We ran into a cockroach fan at Iwo Jima. We were walking up to the monument, and these two guys passed us on their bikes and one yelled “Go Sioux”. When we got to the monument, I started talking with him. He went to school there and has a house there. Though he works out here. He keeps his residency in North Dakota because it’s cheaper than out here.
I gather you were wearing Gopher apparel as that’s usually the only thing that would elicit that response outside of a hockey rink. 🤮😂
One more adventure to add to my wife and my travels. Our plane was on the runway, ready to takeoff out of Washington DC to Atlanta. And it was required to go back to the gate to pick up a passenger. So now we are waiting to be allowed to go back on the runway to takeoff. We do not know if we'll make our flight out of Atlanta tonight!!!

We were on a flight home from Kauai a couple years ago and they closed the door. Then waited ten minutes and let two families on; one with a screaming baby of course. We think the pilot may have known one of them; certainly nice of them but yeah, rules and stuff. 🤷♀️

We made our flight out of Atlanta by the hair of our chinny chin chin. It turned out to be that Delta needed to get 2-3 pilots to Atlanta. Makes sense since Atlanta is a major hub for Delta.
Our Uber driver last night from the airport in Minneapolis to our house was hilarious. He lives in Burnsville, but just had to run in Bloomington and saw that we lived in Rosemount. So he picked up our ride cause he wanted to go home for the night. When he picked us up there was a shoe still in his van. He told us the previous group was four people and they were all super drunk and it took him nearly 40 minutes to take them 4 miles. I think he said he stopped 4 times for them. Don’t know if each person got out at each stop at their home or what.

Driving to Kansas City in a few weeks to see the Twins play at Kaufmann. I've been searching online to find a few things to do between here and KC, but there just doesn't seem to be much that really jumps out at me as "must see". Will only be in KC a day or two. Has anyone who made the trip have any recommendations for things to see or a good place to stay in KC?
I lived near KC for several years and loved it. (I would go back in a second----Kansas side.)
I guess besides eating barbecue for several days, it depends on who is going. The Crown Center/Hallmark thing is kind of cool, especially if you are going with family or kids. Union Station is VERY cool especially if you are into history. The National WWI memorial and Museum is right there too. Soccer is huge in KC but I have no idea if that will be available post World Cup. Kansas Speedway is supposed to be cool to visit. Drive to Lawrence and check out Mass and KU......
Going to the cabin for over a week. Also on the way making the South Dakota grand tour… stopping at Wall Drug, Crazy Horse, Mount Rushmore and the Badlands.
One of our neighbors and friends down the way sent me this pic of the Northern Lights with Glacier Nat’l Park and the Middle Fork of the Flathead River in the backgrounds. We are off the river and more shaded by trees, so we don’t get a good look at the Northern Lights.
Annual Houghton trip, many GPLers (most don't post here anymore, unfortunately). Car show on Sat, which is really cool because all the cars do a drive-through the town before parking on the main drag. The EPA would have a sh*-fit due to emissions. Best giggle I ever got from this show is seeing a 1963 Pontiac Tempest, mint green (c) My Cousin Vinny

Walked outside early this morning and initially thought maybe a fire in the neighborhood.
My wife and I were at our grandson's baseball game last night and didn't notice it, but when we got home, hoo-boy, it smelled like someone was having a bonfire across the street. And it was worse this morning - took our dog to the park, and you could see the smoke get thicker while we were there.

Was working outdoors in Grand Marais on Tuesday. Blue sky in the morning. Then the wind shifted and just kept getting darker. Sun was completely blotted out by 6 PM and felt like 9:30 at 7:00 (but with orange tint). Other than the temp, felt a little like winter thanks to the white ash falling. Felt like you could not only smell the smoke, but taste it. Glad I am not there anymore. Need rain badly up there.
In Mitchell, SD having dinner. After dinner tried to be friendly with a Tesla driver from California. The guy was a complete jerk. Even my youngest daughter said that guy was not a nice guy dad.
Met some RURAL Georgians last night in Rhinelander, only ones in the bar. Nicest people, totally down to earth. Not a single stereotype, and they appeared to react the same to us Midwesterners. Definitely made the night a good one.

Friday:
Bad Lands - Some very interesting rock formations and colors. Was just way too hot to get out and enjoy any of it.
Wall Drug - Way too much going on. Though just for @cowgirl I was a sheeple and had free water, $0.05 coffee and their legendary hot roast beef sandwich.
KOA (Mnt. Rushmore) - First time at a KOA and we had a blast. Spent the night in a cabin, grilled for dinner (hot dogs, hamburgers and crab) and the kids got to swim before and after dinner at their two different pools. Meet and chatted with several Minnesotans.
Saturday:
Crazy Horse - Can say I’ve seen in person.
Mount Rushmore - Haven’t been since the early 80’s when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade. It was fun to see again. Only complaints, it’s not easily marked for handicap vehicles to park. And they had the major bathroom for males and females closed for cleaning at 11am. So they only had 2 family bathrooms open. The men’s line was like 10 deep at all time and the women’s was 20 plus waiting.
Sturgis - Stopped and had a picnic lunch with the family. And drove them around up and down Main Street.
My wife and I enjoyed the KOA so much, we’ll probably do it again next year and included Deadwood, Needles Hwy and Custer State Park.
