Should be a great series!

No easy weeks in the big ten
One of my favorite series of the year. Always entertaining games when Minnesota and Michigan play each other. I’d love to get 5/6 points this weekend but I’d be fine with 3/4. But need to get at least one true win out of this weekend.
As much as we’ve split to start the year I’ll take a split in a heartbeat at Yost. Should be some of the most fun hockey we’ll watch all year.
Hopefully we can catch Michigan’s D up ice and capitalize with our good transitional play. Hughes, Edwards and Casey all like to jump in the rush.
Would love to get 4 of 6 this weekend.
But, Gophers schedule will get a little easier for sweeps down the road as after this weekend we'll have played 6 of the top 20.
Though, 6 of the B1G is in the top 20 which is nuts. 3 in the top 6.
Keep your stick on the ice...
Ugh, gonna miss the starts of both games, due to work schedule. 🙁
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Ann Arbor is a whore.
Hopefully the Gophers will get a sweep. These will be fun games to watch! Go Gophers!
I posted on the ticket page a couple months ago, don't know how often people check there? I have two extra for Thursday night 40.00 for the pair which is face value. Taking my oldest daughter for the series should be a blast! SKI U MAH!

At the media availability today, Bob said illness is running through the team. A bunch missed practice today, including Close ( if I heard right )
Jess-- You have been fairly healthy this year.
Bob-- You must not have counted the bodies at practice today.
Boom

Oh boy. Do we (Bob) have any idea on who will be able to fly out to Ann Arbor tomorrow?
Here is the video from availability.

It seems like this Michigan team is lethal on offense. However, could that leave opportunities to catch them deep in our zone? We break the puck out, which we’re pretty good at, and all of a sudden we have an odd man rush.

Like us, they have a pretty lethal top line. Their Duke-Fantilli-Samoskevich line has scored 24 of their 53 goals. Should be a heavyweight matchup between two very skilled, yet young, teams.
Let’s go! Bring it on! Other than the UND series this series in Ann Arbor and the series when Michigan is here are the games I’m looking forward to the most. Even more than when we play Wisconsin. I’ll always hate Wisconsin a little bit more than Michigan but with how absolutely dog water the Badgers have recently and how competitive it’s been between us and the Wolverines the Michigan series are the first conference series circled on the calendar.

I feel the exact same way you do. Love this series. Other than Bucky and Michigan, none of the B1G teams have a rivalry vibe for me. Look forward to playing these two teams though. And I agree, much more so Michigan recently with Wisko being so down.

Anybody know any more about this illness that's going through the team?

Here are some photo's from practice in Ann Arbor. It appears that all 3 goalies were on the ice, with Close kneeling in the background near Bob. Close was one of the players that missed some time this week. With the others wearing practice jerseys, can't really tell who they are or if anyone is missing.

Yost looks like such a cool rink. Definitely on my bucket list.
Wolverines/Golden Gophers is quickly becoming my favorite Big Ten series.
Two legendary programs.

The Michigan rival has been my favorite just below UND since the College Hockey Showcase started back in the early 90's

Pretty much the same here. It was always BADgers, Whioux, Wolverines as my top three (in that order). Loved the CHS Thanksgiving day weekends. Almost always 4 really good games.Yost looks like such a cool rink. Definitely on my bucket list.

B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?

went to Yost several years ago. Parking was horrible, bleacher seats with about enough room for one and a half cheeks and pillars to look around. may have been our day/seats but not a big desire to returnYost looks like such a cool rink. Definitely on my bucket list.

I think that’s part of the attraction. The old Mariucci was a bit of a dump but we’d all give an arm and a leg to see a game there again.

I don’t know about that. I remember seats in the lower level were so flat you had a crappy view from 10th row on red line.
I do miss Goldy’s Perch though
Went out to Yost and Munn back when we had the college hockey showcase. I thought I'd be wowed by Yost. Saying that rink sucked was being generous. Munn was pretty cool though.
The only way to watch a game at yost is in a suite. ?
they have rolling office chairs ?
My only regret was being across from the student section and not having a giant white board.
Next year….?

As Jess suggested on the podcast last night, illness is really hitting Michigan hard. One of their players is currently hospitalized.

Very scary. Hope he makes a full recovery. Additional details I have read suggest he is doing somewhat better. Continued thoughts and prayers for him, his family, and the Michigan team.
I should be able to stream this one. ?
Post by MichVandal on the Michigan thread at USCHO:
"Just saw a kind of alarming news report that D-man Steve Holtz is in the ICU battling a virus. The same virus that held Portillo out a few weeks ago, and apparently this is running through the team. Along with Holtz, apparently many players are going to be out this weekend."
A couple of 'apparentlys' so we'll see if this is true in a few hours. In any case, we wish everyone on their roster who does have it a speedy recovery.
Damn. First and foremost you obviously don’t want to see anyone having to deal with this stuff. Second, I wish we were going to see both team’s best because that’s what makes this series great. It could really be two teams of “walking wounded” out there. Or whatever the sick version is of walking wounded.
Close and Huglen are out tonight.

Damn no Close or Huglen. Now we wait for Michigan’s lineup.

Based on this post/picture it appears that Close made the trip to Ann Arbor so I take that as a sign he might be available this series. That tonight they decided to not suit him up to rest up and hopefully be available for tomorrow. Although Owen B playing well tonight could mean Close get more rest tomorrow which is fine too.
I am now curious if Huglen made the trip?
Has John Mittlestadt played center in the past? Either in high school or juniors?
Either way, all hands on deck! Let’s go boys. Let’s play our game, protect the net, and give Barto a chance. Barto, this is your time to show us what you got. Go Gophers!

All of high school and all of juniors
A big positive: all 7 d, the catalyst of this team, are all good to go.
Lamb can also play center on that line if need be. He filled in for Cooley when Cooley got tossed vs the Whioux.

Wow... Michigan without 5 regular skaters (including Fantilli)

They still have a talented lineup, so I hope the Gophers don't think this is going to be easy. They will just run out 3 lines and they have their #1 goalie.

Won't be easy at all. Gophers need to be ready to go early and shut down the potential atmosphere in the building.
