1. I was curious how a military academy player could transfer as an upperclassman. IIRC, once they are upperclassman they owe the time (or financial payback). It appears it's not easy, and most likely they have to do a graduate program the academy would find of value. From the Colorado Gazette:
"There is no guarantee that a graduating Air Force student-athlete will be able to transfer to another program. It entails a rigorous process where Air Force has to clear the student-athlete to play elsewhere and that the student-athlete has to be accepted at another school’s graduate program."
2. Would teams in the tournament be actively pursuing portal players. Seems like the level ground, including for players from NCAA teams that may want to transfer, would have the portal window after the respective sports season is done.
I remember texting a buddy after he committed to MN. Buddy's son (deservedly per my buddy) played behind him for two years in HS so I figured he'd be happy for a former teammate of his son's. His reaction was neutral at best which I always found curious.
I know nothing beyond that but he's certainly quick to leave if it's not going his way. Maybe there is more to the story here and at AIC...

im curious about a couple things in the portal. 1. it appears that one can announce they are part of the portal and still keep on a team if their team is in playoffs, is that correct (case in point, Noah West Michigan goalie is still listed on roster)? Weird if so.. 2. would Minnesota or any other team still in hunt be active in portal? it doesn't appear so, so far for this year. I am not sure what would stop them. If not it seems being disadvantage as a month can transpire between the opening of the portal and the final game
Just because you declare doesn't mean you are off the team. There are rules of when you can transfer and so on. The team can keep you on the roster if they so choose an you want to be. Football teams do this with bowl games. As long as they are eligible and in school it's all good.

Not to get ahead of ourselves here as we have a big Frozen Four on our horizon but I hope we go into forks and beat the crap outta UND next year. Revenge for thanksgiving 2019. They’ll have all new D. Most of them freshmen.

I know the Gopher coaches do not have the time on their hands these last two weeks, like Brad Berry, but do they look to the portal for a few roles for next year, and is this something they work on now, or just consider that they will be a few weeks behind?
Are they all set with knowing who is leaving and this is balanced out by who is returning/coming in?
@coondog My guess is that they are keeping an eye on the portal, and Gordon and/or Miller have made contact with a player or 2 that they may be interested in. They probably know who will leave via NHL and portal and those who plan on using the covid year. It also would not surprise me if they have a commitment from a portal guy but told him to not disclose that they are coming in until after the FF to avoid any extra distractions. I am happy that the Gophers don't have to rely on the portal too much and are able to bring in very good recruits to keep the train going.

Oof...jaded Mav fans here at the office after lunch. They are pretty upset with Zmolek and Tassey since they spent the bulk of their MSU career in the trainers room trying to get healthy. Fitz and Silye might be jumping ship just because Hastings left, nothing to say that will be their landing spot. Hastings has no need to take from MSU with the recruiting class he has coming in. Overall the mood is pretty bad after these transfer announcements.

Kato has some pretty skilled forwards coming in their recruiting class. Will be interested to see if they try to get a release from their NLI. Kato needs a coach now to plug up the holes or the ship will keep leaking.
