With games beginning this weekend, the drive to St Paul begins.
Here is the preseason USCHO poll. Will be interesting to see how it ends up.

Gophers with as good of a chance as anyone. As Motzko says just get us in the tourney and see what happens.

Probably winds up the same. So we take on Merrimac in round 1...With games beginning this weekend, the drive to St Paul begins.

I don't know if you can say that. After all, there might be 3 conference championship winners not in top 13 and then Merrimack is out. Might be Arizona State...

The only downside to that is that theory has not worked for us in about 40 years. Seems like we have to have the best team in order to win. And then even when we do, we don't necessarily win. Like '81, '89', '13, '23 etc. You would think sometime we would have the fifth or sixth best team and get hot but that doesn't seem to happen for us.

You could literally use this same argument for basically every team out there though.

True, except for Michigan State with Abdelkater, Yale in 2013, Providence in 2015, maybe UMD in 2011. maybe Denver in 2004. So it does happen. Just never to us

I don't remember Herbie's teams too well, but I'm guessing one or more of them won by getting greasy.
Minnesota doesn't have an enviable conversion record (National titles per tournament appearance), but they do win more consistently during the season than the others. I'll take a lot of talent, albeit young, and a team that wins year in and year out over winning a flukey tournament. (But I do wish they would have converted this year and in 2014, two times they got up early and let the game slip away, and two times they had more talent than their adversaries...still shaking my head over the way they played the second half against Q.
I feel like any team in the top 8 winning it all isn’t unexpected, anything below that is less likely but it’s happened 3 of the last 10 (Duluth 2018, providence, and Yale) so it’s not exactly unheard of. If the preseason ranking of 3 is even somewhat accurate then I’ll be happy and you just gotta hope they mostly play to their capabilities once the regular season is over.
Looking at the program in the NC through a 70-year lens is a bit illogical for the purpose of guessing future outcomes.
How many different coaches have a loss in a title game - 6? iirc Mariucci, Sonmor, Beutow, Woog, Lucia and Motzko. Heck they missed the NCAA tournament for 10 years between the end of Mariucci's tenure and the start of Sonmor's. It's not like when the Bills lost 4-straight SBs. S**t happens over the course of 7 decades.
Enjoy the season.

With a loaded team. Just could not get anything going that game.Brooks lost 1 in 1975
Yeah I would hesitate to make any bold predictions about a one and done hockey tournament. I feel like if you’re in the top 8 teams you have a really good shot and even if you’re not the tourney format is more favorable.Looking at the program in the NC through a 70-year lens is a bit illogical for the purpose of guessing future outcomes.

Around the Big Ten:
Michigan and Notre Dame upset by Providence and Clarkson respectively. Penn State squeaks by Long Island and Ohio State squeaks by Mercyhurst. Wisconsin and MSU each with wins too.
Air Force was up 5-1 on Sparty in the 2nd but it's now 5-4 with 11 minutes left in the 3rd.
Air Force holds on to win 6-5. The all world freshman goalie played the 1st 20 minutes and gave up 3.

Call it schadenfreude. Call me petty. But I would find it absolutely hilarious if that is the only game he ever plays on Comm Ave and he goes straight to the NHL.

You can call the following petty as well, but I'd love nothing more than for the Gophers to have a crack at his team.
Disappointing for Duluth

As an Augustana alum, I'm hoping they have a ton of success against everyone except the Gophers. Their navy jerseys with Augustana script on the front are so sharp.
Notre Dame up 3-1 over Boston U after 1. Go Big Ten!
SCSU vs Fairbanks on Fox9+ tonight, also.

Speaking of banners the remodel would have been a great opportunity to ditch the Runner Up banners at Mariucci.
Pretty sure Mr Flor would have been very happy to do so, but didn't get to make that call.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Nothing wrong with the runner up banners.
