For awhile had that feeling of one of those nights where you dominate 5x5 but you still find a way to lose. I think Bob aged ~6 months in those first two periods.
Then that protocol penalty jump started a dominate 3rd. Nice game by Barto, now lets go get the sweep!

Coach in the post game interview said the refs apologized for the 1st period penalty that Michigan scored on.
What?
He said one ref was calling a penalty on Michigan but the other ref called a penalty on us. Why didn't both get called then?
I like when refs admit they made a mistake but apologizing after you gift wrapped them a goal is like thanks. ?

I was surprised there was that big of a gap before tonight given that the eye test of the two schedules seemed fairly similar in strength and record. But the math is the math and small samples make things highly volatile right now.

Yeah it was good game for him. And he was probably 50/50 to start this game since I'm guessing tBob ultimately decided to give Close a rest after seeing Michigan's lineup so depleted.

I thought I heard on TV they were dealing with COVID but from what I read it appears to be adenovirus. Geez. It’s really hitting them hard. They dressed a back up goalie as a forward Thursday.
Gophers up to #3 in pairwise. I know it’s way way too early to care, but it’s good to see.
Glad to take the 6 points even over a short handed Michigan team. Solid team effort this series from everyone up and down the lineup. Barto played better than I expected, and the defense was really active with the offense all series long. The Farm Kid took 32 face-offs last night and won 19 of them and played well all series long. Nice to see Pitlick get some goals as well. Still need to work on a couple of things including taking less penalties, and cleaning up passing through the neutral zone. Cooley needs to channel his frustrations towards scoring and not taking stupid penalties.

Breakout series for Barto and big confidence booster. This isn't the same MI team we'll see at Mariucci, but we'll take the points.
Kudos to MI for making a good series out of it, despite being shorthanded. MN was depleted, too, but had more depth.
Gophers have enough skill to get the puck up the ice without any of the long cross ice passing. Just keep the puck ahead of you and dish it to the guy with speed...keep it simple...limit the blueline turnovers and protect the high slot a little better. MI had a number of legit scoring chances from this area last night.

The site was down all day yesterday due to some sort of glitch that was out of Jupiter's control. The live-chat, since not being on this site, worked perfect.

I assume there is a reason for games on non-non-traditonal days. I sure don't recall the team playing Thursday/Friday before.

Overall, a great performance this weekend. Loved seeing a pair of wins for Barto to make sure he's on the right track.
Yes, Michigan was depleted this weekend, but they still had a ton of talent remaining on the roster, and the Gophers did exactly what was needed, go in to Yost and take advantage. I expect the rematch at Mariucci to be an amazing weekend of hockey.

Also IMO John M. and Strobel have both earned their ice more than Pino, especially if Bob is willing to give John M. a look at center. Both guys bring the energy every night have have outproduced Pino in less ice time.

I'd definitely have liked some more replays of those. I get why they don't show them live in the arena, but no reason BTN couldn't.It would have been nice to have seen a few more replays on the coaches challenges the past couple of games. Maybe they just didn't have very good views of them.

I don't think BTN knew what was being reviewed. I think 2 of them were off the puck plays and one of those was when another penalty was called on the same play. Terrible decisions by both coaches and the whole challenge system is just dumb.
Speaking of dumb there is zero reason Cooley should have been suspended. His penalty was stupid but if that is suspension worthy then there should be suspensions every game. They didn't even give him a misconduct in the game (nor should they have) but you suspend him after the fact? Mind boggling...
As for Michigan they look like they always look...they always want to skate and make pretty plays and the first sign of physicality they just can't take it. All the talent in the world but easily frustrated and thrown on tilt.
