why can’t they provide a better option of showing games, last night the Gopher game television game coverage was delayed due to the ending of the 1st game being shown. The Big Ten is a billion dollar conference and they only show 1 game at a time? They should be able to show the local teams on time without having any delayed coverage of any games 😡

Hmm. I thought they did arrange things during the playoffs better. I know there's no way they're ever going to bother turning on one of the "spare" channels in the regular season for hockey, people just need to understand that it will NEVER happen. Given how poorly college hockey does in the viewership numbers, we need to be happy they cover it at all.
Yes, I realize that Minnesota is, as always, the exception for this, but, even there, we barely move the needle off it's starting peg, at least in the scale that a large broadcaster cares about.
As a reminder, the record for most-watched hockey game in BTN's history is 165K- the 2023 B1G Tournament Final. For comparison, the Volleyball NCAA Tournament selection show in 2024 had around 50% more viewers at 244K.

Bit of an apples-oranges comparison. 2023 B1G hockey final only directly involved two teams; Volleyball selection show has implications for all 64 teams in that tourney +more teams who are on the bubble. If they don’t have an objective pairwise-type criteria like NCAA hockey, the selection show becomes way more important.
Doesn't change the fact that college hockey barely registers on the viewership numbers. That was just a stat I stumbled into back in February when people were complaining about lack of coverage.
But, let's go with just individual matches. Found another list that shows viewers for college volleyball this season (regular season, not playoffs). Between August 22 and September 28, there were twenty different matches that had more viewers than the most-watched ever BTN hockey game (many of these weren't on BTN, but, that doesn't change the scale). The most watched was Nebraska/Kentucky (on ABC) with over 1 million viewers. The MN/QU title game only had 800K or so.
The simple fact is that Hockey is a somewhat niche sport in the overall scheme of things, and college hockey is a niche of a niche. The passion of the people posting on a message board dedicated to college hockey is an incredibly poor reference point for how popular anything is.
