Take 5 are very underrated.

Mine are Take 5, sour patch kids, then Reese's variety (Cups, Nutrageous, etc)

My favorite is a Twin Bing candy bar. I stock up when I visit Iowa.

Circus Peanuts are AWFUL.

My favorite candy is the Haribo Gold Bear gummi bears. I can't have them in the house because I'd eat bags of them

Favorite candy is a toss up between Snickers with Almonds and a Nut Roll.

The nut roll at the Renaissance Festival is ridiculous.

Snickers with almonds sounds good, I don’t think I’ve seen that. Is pretty readily available?

Having a nut roll as a favorite candy has to be MN bias/nostalgia, right?

Yes. They used to be called Mars Bars. But Mars rebranded them Snickers with Almonds years ago.

Probably, because their flooded here.

But if you can get the hand made bars sold from booths at fairs (cashew, almond, pecan, etc.).... so delicious.

Favorite pet story:

When I was about 14 or 15, we had a golden retriever that lived to hunt. One weekend while hunting, my dad, my dad's cousin, and I went to a small beaver pond about a mile off an old logging road. We didn't have any luck at the pond, and headed back to the truck. About half way back to the truck, our dog wandered off, and we couldn't find him. We called and whistled for him, but he wouldn't come to us. When we got back to the truck, it was nearly dark, so we opted to head for home and come back the next day to see if we could find him. The next day, we walked into the pond, and he was sitting right where we had been the day before, waiting for us.

Favorite candy? Easy - anything with caramel. Milky Way, Snickers, Milk Duds, etc. My favorite, which I haven't seen in forever, is Milky Way Simply Caramel.

Honorable mentions:

York Peppermint Patties

Mars bars (discontinued and replaced by Snickers with Almonds)

Pearson Nut Goodie

Reese's Peanut Butter Cups

Pretty much what I like as well. Throw in the Charlestown Chew and any kind of saltwater taffy.

Dark chocolate. First choice is something from Switzerland, Belgium or Germany but if I have to I'll take a Dove bar or even a Hersey Special Dark or Milky Way Dark.

I love candy pretty much in general as I have the world’s largest sweet tooth. But if I were stranded on a desert island (dessert island?) and could only have one it would be Reese’s peanut butter cups hands down.

And yeah, circus peanuts are gross.

When I was working at the History Center we collected a bunch of Pearson’s stuff: various wrapper full sheets, advertising mock ups, just a mix of items. When the guy dropped them off he also brought a 10 pound salted nut roll as a gift! It was in a 9x13 pan and weighted in at the 10 lbs. A party sized Nut Roll. We put it in the break room and all day people stopped in and cut off a chunk, it’s amazing how MUCH candy a Nut Roll 10 lbs equals Shock

When people tell me I’ll regret not having kids, I say that’s okay I know a really good place to cry. It’s my vacation home.

Of the non sporting / pointing breeds @ Zwak is right on. Boxers are great family dogs. Just protective enough to give any stranger acting goofy pause. We had one loaned to us to wet nurse a litter of GSP when the dam, best dog I ever owned, ran, trained, hunted over, etc died whelping a litter. Snickers, the Boxer, stayed with us when the pups where weaned and became our house dog / pet.

I have had likely 15 pointing dogs I have owned. Mostly GSP but also Pointers. I competed in horseback field trials for 23 years but no longer. I can't tell you how many dogs I worked and ran for clients / friends.

Candy? Brandy (Korbels) Old Fashions aka Adult Candy!?

I'm a sucker for black licorice. Ike & Mikes are sooo addictive. Maybe I need to get a bottle of Sambuca?

Candy:

Circus peanuts are terrible. Same category as Peeps.

I love peanut butter and chocolate combination so anything with that is great. Reese’s Sticks are probably my favorite. Put them in the freezer if you can wait and it will change your life.

I also agree that Take 5 is very underrated.

Peeps can burn in hell, but Circus Peanuts in small doses, I do like a lot.

Werther's Originals are friggin' solid.

I rarely eat candy anymore, though. Sweets in general, actually, including cake. Pies and cheesecakes are still in the wheelhouse, though.

You lie. Peeps are great. Especially on Jeeps! Mr. Green

Seriously though, who doesn’t like marshmallows or sugar?? To be fair, a few of the “flavors” are kinda yucky.

FTR, that peep lasted through 2 rainstorms, 2 trips from the X to Ridgedale and back, plus a trip to Cowgirl's place (the latter was the point I wanted to see how long this would last). We literally peeled it off the bumper. It was stuck. It melded to the bumper.

These are better. Mr. Green

1. Anything Reeses, but particularly the Cups with Pieces in them

2. Twix

3. Snickers

4. Kit Kat

5. Creme Eggs

Now, obviously I don't eat a whole lot of candy anymore, but when I do indulge, it's gonna be from this list.

I remember those! Remember Necco Wafers? For a while the only option my Dad would give us was those or a Snickers.

Your list looks a lot like mine if I were to draw it out/look at it during a different point in my life.

I highly recommend the Big Cup if you're going to do anything Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. The Big Cup has the right chocolate:peanut butter ratio.

I'm in the minority (along with Jup) in that I don't like chocolate however frozen peanut or almond M&M's are pretty good.

Overall my favorite candy would have to be Jelly Belly Jelly Beans. I liked it when Target had the huge bins of each flavor and you could customize your own bag of jelly beans.

Unfortunately I was diagnosed as Type II diabetic last year. My diet is somewhat back to normal but I have given up most candy as it really spikes my blood sugar. Hasn't been terribly hard to give it up.

What’s the worst advice you’ve ever received?

I was very much discouraged from studying overseas when I was first in college. I regretted it immediately. Since then I’ve more then made up for it by my travels but I’d still like to live somewhere again for about 6 months. Not be a tourist but more day to day living. I choose Florence Italy.

When people tell me I’ll regret not having kids, I say that’s okay I know a really good place to cry. It’s my vacation home.

Oh that is sad. That experience was so transformative for me. Loved it. London was a great place to do that too with one of the most expansive airports in the world next door so I could get anywhere, not to mention all the history in London. I interned too so it was fun to commute for 4 months. So much fun.

Glad you’re making up for it now!!
