Excellent news on Steve Miller. Seems Motzko had his man early and was able to land him.
Miller is gonna have a fun time with this d group

Good news. I hope they carry the momentum from late last season into this year and show up and be loud.

?SOLD OUT?#Gophers men's hockey student season tickets are sold out for 2022-23

How much more than normal is this? Don't they sell out the student ticket every year? Did they sell more tickets like with that extra section like at the end of the year last year?
tBob is in Montreal for the draft. Wonder if he will be sitting with the Lucius family? :bye:

They sell out every year but I have a feeling they saw that Michigan title game and sold a bit more than usual. At least I hope so.

All good questions. Maybe Vegoe knows the answers. I sit in sect 15, which is next to the student section, and there are only about 40 seats available for purchase. In the last few years, the section may have only been 30% sold. We have been the only STH in our row for years. So, I'm not sure id these seats are being held for overflow students or what.

Now all they have to do is lower ticket prices to what their competitors charge for home games
Aloha!
Keep your stick on the ice...
It will be interesting to see where all of our prospects go the next couple of days. Cooley will go between 2-5. Snuggerud stock has been all over the board, as I have seen him as early as #10, but mostly in the early 20's. Chesley has been listed anywhere from 20 to 35 and Rinzel the same. I think who ever drafts Kurth tomorrow will get a steal. One of the most anticipated drafts for Gopher recruits in years.

Snuggerud to the Blues with pick 23
Chesley will have to wait until Friday for his name to be called.

Honestly shocked Chesley didn’t go first round
IMO, I don't put much stock into the NHL Entry Draft. All 32 teams have lists what they think is the Top 100 players and all 32 have different lists. The NHL isn't like the NBA or NFL where teams pick more on need and not who's the best for their team in the coming season. The NHL, majority of the time teams just pick who they think is the overall best or they will become the best overall in 3-5 years, not the immediate need. The talking heads last night on ESPN got a bit annoying with their analysis of each player.
Keep your stick on the ice...
Chesley goes 37th to the Capitals
And Kurth goes to the Lightning 6th round
Mittelstadt goes undrafted for a second year
Surprised no one would take a chance on him in the 7th round when the risk is minimal.
So….
I was looking at my tickets in the Gopher App. As I scrolled past our football tickets, our hockey tickets of course aren’t in there yet.
BUT…
2022-23 B1G hockey championship tickets WERE there. Same seats as our season seats.
Accident, or included this season?
Lots of Gophers attending their drafted teams developmental camps this week. Undrafted Jaxon Nelson is at the Capitals camp. Glad a team is giving him a look. Some teams have not announced their rosters yet, so am waiting to see if Ryan Johnson or Jackson LaCombe attend their drafted teams camps.

What would be the reasoning for Johnson or LaCombe to not attend their drafted teams camps?

Maybe an indication that they will choose to become free agents instead of signing with them?

College kids have to pay their own way for everything at these camps. Plus, I'm not sure if it's an actual rule, but a lot of the teams only have prospects attend two camps.
Johnson and Huglen are listed on the now released Buffalo camp roster.

Including flight, hotel & meals for players the NHL team have selected in the draft?
Mittelstadt goes undrafted for a second year
I don't understand this. I have to admit, outside of a few clips I have never seen the kid play but his 2021-22 scoring performance of 19 goals, 36 assists and 55 points for a defenseman is really incredible. I counted, and in the last 20 years of USHL play a defenseman has only scored 55 points or more 8 times and only 3 have scored 19 goals in a season, and only one defenseman has scored more than 19.
I assume that his defensive work and size work against him in the NHL evaluation, but a guy that nets 19 goals has to have a very solid shot.
I think this is a great benefit to the U of M program though. I think it gives them time to develop the kid and he would not be the first undrafted recruit that went on to a more than solid career.

When I watched him in high school, I thought he was very solid but not eye popping at all. Let's hope he makes solid advances each year.
FWIW, LaCombe is at the Ducks development camp.

I believe Nate Schmidt also went undrafted and has been doing rather well in the NHL. NHL GMs just may want to wait and see how he plays against men.
I thought I saw a tweet about the number of goals he got on the PP. How many of those goals were PP goals?

Just got an email about this. They are separate. Tix are $70 per seat for STH for the tourney. They are in our current location, so it appears they will not move us like last year.

For comparison, Nate Schmidt scored 37 points (14-23) in 2009-10 for Fargo Force at basically the same age and same USHL experience.
I am not sure how to evaluate the PP goals. 13 of Mittelstadt's 19 goals were on the power play. That is a very high percentage of his goals but that shows he is an active guy on the PP with a good shot by USHL standards.
As I said, I think this is good for the U of M program because it will give them a development year for him and they can take his progress slower.
So we start the season against Lindenwood. With all due respect, that should be a pretty straightforward sweep. But then we’re right in the thick of it the next weekend with a home and home against Mankato. We don’t know yet who we’re playing the next weekend but then the weekend of the 21 & 22 North Dakota is in town. I’m curious to see who we play that weekend in between Mankato and North Dakota. I’m assuming it’ll be against a B1G team since it looks like all of our non conference series are set. Part of me kind of hopes it’s against Penn State. Just as long as it’s not Michigan.

Luke’s a good player & once Faber, Johnson & LaCombe depart after 22-23 he will see plenty of ice time. This year he likely dresses as the 7th D. He will likely be a good D1 defenseman. Beyond that, who knows?
No decision has been etched in stone yet, but Johnson is leaning towards coming back. In a recent interview, tBob indicated that Ryan is coming back.

Can hope some of these guys within the yotes and Buffalo orgs stay a little longer as they’re total dumpster fires.
Obviously the chance to play pro hockey is incredible and I wouldn’t blame anyone for jumping at the chance to do so. But I really hope he does come back, continue to improve on his game and win a national championship with the best D corps in the country. I mean the chance to have an important, veteran role with that defensive unit and to get to work with this assistant coach should be reason enough to come back for one more crack at winning the whole darn thing.
BTN is showing Gophers/Mich 2015 title game now.
Is there any chance Cooley just signs with Arizona this summer and doesn’t even make it to campus? Should we be worried about that possibility or is that unlikely?

He better not, It’s been 40 years now and I’m still not entirely over Phil Housley.
Forgive my ignorance, that was well before my time. Is that what happened with Housley?
Yes
Another tidbit on Johnson from the Sabres beat writer from camp.
3. Two other defensemen who stood out, especially during the three-on-three portion of the week, were Ryan Johnson and Mats Lindgren. Both possess the type of skating ability and offensive skill to impact the game in the offensive zone. Johnson is leaning toward heading back to Minnesota and could become a free agent next spring. The Sabres should be making every effort to get him under contract because he showed plenty of potential. Buffalo should appeal to Johnson because there is a path to ice time. Lindgren, a fourth-round pick this year, made some dazzling plays in the scrimmage. He’ll be fun to watch as he continues his development.

Can someone from Buffalo call Ryan Johnson and say the same?
