Knies is a grown man right now. He might be a danger to the other college player's health at 25.
Assuming that the coach may give the Lucius/Lucius/Kurth combo a go since they have experience together from Gentry…?
Cooley, Knies and who Huglen?

Possibly. Snuggerud a good option too
How long has Pinoniemi been committed to Bob? Seems like he could’ve played 4 years at the U and been gone by now.

He committed to Bob at SCSU in 2016 as a 15 year old. Flipped with Bob to Mn in 2018

Put it this way, him and Brinkman played in the same All-American Prospects game?
I’m excited for Pinoniemi, I think he might be the Huglen of the class.

Are the Lucius boys coming next year? Wasn't the rumor they were pissed we got Cooley?

Hahaha. Got it

Look back. Yes.
Will be interesting to see who comes back and leaves. Think Knies is back as Leafs will with the cheap contract versus him getting another year to develop and slot into the top 6 for a postseason run the next season (they’re fine this year).
On D, wonder if some teams will see the last game and be worried about all the guys ability to play the body. Faber will be most likely to go followed by Lacombe IMO. I’d imagine we lose those 2 with the rest back
Can’t imagine any way Meyers is back
Who is in goal.
Who is in goal.
It’s close job to lose, right?
It’s Close’s job to lose at the moment. I’d imagine they get Barty a few looks early. Possibly Boynton too but idk what the deal with him is.
If any one of LaCombe or Johnson returns that’s just bonus but we’ll be fine without them. Faber and Meyers gone. Knies I believe will be back.
Knies better be back. And he better have evened out.
Who is in goal.

Yes I’m more just hoping they find a backup who challenges him and plays competently or even takes over the position if good enough. If Bartowski is that guy then that’s fine by me, I just know nothing about him.

The Gophers need a good MN goalie. One that can stop simple wrap around shots.

If this was true, the Sioux would be all over it by now.

What's on first.
I don't know.
Rube told me that's typical
So this was a one line team that got only as far as they did because of Close (yes both of these claims have been argued) and are set to lose a handful of their best players early, but next year they're going to suddenly have so much depth they don't need 5th year guys that can offer leadership and experience to come back. Huh.
It’s more a matter of who the fifth year guys are, their respective roles, and whether they’d be holding back elite first round talent that could inject the team with much needed talent. And there’s a part of me that doesn’t need to see some of these same guys come back for a fifth year and take on Mankato a third time, I don’t see it ending any differently if they just give it a go with the same top six forward group.
The Top 6 will be different even if they come back, and I'm aware of who the 5th year guys in question are. I'm not even arguing the team necessarily needs them back. I'm more mocking the ludicrous tear down of the team because of one loss.
It’s not one loss though, they lost to the same team last year and looked listless against Michigan a few weeks prior (and more games than not against them this year), not to mention the struggle to beat in-state opponents or consistently put together games needed to beat tourney teams (they were about .500 against teams that made the NCAA’s). Not bad but not exactly dominant. If the goal is improvement and not clearly being the underdog of the frozen four, I don’t really see how bringing back guys like Walker and Brodzinski to play in the top six and underperform on the PP and disappear against higher end teams is going to result in that.
Unless Meyers wants to come back or something unexpected happens I kinda doubt any of the fifth year guys will be back so it’s probably a moot point anyhow.
I'll repeat I wasn't arguing those guys need to be back.
I'm just going to leave this out here....
Twenty-one years ago, the Gopher coaching staff convinced a highly sought after young man to forego the NHL for one year and play his senior year under the premise of "unfinished business". The next year, that young man led the team to a national championship and won the Hobey Baker award. Ben Meyers has the opportunity to be the Jordan Leopold of his generation.
If someone could forward this to Ben Meyers, I would appreciate it. Thank you.
Yes, I know that's a pipe dream, but you can't blame a guy for wishful thinking...

Why do people keep referring to Brodzinski like he is a senior and will be leaving?
I am the official Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!
Why do people keep referring to Brodzinski like he is a senior and will be leaving?
Because he hasn't lived up to SOME people's expectations as they expected him to score 20-25 goals a year. For me, I hope he comes back. He also seems like a great team mate.

I would agree with this as well. Also, I thought that the Brodz family and tBob have a pretty strong connection? Anyway, he has one more year and I think he has earned his spot on this team and he just had his best year statistically this season.

Plus the fact if we want to get older, it doesn't make sense to have our juniors leave if they are not going pro.

There are freshmen or transfer portal guys that can contribute more overall than him.
Gophers of course need to be going after Ashton Calder
He should be a 4th liner max next year

Simply put, he's the whipping boy du jour. Kinda like Chris Harrington was back in 2002-2006.

Agree with this take. The getting older idea depends on “role”. If you’re a heavy team looking to grind, definitely get older. Bringing back “skill” guys who can’t beat a tight checking team because they can’t win on the boards or in open ice won’t lead to success. I’d take Blake back as he’s a physical player and can fit that role. Sammy less so

We do not of course need to be going after him just stop. You love the Sioux so much it’s crazy.

Aside from the whipping boy part, I don't see the analogy. Harrington was a good, utility-knife-type player (like Andy Brink) who played a pretty solid game night in night out. The fans who suffered the irreversible trauma of witnessing a few of his mistakes wanted more and never let up on the criticism.
Brodzinski, on the other hand, came in as a Mr. Hockey winner, and we were told he might be the best Brodzinski yet. Well, it turns out he's a wee slow footed and in his three years here hasn't contributed nearly to the degree that his pedigree would suggest.

Brodzinski had to come in straight from high school though as Bob rushed him in to get his guys in for a rebuild that’s turned into 2 (should be 3)banners and a Frozen Four.
Juniors would’ve helped Bryce but what’s interesting is he scored about a point per game in the small stint he played Senior year.
I'm more mocking the ludicrous tear down of the team because of one loss.
It wasn't just one loss. It's the same exact loss as last year. What really concerns me is that I don't think we could ask for a better D corp, and yet they were helpless against that relentless forecheck.
It feels like we will go to the portal for a dmen or two. We already have a logjam at forward so don’t really see a forward added from the portal.
My gut also says we have a new goalie next year as well. Just doesn’t feel like Boynton will stay.
Fish good enough to be a 6 D man next year?
Fish good enough to be a 6 D man next year?
Yes they’re planning on it
So for sure Koester, Staudacher and Fish.

The defense may not have had their best night, but when you play a highly structured team like UMD or Mankato, they are going to play defense first and react to their opportunities. Every time Mankato got the puck deep and felt they had a chance to come out with it they had two guys go into the boards to fight for the puck and brought in a third guy high looking for the crumbs. Any defenseman is going to lose a lot of those battles, and the team's forwards have to commit to playing goal line to goal line. They didn't execute that too well this week.
Motzko knows more about the game than I ever will, but it felt like his coaching influence was near zero in that game, given that the outcome was pretty much a carbon copy of last year's game.
I would be shocked if all 3 of Faber, LaCombe and Johnson leave. I think we get one for sure and maybe two back so that leaves us:
LaCombe or Johnsons
Staudacher
Koster
Fish
Chelsey
Thomas

Also thought I saw somewhere that transfers have to be signed by May 1 to be eligible right away next year. That means lots could be figured out in the next couple weeks.
Middlestadt's?
