It is hard to teach what Brodzinski is good at. If he plays with linemates who like to have the puck.. all he needs to do is get open and he can rip it.

Jack Perbix to the portal… Discuss.
I respect the effort but in order for this team to get deeper some of these lower impact guys kinda needed to move on. Obviously I don’t expect huge scoring from the fourth line and it’s hard to accurately measure defensive impact in college hockey without advanced stats (like if they shut down the other team’s top line or what have you). But guys like Perbix and Sorensen were pretty invisible a lot of the time.
Sad because I like his effort and grit, but totally understand as it would have been hard for him to see top 6 minutes next year.
Maybe he'll reconsider, but I wish him nothing but the best.
The Gophers now could have potentially 7 freshmen forwards coming in out of the 16 or 17 forwards on the roster. Cooley, Kurth, Snuggerud, Lucius, Strobel, Pinoniemi, Mittelstadt. I still see either Pino or Mittlestadt not coming in and a portal guy instead.
The defense could see 3 freshman defensemen coming in - Mittelstadt, Chesley and Thomas. If the goalie situation stays the same, Boynton and Owen Bart... are essentially freshmen as well.
That is a lot of freshmen on the roster, although they are extremely talented.

I’m very excited about the talent we’re bringing in but are we in any danger of losing guys who, while albeit are probably less talented, are at least vets experienced in the college game? Don’t we want a good mix of young talent and older, experienced players that can guide the younger guys? I mean, what upperclassmen are left at forward? Maybe I’m just being a total worry wart but we always hear how we have to get older and yet we’re losing two upperclassmen role players who work their buts off.
As Guentzel said I don’t think older has as much impact as some think it does. Do we really think a 26 year old Perbix or even Walker is going to make the team better than a 19 year old Bjugstad?
Last year’s team was deep compared to most of the B1G with Michigan being the obvious exception, they were definitely deeper (and I think younger) than the gophers as were the other frozen four teams and the same could probably be said about Duluth. The gophers did ok against tourney teams but I wanna say they were .500 in those games or maybe even worse, propped up by their record vs Notre Dame which was a low end tourney team. And outside of Meyers there just weren’t many upper classmen forwards who had a big impact in those games, Knies outplayed all of them in fact.
So I’m not to worried about getting younger when the older guys weren’t exactly lighting the world on fire last year, Meyers non withstanding of course.
Bullhockey on age not mattering.
Yeah I’ll trust Mike Guentzel, Mel Pearson, and whoever Denver’s coach is on this one
Think it will be interesting to see how this roster gels. We will assuredly have enough talent but will they have the grit (and willingness to hit anyone) that it takes, especially in the post season? I’ll be interested to see what we end up looking like but we’re definitely losing some grinder types this off-season
Yeah I’ll trust Mike Guentzel, Mel Pearson, and whoever Denver’s coach is on this one
Checking the average age of NC teams vs. the others the past decade would surely bear that out.

Strobel and Mittelstadt won’t see the ice, but every other one of those are high enders. Yes we’ll be young but we should be pretty stinkin good.

You just used trust and Mel Pearson in the same sentence :ddown:
From Chris Peters newsletter
Where is the buzz? For all we know he's reading the nonsense on here.
Not surprised at all about Perbix. He like 22 so often did nothing in games.
Who is Chris Peters? Should we care about what he has to say?
Who is Chris Peters? Should we care about what he has to say?
He is often an excellent source on prospects. Current players? Not so much.
I didn’t read the article this rumor was from, but does it actually make sense big picture? There’s been whispers on this board the last few months that Lucius was unhappy, but with his brother coming in next year and having another stacked team, why would he leave?
This was posted on here before. I know that Chaz isn't going to tell Jess in Boston that he was going to leave, so you just have to take his word on what he told Jess.

Raboin listed as a top candidate at Augie.

That would open the spot for Paul Martin to slide into. Maybe this has turned into the plan with him being on the bench so much this year...
I love Paul Martin, and he is one of my top 10 favorite Gophers of all time. That said, not sure if I want one of our assistant coaches as someone who's only prior coaching experience is 2 years of being a grad assistant. He has had zero recruiting experience either. But, I would guess it would be up to tBob on how he feels about it and if he would feel confident with the staff being Ben and Paul if Garrett leaves. I do think Garrett will leave at some point to be a head coach. I know Grant Potulny was promoted by Lucia under similar circumstances so I guess it is not unprecedented. Also, does P Mart want to be a full time college coach?

Guessing with this being a holiday weekend we won't have much of anything on the news front. But according to my wife, I've been wrong before.

I think you underestimate what PMart could bring to the role.
He was always known as a very smart player (which usually projects well into being able to teach) and he has major credibility as a well known NHL player. You could do a lot worse than to have your position coach be a 10+ year NHL veteran at that position.
He's personable, he's been resilient when faced with life challenges, he's been a good promoter/supporter of the program, and he's could certainly bring an attractive profile with prospective players.
If Potulny can do it and eventually find himself in a D1 head coaching job, I have no doubt Paul Martin can do it if that's what he wants to do.
But there certainly won't be any shortage of really good options should Raboin move on.
Not sure Paul Martin wants to spend his time recruiting according to one of bobs season ticket holder talks
:M: Hot damn!!!

Can it be October yet?! Please! :yahoo:
I am the official Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Johnson back too now. I like that whoever is running the social media is making a big deal out of the players returning. It used to be all hush hush, but get it out there and promote your players and the team.
Some people on here have to eat a lot of crow this season with their incorrect speculation.

Which is why I made sure to say "if that's what he wants to do" 🙂
Johnson is all that’s left right? (Technically Walker is still an option I guess) I bet Johnson comes back now with 14 and 2 back.
:good: I think these guys smell a championship next season.
The little one is excited to hear about LaCombe!!!
Keep your stick on the ice...
Johnson-Faber
Staudacher-LaCombe
Koster-Chesley
Best d core since??
Also 55 better work hard over the off season cause there’s no reason Fish, Mittelstadt and Thomas can’t play over him.
If Johnson comes back, I would imagine that tBob would dress 7 defensemen as he may want Mittelstadt to run one of the PP's as he is piling up the PP points this year in the USHL.

Looking good for next season.
I didn’t realize LaCombr was a senior. If so, doesn’t that mean he can delay signing next year and become an UFA?
Knies, Faber, and LaCombe back. More than we could have imagined. If Johnson comes back the D could carry them a long way next year. :M2:

I would bet on Chesley forcing Staudacher down the lineup.
Brilliant news!
Just a little line chart I put together what has been announced, still waiting on what Johnson decides and the potential that Walker returns is there too. Curious if Cal Thomas comes in this year, thinking the Johnson decision will factor in on that.

Faber is your captain. If Walker comes back it would have to be without the C.

Can you honestly say with a straight face that in any reality Bob would strip Sammy of the C

It should be a moot point

That’s correct, same for Johnson, J22 covered this earlier in the thread.
I tried quoting Skiumah but it doesn’t look like it worked. All I was gonna say is maybe flip Bryce and Cruz to pair the skill brothers and to make 22-24-18 the vet line. Also all the wings handedness is flipped, but maybe that’s intentional?.

Obviously with no idea what scholarship money looks like, but if Johnson comes back we might see Staudacher to portal. Getting Lacombe, Knies, Faber back is way more than I was expecting. Fired up for next season.
Still would like to see us do something with goaltending. Where does Close rank in Big10 goalies?? I say probably 5th at best. We can do better.
