And no Eddie Haskell to be found?  The original jerk!

I have no idea how many folks on here ever watched "The Big Bang Theory", but the character of Sheldon Cooper was a HUGE jerk.
Regarding Eddie Haskell (and Ken Osmond was AWESOME, by the way), my son had a friend growing up who we called "Eddie Haskell". Just like him; "My Mrs. Jacobs, that's a lovely dress you're wearing. And Mr. Jacobs, that's a fantastic Gopher jersey you have on". ? ? ?

My son has a friend like that.  He's weirdly polite and talkative for a 14 year old boy.  I'm suspicious.

I never watched more than 2 eps of the Big Bang Theory because that show sums up just about every Mich Tech student. 😉 I don't need to see it on TV. I've seen it in person.

Then it is too bad that Mich Tech doesn't enjoy the same reputation as Cal Tech. Maybe you could get a referral stipend from the HR tech recruiters on GPL for this tip. It would same them a lot of payroll.

From what I know, if Mich Tech were in just about any other place (re: less snow, more women, +/- less cold) it prob would have that reputation.

The Jerk Store Vote is open.  Round one was yesterday but you can still vote in round 2 and subsequent others.

https://www.theringer.com/pop-culture/2023/8/7/23820257/best-pop-culture-jerks-bracket-intro-round-1

even though I probably only know a little less than 3/4 of those characters, my top pick:

ps I found it funny this guy was mentioned as not making the cut:

Johnny Lawrence was the epitome of a jerk, and I'd say Shooter was a close second. Some of those (Roger Sterling) were a-holes, but they at least showed respect once in a while.

Not sure who made the list, but I'd nominate Rip (Less Than Zero), Hardy (Some Kind of Wonderful), Chet (Weird Science) and Steff (Pretty In Pink). James Spader with 2 nods!

Daniel Larusso was a bigger jerk than Johnny Lawrence.

I don't see Wayne Arnold from the Wonder Years on that list.  That character was an all-timer.

Frank: "Funny thing, war - Never have so many suffered so much, so so few could be so happy!!"
Margaret: "We're lucky to be two of the few and not the many."
Frank: "I know, darling, and I love being both of us."

And not related, but I'll always remember, "It's nice to be nice to the nice".

If you've watched the Cobra Kai series in that different light, sure. I am specifically referring to the original movie.

Charlie Berens does some fantastically (despite the cheezewhiz slant) funny videos and this is among his best.

The whole pickleball craze is funny to me.  Here in Mankato it started with the city repurposing a tennis court to pickleball courts.  Then the YMCA started having pickleball in one of their gyms.  Then someone built a pickleball complex and now the latest is the Pond on Madison which has three pickleball courts to go with the hybrid ice rink onsite.  It's crazy how many courts have popped up in the last two years.

I would hate to live near a court, horrible sound in me humble opinion.

Pickleball was like the 55+ game.  Now it's all ages. There's a pickleball court near my house and every time I drive past there's people in there 20's-30's going hardcore at it.

I had to check back to see who was the biggest jerk in that bracket thingy.  I think it was a good choice.

Learning something new every day… Last night the kids were watching a game show on TV and I overheard one of the questions. The question was how many points is a safety worth in football. The lady answered one point and the game show host said correct. They are worth one point or two points. So I said that’s wrong but had to look up how a safety is worth one point…

It would be quite a feat to allow a 1 point safety by being tackled in your own end zone on an extra point attempt.

My SIL in Bangkok has a Pug.  While at the vet today we saw one and my wife sent a picture of him to the SIL where they had a short exchange.  I tried to use Google to see what they said.

My wife texted me to let me know the 3 kid's got their Goldy's Kids Clubs packages today.  Exciting times at the house (I call it the preparatory... lol) when any kind of Gophers gear packages show up. Texted back, can't wait to get home!!!

Moved G-man into college yesterday in Winona.  Bittersweet, happy and proud for him but already this morning the house seems empty.  Empty nesters are what my wife and I are now.  I'm glad that our daughter lives in Mankato so my wife has one of the flock near by.

So the defense would have to force a turnover and then possess the ball in the field of play, go back into the end zone and then get tackled. Seems like this has to happen at some point, prolly this year now that we are aware of it.

I think you can also earn a 1-point safety if, on a PAT, a try is attempted and blocked or fumbled, recovered in front of the goal line by the defending team, who brings it back into their own endzone and is tackled by the offensive team there.

This past weekend I laced them up for the first time since our GPL skate in 2022.  It was a fundraiser tournament for the local food shelf, I last played in it two years ago.  This was the fourth year for the tournament which prior to this year has raised $50k and early returns have this years tournament raising close to $40k.

The hockey was fun and the atmosphere was great raising a lot of funds for the food shelf and gathering with a bunch of hockey rubes.  The weather couldn't have been better for tailgating on Saturday.  The highlight of the tournament was my wife leading a small, but very vocal, cheering section for my team Friday night.

I'm glad that I skated well and didn't get hurt but the lower back and legs were sore yesterday and a little this morning.  I'm already looking forward to the tournament next year.

Had a lazy late afternoon boat ride, sipping travel mugs with Bootleg cocktails, music playing. Life is pretty GD good on a MN lake.

Going for the deep cuts on Jimmy Buffett using TouchTunes

Related: going to my usual Sunday place for brunch. Put in my order, the bartender takes a WTF? moment, since I went outside the range of my usual order. She asked "Okay, wha?" I ordered a cheeseburger and a margarita. I said, "Buffett." She laughed and said, I gotcha.

Close enough. I did run into some chums, but there were no bottles of rum, so that was a dead end. 😉

Tomorrow is the draft for year 33 of one of my fantasy football leagues. 7 of the 12 are original members and 3 others have been in it for more than 25+ years. We are now spread out over 4 states, but 10 of the 12 will be present in the Cities for the draft and afternoon golf. We have experienced 3 of the guys passing through the years. Not a huge money league, but always a great time to catch up with these friends and tell stories from years gone by.

I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.

Last week a couple friends I've known for years were in town for the FFL draft, 32nd year (I retired after 25 years, only 4 original members left). Got together and had a great time. $100 entry (which has been that way since about year 20, so like your league, not really a big money league). It's the glue that keeps us all connected, for sure, retired or not.

And I kinda got roped in today to be a stats/advisor guy to a different friend who hasn't really played before, helping him with his draft tonight. Friggin' Godfather..."I thought I was out, but they keep pulling me back in." 😀

Had a nice weekend in Stillwater/Hudson with my wife.  We stuck to the downtown sights since it was so hot, we plan on hitting the natural sights on our next visit up there.

I gave my wife a nice surprise on the way up by taking her by the "Grumpy Old Men" houses in St. Paul.  That is her favorite movie and I have always forgot to take her by them.  Driving to Stillwater was the perfect chance to swing by them.  She was very surprised and happy to see them.

I am the official Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!

For those who know, you know:

Art museums: art is cool

Science museums: science is cool

Natural history museums: prehistoric animals were cool

Maritime museums in Michigan's Upper Peninsula: Lake Superior will kill you and everyone you love

When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

A friend of ours, who is cabin is next-door ours has been having squirrel problems this past couple weeks. So he’s been putting traps out to catch squirrels and dispose of them. With his luck, he trapped a skunk… So he threw a tarp over the trap, put a hose in his exhaust pipe and fed the hose into the trap and gas the skunk to death.

I'm sure there is a ton of b.s. behind that, but it's a funny talker.
