Hell Right!

God's Country

Ol' Red

Come Back as a Country Boy

Lost My Dog, My Job and My Wife

Kiss My Country Ass

The More I Drink

I Dare You To Knock Off This 10 Gallon Hat

Hillbilly Bone

Minimum Wage

The French Gave us Alabama, God Gave us You

*most of those are in fact not made up I kid you not

I've heard that Bon Jovi stunk it up in St. Paul a couple weeks ago but it wasn't until Blabbermouth posted a story about how bad Jon Bon Jovi is sounding on this tour that I hear for myself... Shock

It sucked when The Clash were no more, but Mick Jones did some good stuff with Big Audio Dynamite and Joe Strummer RIP had some quality stuff as well:

Been running through an old school album revival the past several days start to finish.  Most of these I have while a few *were suggested to me and fortunately so.

John Coltrane – A Love Supreme
*The Zombies – Odessey and Oracle
Miles Davis – Kind of Blue
*Rodriguez – Cold Fact
*The Sonics – Boom
Sonny Rollins - Saxophone Colossus
King Crimson – In the Court of the Crimson King
Captain Beefheart – Safe As Milk
The Wailers – Catch A Fire
Nick Drake – Pink Moon
Pink Floyd – Piper At the Gates of Dawn
*13th Floor Elevators – The Psychedelic Sounds
The Stooges – Fun House
Funkadelic – Maggot Brain

btw I had not listened to Fun House in maybe a decade and what a stupid miss by my part.  That is a great album.

And then songs popping up on one my suggested lists so far today on Spotify:

4ontheflour – Lake Street Shuffle https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JkHCuKcw5Q
Left Lane Cruiser – Big Momma https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWvSY6SeLPA
Smog – Bathysphere https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjB3c4woT20
Brant Bjork – Somebody https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I084Wkbd4gE
Matthew Sweet – Sick of Myself https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNfocDNZWY8
Camper Van Beethoven – Picture of Matchstick Men https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAkcSd5l9Qg
Granddaddy – Now It’s On Again https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOq7acPdfnQ
And still the coolest band of all time – Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – White Palms https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNXxBU0Nc5Y

Not sure that Dolly Parton and "Rock" really belong together, but given some of the groups already in the HoF, she definitely belongs.

She did try and remove herself from the ballot (she said she has never done a rock album, but thanks for the idea!), but RnR HOF, being the joke that it is, refused to do it.

Is it for her more "pop" crossover hits??? She is obviously country, but "9 to 5" was a monster pop hit. "Islands in the Stream" with Kenny Rogers was big too. She wrote Whitney Houston's biggest hit, which was number 1 for a ridiculous amount of time. There are plenty of "pop" stars in the HOF. So that must be it???

Well she didn't write "I Will Always Love You" for Whitney. It was Dolly's "breakup song" for her business partner/tv co-host Porter Wagoner, so she could go solo. Whitney just covered the song.

And yes, Dolly went mega-pop in the 80s. So that could be it, I guess, given the very loose standards of the RnR HOF (no rap group should be in there, as much as I love rap, for example).

Yes, she did. I apologize if I misunderstood your post. Many people think that Whitney either
1. Wrote it
or
2. Dolly wrote it FOR her

Just saying she wrote one of the biggest pop hits of all time.

But I think it is also because she is so damn likable by all in the music industry. I have zero issue with her being added.

I guess, when she said herself that she shouldn't be on the list...

She a National Treasure, IMO. Love her music.

I still don't get the angst over which genres are now included.  Yeah originally it was the R&RHOF.

My guess is the powers that be realized if they limited inductions to just rock acts they'd run out of options.  So they expanded their footprint and kept the name. Probably because it was just easier.

Change the name to the Music Hall Of Fame. Easy fix.

I pretty much have. Unless it's the topic of discussion brought forth, I really don't care who's in or out anymore. I will provide input into said discussion, and that's about it. Smile

Run out of options? Now that's funny.  Lots of worthy and deserving Rock and Roll bands and performers get passed over every year in favor of acts that have at best a tangential connection to Rock and Roll.

Perhaps you have a better theory about why they expanded the footprint but I don't think it's a stretch to suggest they wanted to freshen it up.

Oh and while I like Badfinger enough they never had an album higher than 28th and only four Top 10 singles.  The RRHoF doesn't miss Badfinger nor was it created to respresent "Bands that 5 O.T. Likes".

Of course,  makes perfect sense.  Take the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" brand and bastardize it by adding and promoting non Rock and Roll music and non rock artists in order to "freshen it up". Brilliant.

Who are you quoting?

It's not only me that thinks Badfinger should be in the RRHoF. These writers makes a good case. As does their music.

https://outsiderrock.ca/2019/05/20/badfinger-revisited/

https://edgeinducedcohesion.blog/2012/12/09/why-arent-they-in-the-rock-roll-hall-of-fame-badfinger/

Badfinger - Baby Blue

This is a Badfinger song covered by over 180 artists.  Including Harry Nilsson, who had a #1 hit with it and Mariah Carey who had a #2 hit with it.  A song that Paul McCartney once described as "the killer song of all time".

Badfinger - Without You

I get freshening it up, hence the idea to rename it the Music HOF.

Well...I guess there will be fewer posts in this thread now.  My goodness that was a ridiculously stupid post by OT.

I'll add my two cents about the HoF, I agree that it just needs to be renamed the Music HoF to encompass all the genres.  I would also agree that this year's list is solid.  Top to bottom you have artists that contributed to the musical landscape of their genre.  I am a little sad to see that Judas Priest had to back their way into the hall via the Musical Excellence award instead of the Performer Award but they are deserving to be in because of their influence on the hard rock genre over the last 35 years or so.
