Madison is only four hours away and I have a hard time believing it would be difficult to get a ticket. Put on your gold and go to the games, and help us ruin their stripes! (Not sure how that would turn out anyways when nobody goes to the games). ?
I came here to post this exact thing. It isn't that far of a drive. The weather will be favorable for no coat. Plenty of seats are still available.....in the 100 level.Madison is only four hours away and I have a hard time believing it would be difficult to get a ticket. It is on our to do list, but because every home game is a road trip for us, there is only so much vacation days my wife has. Maybe next year since the Frozen Four is in STP and we won't have to burn as many days for that. We are definitely jealous of all the people going on true "road" trips and hope everyone has fun and have a beer for us.

I totally would if I didn’t have a commitment Saturday morning. I was there last year! For now I’ll just have to whine about tv coverage like old times.
I’d like to see Strobel-Schmidt-Lamb be the 4th line on Friday. It’s been awhile since Strobel has been in the lineup and I bet he’d come out with some extra jump knowing his family history with Wisconsin.
The only problem is that leaves Lamb with no real skill players around him. If Bob wants to go full skill mode, I think Pino-Mitts-Lamb is the way to go. Can Bob even take Pino out of the lineup with 2 goals in his last 2 games? We’ll find out.
From Bob's radio show--
Week off was good because they had a couple of guys with some minor dings.
Briefly discussed the standings that are bunched up.
Need our depth to score.
Tinkering with the bottom 2 lines to find right combo
Talked about Close, and how good he has been.
BADgers will be celebrating 2 National championship teams this weekend. That should provide for more fans in the stands.
Theme this week is don't take the BADgers lightly
Discussed the top line and how good they have been. The week off was good for them.
Nothing too much new from this show.

I'm personally not a road trip person, but would encourage people to go since opportunities have gotten few and far between. I would ask that anyone who does go to do a lot of pointing and laughing on my behalf.

That's more likely tickets sold, but even if not they're only hitting 49% of capacity which should leave plenty of tickets available. Although vs. Minnesota I imagine availability goes down a bit.

It is tickets sold. Just like Mariucci. Only games you could say were packed were MI and MSU Mariucci can be a dead zone at times. You have to remember for the Kohl Center this year they blocked off the 300 section but that is still going against they overall capacity When full that places fits 17k

And North Dakota and St. Cloud
Sorry I was thinking just conference games
I Looked up the attendance stats on USCHO.
North Dakota, Wisconsin, & Minnesota are the top 3 almost every year. See below for the 3 program's year by year trend.
*Note this is tickets sold, so it doesn't factor in the no shows.
*2014 had the Gopher TCF Bank outdoor game boost the gopher's Home attendance #s. Wisconsin and ND also had outdoor games impact their #s.
https://www.uscho.com/stats/attendance/division-i-men/
Notes
- A bit Surprised to see Wisconsin have more tickets sold than Gophers in most years.
- Wisconsin with the large max capacity has bigger swings in its numbers year to year.
-Wisconsin is at a new low of 48% of capacity so far this year which seems really bad.... but the 7,431/game is still 1,000 ahead of Denver for third most overall.
- North Dakota attendance hasn't had any major dips.
- Western teams consistently dominate the average attendance #s . Most years had the first Eastern team show up around 10th-12th.
Boston does very well for itself as a college hockey town considering fan loyalty is so split.

15,000 max for hockey

True, but I was surprised to see Boston University in the 4K-5K range for attendance. I always viewed them as the "big" school out east but they are actually a bit smaller than Boston College.

Out East that is big. They don't have the large swaths of wide open spaces like the West does. Think of how many college teams there are just in the area in and around Boston.
Yes. Tomorrow we head to Ho Chunk and I will likely get my money taken in swift fashion. I really enjoy the tradition, but I have never faired well on the casino floor. I am feeling tomorrow will be a beer night. A little Spotted Cow and a lot of Moon Man.@bertogliat Are you still doing the tradition of Thurs Casino night? BTW Kathy still owes you an old fashioned.
Hoping their multi year construction project is finally complete. It seems every year is a sh!t show and the service is bad. But we'll be 45 minutes from State Street when the sun rises and we found the best breakfast place ever.
SAAAAAYYYYY Wisconsin.....You've lost it all!

Just peeking at some stats.
It seems the red cheaters like to take a lot of penalties and is not so good at defending once they are down a man.

If anyone is still wondering, Friday's game will indeed be on channel 669-1 (BSWI Extra) for DirecTV in the Twin Cities market.

From media availability today--
Bob--
Not a bad time for the weekend off.
They have been sharp all week.
Said Snuggy was tired right after the Juniors.
Dead set against 7 teams in a conference. You beat people up too much.
Schmidt gives them a Perbix type of presence.
The chemistry on the bottom 2 lines is coming.
Will continue to keep mixing it up.
Guys are excited about playing the BADgers
Our fans have been terrific. Hope some travel to Madison.
Sounds like Koster will play.
Talked about the guys who came back. Came back for the M and their teammates. Didn't have to convince any of them to do so.
Cool to see the guys wear their letterman's jackets around campus. Finally came in after a 2 year delay.
Farm Kid was next--
Everyone is ready to go.
Try to be consistent this weekend.
They are really fast on the rush.
Ridder makes the transition easier when playing on smaller rinks.
Talked about the crowd.
Faber was last--
Did the polar plunge on the break.
Wisc. is the games they dream of as kids.
May leave tonight because of the incoming snow.
They love Moe, but it is fun to score on him.
Feels like playoff hockey.
Would mean more winning the banner against BADgers. But, that is not the banner they are looking for.
Talked about watching the Wild is different than when he wasn't part of the organization. But, for now he is still a Gopher.

What exactly did he mean by this? I don't disagree that 7 is a weird number but why would that beat people up too much?

My guess is that having 8 teams you would most likely not have to play every team 4 times and have more of a rotating schedule. But when Bob goes on a rant, it is sometimes tough to follow what he means. ?

Damn right

I have no idea what he meant by that path of conversation... having a team get a bye in the conference tournament only really comes into play as an advantage when you can avoid the three games in three days situation for an auto-bid, but having to sit out a weekend when it's playoff time isn't necessarily an advantage. I think most coaches would prefer a home series, a conference tournament neutral site and then into the NCAAs. Although it could just be an easy excuse to explain rust when the rest and results don't matchup.
It’s not ideal because if we get the bye then lose the semifinal… we get championship weekend off, then the next weekend, then it’s regionals. Not a lot of games keeping you sharp.
Edit: I don’t remember if there’s a weekend off in between championship weekend and regionals but I remember there being one.
There isn't a week off after the conference championship. I think coaches complaint with the 7 team / 24 game conference schedule is two folded. The Big 10 is the only conference where you play everybody 4 times. Playing so many games against other Top 15 teams causes a team that otherwise could/should make the NCAA tournament to miss out. Ohio State just missed out last year and this year Michigan State and/or Notre Dame will likely just miss out.
The difference between KRACH and RPI/Pairwise hits this point home.
Michigan State and Notre Dame would be in much better positions to make the NCAA tournament with KRACH since it better takes into consideration strength of schedule.
But because KRACH isn't used it would be better for the Big Ten to bring in an 8th team that is likely weaker and go to an unbalanced schedule where you don't play everybody 4 games each.
Hence the we beat each other up comment.
The second part is the point you brought up.
Having the top team get a bye the first weekend of the conference playoff while some people might see this as an advantage it sounds like coach actually would rather play the weak 8th place team in order to play some more playoff games rather than potentially being rusty since you only play one or two Big Ten playoff game over three weekends whether you win or lose the semifinal game since the Big Ten playoffs are over three weekends with the semifinals and championship game a week apart.
In addition since currently the Big 10 has an odd number of team each weekend somebody can't be playing conference games. This season Michigan State is the team that has a bye weekend the last weekend of the regular season so if they would have won the regular season they would have bye weekends two weekends in a row right before the start of the playoffs.
Does anybody think it is a good thing to potentially have two bye weekends in a row (so going 19 days between games) right before the start of the playoffs?
So for all these reasons coach has mentioned multiple times the Big Ten needs an 8th team. With the current make up of D1 teams I would be fine if it was Arizona State. The conference included Arizona State for scheduling purposes during the 2020-2021 no non conference game season. Arizona State played ever Big Ten team 4 times each to deal with the 7 team issue.
Since non conference games are part of normal seasons even if/when an 8th team is added to Big Ten the conference schedule will likely stay 24 games and an unbalanced schedule will be used like every other conference.
Not necessarily sure about ASU being the 8th team, but with the teams currently playing, I don't know what team would be better.
But, I would definitely prefer 8 teams. The difficulty is cutting the playoffs down to two weeks, unless the B1G can get it set up to be first round Best of 3, then the remaining 4 teams at the highest remaining seed. (Alternately maybe semi-finals on Thursday, then championship Saturday)
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
A Thursday Semi-final and Saturday final seems reasonable. But a few objections I could see is the travel logistics/ Venue coordination for the tight turnaround. The amount of time to sell tickets for the championship game is also fairly tight.
Agreed, and that's where this turns into a problem. Because with the current three-week setup, if the regular season champs stumble in the first round, they'll likely still make the NCAA tournament, but now instead of having two off weeks out of three going into the NCAAs, they have two straight weeks off.A Thursday Semi-final and Saturday final seems reasonable. But a few objections I could see is the travel logistics/ Venue coordination for the tight turnaround. The amount of time to sell tickets for the championship game is also fairly tight.
I don't know what the solution to this should be.

How about a final 5 and the last 2 teams don't get to go. Then just find a way to extend the regular season with more bye weeks to make the timing work out.

The Big Ten could go to a two week playoffs all single games.
Quarterfinals on Friday
Semifinals on Tuesday
Championship game on Saturday
There is three complete off days between each game.
This would keep teams that are making the NCAA from having excess time off that can tend to happen with the current three week playoffs.
Plus any team (especially those on the bubble for the NCAA) can only get one loss to hurt their chances. Why give each other more losses then we need to aka quite beating each other up (one of coaches points)?
You could even go
Quarterfinals - Thursday
Semifinals - Monday
Championship - Saturday
if you want four complete off days between the semifinals and championship game.
Some very unique suggestions out there, but I would avoid any non Friday or Saturday games because of the attendance issue.
Back to the BADgers thread-- Gophers practicing and so are the empty seats for the weekends series.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
Less than 22 hours till game time. Hopefully everybody is ready and putting on the foil. Bye weeks are the worst. It seems like for ever since the Gophers played. It's time for an angry pack of Gophers to instill pain on Bucky.
Wasn’t able to catch the MSU series so it’s been AGES for me. Gonna fork up some dough to those bastards at Bally for the lone Friday game.
They shouldn't worry about attendance for the conference tournament to be honest. It's never been great and their #1 goal should be prepping teams for the NCAA not a tiny fraction of annual revenues. I realize that's naive and won't happen.
Normally do this earlier in the week, but, game day hype is good too...
