I know the Twins are covered for the rest of the season, what is going on with the Wild,Timberpuppies and Gophers coverage? I know they all are working on something but I have not seen anything yet
The Wild/Wolves have a deal that, provided that BSN pays their contracted-for rate, allows BSN to air those games. That hasn't changed despite the bankruptcy of DSG. BSN could nullify those contracts and potentially renegotiate those deals, but I believe the Wild/Wolves would jump at the chance to go to NHLtv or NBAtv instead were that to occur much the way of the MLB Network jumped in for the Padres. So I cannot imagine BSN would potentially lose those teams as they would just be letting all the value in this MSP market walk away free.
The Gophers I believe have been on a year-to-year contract with BSN. Given the fact that BSN isn't on any of the streaming networks and UMN has a totally appropriate alternative to broadcast in BTN and BTN+, it is a much safer deal to go all in on BTN instead of risking the BSN game any longer.
I believe Husky Sports Productions is able to get a small contract with Fox 9+ to air its games OTA but I think that is annual. Not sure if the BTN would want to do that locally itself. They've done it for Gopher women's games in the past but hasn't really been an option until BSN was out of the picture. It may require Gophersports to produce the broadcast, which would need to do with BTN I believe-- there are a lot of logistical and legal hurdles for doing that, however.

Here we go again, Disney channels blacked out on spectrum, this includes ESPN channels. How long until the death of cable/satellite tv and we have to pay for dozens of streaming services to see everything we want?

As long as Comcast exists that will never happen. And seeing as the streaming model is proving to be an epic failure (the strike is showing the model is not sustainable) I think the idea of a la carte is never going to be a thing.
So Thursday Viking game is on Prime, any local channel picking it up?

He said Timberwolves Chief Operating Officer Ryan Tanke told WCCO that the team is going to use a "super non-traditional" route for its broadcast partnership in a "one-year trial.

So today I heard on KFAN that they will be broadcasting the Timberwolves, with that the Vikings and Wild a lot of alternate radio coverage it will be a little hard to figure out what radio station to listen to for your selected team
Aloha!
This could be a rough fall/winter for fans trying to watch the Wild and Wolves.
An article Monday in Sports Business Journal framed things up, calling this a "defining week for the future of Diamond Sports," which owns the Bally Sports regional channels that show games for 15 NBA teams and 12 NHL teams.
Two key deadlines loom by the end of the week, SBJ notes: Diamond's deal to show games on Comcast, the largest cable/satellite provider in the United States, expires this week; and Diamond has until Saturday to come up with a reorganization plan in bankruptcy court that will satisfy creditors.
If that's not enough, Diamond's deal with DirecTV expires at the end of October and its deal with Charter is up in February.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
I hope it fails miserably. Its become so difficult to watch, I just don't care anymore.
The golden Knights announced a package that allows fans to watch 70 games for $70 for the season. at $1 per game, I'd pay that. But this $20 per month ends up being 7 months (October to April), or $140, for the hockey season - double the cost. Plus their app is horrendous and was constantly crashing and having issues with a borrowed Xfinity login.
Diamond Sports and Ballys Sports can get go the way of the dodo bird.

FS1 just ran a promo and said the Twins/Astros game will follow this one. I wonder if the start will be delayed?

So I was just billed $72 for the Athletic. We are hemorrhaging money right now, and need to cut expenses. I went to cancel, it offered me a renewal rate that was decent ($19.99) and I accepted that. It then said on October 11th of 2024(!!) it will renew for that rate, no change to this year. And now the "Cancel subscription" link is greyed out and I cannot re-click on it.
So I contacted customer service (via email, no phone number anywhere) and said if I have to pay $72 for this year, I just want to cancel. They responded and said that once I was charged the $72 I am in for the year. So my cancellation is for next year since I was already charged, there are no returns, all sales final basically. No prorated refunds, etc.
What the hell?!? It hasn't even cleared my CC yet, still pending. That's pretty poor customer service. Do I just dispute with the CC company? I am not interested in paying $72 for the Athletic this month. I didn't get an email reminder about my subscription renewal or anything. Yes, I should've know when it renewed but I just didn't have it written down.

Well… thank you. I just checked and mine renews 11/10 so you helped me.

I would dispute it. They didn’t warn you and gave you a misleading offer and refuse to give your money back. Absolutely poor customer service.
I think it’s rude to not give a reminder. I debate keeping mine, I hardly ever read it save for mostly articles about gopher hockey. They’ve really jacked the prices since I signed up.
good tip about the cancel to get another year cheaper. Mine’s not up til April but might have to try that
Might or might not help, but read the fine print. The user agreement. You know most of these companies' lawyers go over the language/etc hardcore....

It is in there, I checked. However I contacted them to cancel on the SAME DAY I was billed. It hasn't even cleared my account. My renewal date is October 11th. I think that is the rub in my case, if I had waited 3 or 4 days, and/or the payment had posted I get that I am S.O.L. But I am contacting you on the renewal date. There is also no phone number anywhere for them, I contacted via email this morning, and just got a canned response email at 8:30pm tonight.
I called my CC provider and asked what my options are. They said I can only dispute the charge once it is posted.
I'd like to cancel for next year and not even pay the $19.99 if this is how it is, I don't want to deal with this type of billing anymore. But the stupid "Cancel Subscription" button is greyed out. By clicking accept did I automatically lock myself into yet ANOTHER year at $19.99, and now I am not able to cancel until 2025?!? I cannot call in and ask anyone...
Sorry, I am a little bit frustrated and stressed out. Between the cost of everything going up we are pulling out of savings nearly every month just to cover standard expenses. Our daycare is on the verge of shutting down classrooms if they cannot find more teachers (granted, I wouldn't do it for the pay they are offering either...). I wasn't expecting this $72 charge, and now it seems as though there is nothing I can do about it.
They aren't the only ones. Every company wants to get on the subscription model. I can see the future where nobody owns anything and we all pay a subscription or fee to use or do anything and agree to pages and pages of "terms of Service" for everything we do. You don't own your car, you just may a monthly fee to use the software that makes it run. Sorry, tangent.

Me too. I read it for Gopher Hockey, Gopher Football, and the Wild. However the Gopher coverage has dropped off considerably both for hockey and football. And the Wild don't seem to be worth getting too excited about in my opinion, so I don't know how much I am going to read about them the next 2 seasons. I don't read any of the national coverage, I am a casual Vikings fan at best, and couldn't give a rip about basketball.

Just googled, try the FTC, or AG for unfair consumer practices, the BBB (although I heard that they can't do much). I think even a threat of that would cause them to say "it's not worth it, we'll let it slide."
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
I agree with going to the AG. I'm going to bet this is a pretty common request for not just The Athletic but other auto-renew companies. The BBB is an okay resource but works best for local companies. I once had a complaint about Sears and went to the BBB of MN. Since Sears was based in Illinois, there were two BBB's involved and it was as hassle. The Athletic is owned by the NYT so the BBB of NY would likely have to get involved. Not worth the time. Go the AG route.
I like The Athletic. Every year I resubscribe. About two months after I resubscribe I cancel it. The subscription still runs the rest of the term but does not auto renew that way. This year when I resubscribed I was offered a $2/month deal that included The Athletic but also NYT Games. As a huge crossword puzzle fan, this was well worth the $24 annual charge.
Just dispute it when it clears the CC will refund the money (depending on the card the timing will be different) and you will never hear about it after that. It's such a low amount it won't even register.
Unless that challenge causes you to need a new card...then I got nothing for you.
I don't think threats will get you anywhere nor will the BBB. It's just too small...
Best decision I made was never renewing The Athletic. The idea behind it was sound but the writing was pretty blah and it quickly just became a more annoying version of the Strib Sports Page.
I subscribed to The Athletic a few years ago on one of those dirt cheap $1.99/month "new subscriber" deals. I didn't use it much, and kind of forgot about it. Of course, a year went by and I forgot to cancel it, so it automatically renewed month-to-month at the full-price rate (I think about $7.00/month?). I don't check my bank account line-by-line as closely as I should, so I didn't notice it for several months. I canceled it when I finally noticed, but not before getting billed for about 4 months.
Lesson learned. I don't sign up for any promotional deals anymore (ex: free trial streaming services, etc...). I just get too busy and don't have the organizational skills or time to keep track of everything, so I get burned. For someone like me, it's best to just not put myself in those situations anymore.
I have an iPhone so I’m not sure how Android or others work, but…
Go to Settings
Look at Media and Purchases (under your bold nam)
Click on Subscriptions
It shows everything you’re subscribed to and the cancel date. You can cancel most, not all, right there in one location. I look at this on a regular basis to make sure I haven’t forgotten something and it auto renews. It doesn’t work if you’ve subscribed directly from a site, only if you’ve downloaded Apps.
Sorry about your rude surprise, I despise all this Subscription nonsense it’s gotten out of control. Which is what they count on.
Note: Due to inflation dirty deeds will no longer be done dirt cheap.

It looks like it only works for subscriptions purchased through the app on your phone... I went to google play store, my account, Payments & Subscriptions, Subscriptions -- "You have no current subscriptions". I do have The Athletic app on my phone, so it isn't picking up that subscriptions, since I originally purchased on the website I assume.
I am a physical media person, I buy the CD, I think I am the only person buying 4K discs... Lots of friends and relatives laugh at me. But when I want to watch a movie (IE The Hunt for the Red October), I don't have to shuffle through 8 different services to find which one it is on, or worry if someone pulled it out of circulation (looking at you Disney+). I just throw the disc in. No buffering issues, no reduced sound and video quality due to compression, no video and audio being out of sync. I get 4K video and Dolby Atmos audio. Even Netflix's 4K often isn't true 4K because most internet providers, mine included, cannot handle a true 4K stream. If my internet goes out, I can still watch it. (I am much more of a movie person and watch very little TV)
I just want to buy the music and movies that I want, and watch them when I want and the quality I want. I want to have it and own it, not just pay a license fee. But that makes me an old man and a dinosaur I guess.
I’m right there with you Fightclub. I like my CDs and my DVDs. The sound and picture quality can’t be beat. My biggest gripe? I owned Photoshop for decades, bought the software. Now my latest computer will no longer transfer it over and new Photoshop is subscription only. I only use it a few times a year, I’m not paying a monthly fee.
So you’re not the only dinosaur. ?

I have forgotten a few "free trial" or "new subscriber" promos myself. I usually miss cancelling by a day or two, but it's my own fault. Thankfully, I've made that extra paid month or whatever worthwhile, and I cancel, then let the paid part run out.

Interesting. So apparently Prime is able to be cancelled within three days after purchase. Otherwise no dice, unless you find an extremely generous support center worker.
