope the next few days we see the U really get word out. If so, I will happily eat crow. I guess we’ll see. Sorry for the rant.
Obviously I don’t think the price is thaaaat bad or I wouldn’t have gotten tickets. I’m just responding to the idea that the rink should be full at that price when nobody else in the college or USHL landscape is charging that much and our rink coincidentally is always at partial capacity. The other stuff matters too though I agree.
There are some worried Cow fans here in Mankato after last weeks stinker in Omaha. I don't put any stock in that game since Hastings threw everyone on the roster out on the ice. According to my boss Hasting had to temper the mood at the Friends of Maverick Hockey gathering this week, chicken littles within the crowd I guess. The fans don't have the swagger from the past two years going into this season and they place a lot of that feeling on the lack of McKay. I would point out that the team defense in front of McKay was a larger reason than just one goalie...you try to reason with a Cow fan not nicknamed Viking. ?
As far as what I would like to see this weekend? A sweep obviously. If we can get a split with a top ten team, I'm fine with that also. I also will temper my expectations of this Gopher team until Christmas. They have a tough next month of hockey in front of them so I would love to start it off with a good old drubbing of the Mavs.
I just wish I could see it in person...who schedules a wedding during hockey season? Well...my daughter did, she's worth it though. Go Gophers!
I am the official Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!
Yeah I wouldn’t be horribly disappointed with a split, sweep seems more possible than previous years though. I do think the gophers will play a more serious brand of hockey and clean things up a bit though it’s still very early in the year and mistakes will happen. I guess my main hope is the gophers can outscore some of those and not get bogged down into a slog fest like they typically do against this team. I’d be happy with a 3-2 win or something like that, I don’t expect them to hang 5 on this team though that’s be nice.
Here are some highlights from todays media availability. The whole video should be up on The Rink Live's Facebook page.
