Do I like the Lucius family? Not really. Do we get to claim Chaz as a Gopher? Yes.
Agreed. Not sure why on Earth we wouldn’t be “allowed” to claim him as a Gopher. He WAS a Gopher. I’m with Jess on this one, and I’m not a fan of the family.

For me it is about wording. Yes, I agree he obviously played for the Gophers, but on this world jr team to me he is a FORMER Gopher, so I don't look at him in the same light on this team as Cooley, Snuggy, Mittelstadt and Chesley, as after the tourney he is not coming back to our team. I'm not going to lose sleep over it, and I can see how others still choose to see him as a Gopher. I hope he has a great tourney to help Team USA win, but to me my feelings for the 4 current Gophers are much stronger than the 1 former Gopher.

I think that is a very fair way to look at it. I feel the same as you.
Don’t have a game thread to throw this in, so putting it here.
The home game against St Cloud has potential to be a sellout. Pretty exciting. I think the atmosphere in St. Cloud Saturday will also be great. Already looking forward to that weekend.
436 tickets left.
302 now.
The game in St. Cloud also looks like it will be a sell out. EDIT: Looks like more available tickets were added to their website, but I still think it will be a sellout

Awesome! I’ll be going to both. Should be a really fun series.
Anyone know if the game Thursday will at least be on the radio?
From what I see, only BTN+ coverage.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Does anyone going to the game have a BTN login they’d be willing to share? I can only watch from 3-4 and I’d rather not pay for a month when all I can see is an hour. 😉
Couple interesting tidbits:
1. Bob basically confirmed Staudacher is redshirting. He is unable to skate in exhibitions because of it
2. LaVelle Neal was there asking questions
3. LaVelle asked about the Cooley-Snuggy-Knies line and how they stacked up to his best lines he ever coached- Bob smirked and said something like "lets get them all back next year and they can prove it on the ice". I like the way Bob isn't shy about saying there is no rush for players to leave college, and he is 100% correct.
A couple of other notes--
Bob already has nicknames for Moore ( Ollie ) and Hendrickson ( Hendy )
Knies will skate with Pino and Kurth
Nate Schmidt spoke to the team today.
Knies was amazed to see outdoor rinks. Says he needs to try that before the end of the year.

Interesting to hear about Staudacher. So that basically confirms he’ll be here next year. As I understand it, it’s a redshirt year plus the given Covid 5th year. So if he wants to he could play in the 2024-25 season with Eiserman and those guys?
172 tickets for the game against St. Cloud. Will a 3pm puck drop on a Sunday with the Vikings playing the Bears keep anyone away? I hope not because that game and the atmosphere will hopefully be bonkers. Potentially even rivaling the UND weekend.

I blame the B1G that there are 172 tickets left ?

If it was a 7pm puck drop on a Saturday and it was airing on FSN with Frank and the Wooger on the call and instead of the year being 2022 it was in the early to mid 2000s and the moon was lined up just right causing the tides to come in at the right height then it would sold out and standing room only and there wouldn’t be 172 tickets left.

It should be a great crowd and great atmosphere. The student section will be interesting though, because school doesn't start back up until January 17th

Hopefully enough students that are either from the suburbs or live in off campus housing (so most sophomores - seniors) make an effort to come back for the game. The fact that it is just one game will probably help.

Hopefully, no school doesn't mean no band!

Totally agree, the band is outstanding.
A couple things as we begin the second half:
Gopher fans, enjoy this team. They could stay stagnant and probably remain the best team in the country but all signs point to them making a jump in the 2nd half. They’re something special.
Two names that I think will make the largest statistical jump in the second half are Huglen and Kurth. I think Kurth will reach the 10 goal mark.
Brodzinski had 9 goals at the break last year as well and finished with 12. Can he keep it going this year?
Lastly I think Knies is going to emerge as a true Hobey contender in the second half (to be fair, everyone on that line is probably)
Year in review from Jess
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
Brodzinski should be fine now that he isn’t playing against top lines and plays on a line that makes sense.
69 tickets remaining for Sundays game against St. Cloud. Last chance to buy if you want to be there! Keep those huskies out of our building
Bob pulled up to the Hendrickson's cabin on his pontoon for his recruiting pitch.

What about the accelerated schooling... I wonder what's the thought process and how that fits in with Bob's plan?Bob pulled up to the Hendrickson's cabin on his pontoon for his recruiting pitch.
I think the NTDP makes it work for you. If you have a weird birthday and come into the program after your freshman year of high school and/or second year of Bantams (Faber, Hendrickson, currently Laurila just to name a few) the NTDP can figure out your schooling so that you can be playing college hockey the year after your U18 season.

I think that probably tops my story of Bob taking off his skates in the penalty box to walk into the stands to talk to Strobel. When Bob is on a recruiting mission neither water or ice will stop him.

Totally random scheduling idea I had. Bob said that he likes the exhibitions this time of year because it’s good to get games in even while missing a handful of guys. What if we played St. Thomas yearly around this time in exhibition play at local high school rinks kinda like last year? I can think of plenty of venues where that would be a really fun idea (Aldrich, Parade, Braemar off the top of the dome).
Two weeks out and there’s already only 535 tickets left for the Friday night game vs Michigan. It feels like the fan base and the city is finally really buying into the buzz around this team. Let’s hope they go on a run here and make this season one to remember.

Hard not to buy in, this team is special. Hang one banner at a time. Right now the focus should be on winning the Big Ten. Should be a fun ride to the finish.

That will be a crazy weekend at Mariucci.
Wish I could be there and I suspect there will be a lot of phone checks from the eagle family since @Youngeagle chose the u-mi weekend to get married!
In his defense, they had the date set months before the B1G released the hockey schedule and he knew it was a crapshoot.

Fall and winter weddings are always tough with football and hockey on the weekends so you just never know. But definitely a very good problem to have. Hope it’s a fun wedding!

First person I offered them too.
He may even get to meet super lurker Cliff, our seat neighbor.

@greyeagle In my defense Jan 21 is better than April 8th when the U squares off against whoever will be 2nd in college hockey this year. ?

Ever hear of April 15th?@greyeagle In my defense Jan 21 is better than April 8th when the U squares off against whoever will be 2nd in college hockey this year. ?
I have no idea what this year will produce, but this is the type of season that solidifies (as if it ever wavered) why this is the one team in all of sports that is my favorite. Although fb and bb are also way up there.
I don't know if I've ever shared this story here, but my family moved from Edina to Deephaven when I was 6. Not long after my dad was diagnosed with cancer and at the time the prognosis was not good. My mom didn't sugar coat anything and let all 3 of us kids know his prognosis. It was a huge blow and it did feel like I was at a loss.
During that time I became best friends with a kid named Tommy, who's father was a very prominent lawyer and former U of M grad. He and/or his law firm had Gophers season tickets to fb, bb and hockey.
I was already a huge fan of Gophers athletics at that young age thanks to my dad (even though his own personal love for college sports was at Gustavus due to his own personal ties there) and Tommy's dad picked up on it. As such he would invite me to a handful of fb, bb and hockey games per year as he thought it would be good therapy and to take my mind off of what my dad was going through.
Thank God my dad pulled through (and is now still kicking nearly 50 years later) but those days getting up close an personal with the players, the coaches and of course Goldy are memories I will never forget.
As badly as I want the program to win another title I am just grateful to have the love and affection that I do, and I am going to live and die maroon and gold. Having 2 sons attending there and having become huge fans in their own right is icing on the cake.
Anyway what inspired me to tell this is that this current team is incredibly inspiring regardless of what they will accomplish. The maroon and gold, and the M live on. Forever.
SKI-U-MAH!!

Many years ago I saw a meme that was called something like the man's guide to getting married and planning a baby. It pretty much was calendar that had dates to get married and getting pregnant.
Keep your stick on the ice...
Who gets married during Gophers hockey season? I blame the parents.
One of my best friends got married during the Gopher Hockey season. One of the best wedding I've been to and apart of. And the only person who had something to say about it, was the 'ultimate single man for life' of a UND fan... Dirty or whatever his name is.

Cool story Slap Shot.
One of my earliest sports memories was sitting in one of the corners of old Mariucci with my dad and watching the Gophers play (some time in the mid to late 1970s during the Herbie era). In fact, the painting of old Mariucci by Terrance Fogerty pretty much has the same view I had that day (in that same corner but a little closer to the nearest blue line). Goldy's perch, etc. I remember I was cold too. It didn't have the same creature comforts of today... but it built character. 😉
It is important to give kids exposure to these Gopher sporting events.
110% loved that post... love it!!!

Great story and even better outcome, Slap!!
Hammy, you were probably close enough to me to smack me in the head. Our seats were basically on the faceoff dot about where the pitch of the seats began to increase. One of the cool parts was the press box was above us and they used an overhead projector (you youngsters can look that one up) to post scoring, penalties, out of town scores, etc. If an out of town score was in the Gophers favor you could here the small group who could see the screen clap or get excited while the rest of the arena had to wait for the announcement. It was basically our 70s and 80s smart phone!
Amazingly the couple who sat behind us on those days are still our seat neighbors to this day. He's a long time lurker on this site (Hi C.A.) and enjoys the banter we have here.

When I attended the U (and for years after) my buddy and I were die hard fans and had season tickets together. When he got married I was a groomsman. He had his grooms dinner the night of the 2002 national championship. I was the only one in the wedding group that did not attend the grooms dinner until AFTER the game was over. I missed half the night but he clearly understood and I was excused.
After the game I drove to the dinner, we had a big hug, and life restarted.
He's lucky the wedding date did not conflict. Kidding.....not kidding.

My earliest memories are of Gopher Football and basketball games. My dad always took me to those and when he had press passes it was even better! Apparently one basketball game I was giving Sid the business as a kid 😉 (also did that much later on when he tried stealing beer from my bar)
I was never the hockey guy, that was my friend growing up. He literally cried when the '96 team lost. He had the sweet Gold Jersey from back then and I always wanted it after I got into hockey at the U. He went to SCCC...I had a lot of fun going up there to games. My first legit Gopher Hockey game I was in the student section at SCCC hiding my Gopher Jersey because they legit would have beaten me up if they saw it. (only a couple knew I was a Gopher) Then I went to the Final Five at TC and a different buddy convinced me to get season tickets my sophomore year and...well. First game I saw at Mariucci we upset #1 Boston College thanks to Nate Miller.
