Things getting curiouser and curiouser in Manchester.

brutal bounce for Bentley and that's probably going to be it for them. 1 min to try flip the script
No Holy Cross moment for BC.
This year.

He’s glad that BC won because he didn’t know a single name on the Bentley roster. Tough for him to call a game and not list what NHL team drafted what player every 10 seconds.
The Bentley goalie may have been bumped by his own player on the Hagens goal, if not he sure got himself out of position on that wrap around. Heads up play by Hagens. Great effort by Bentley, they looked better and better as the game went on.

UConn up 2-0 in first over Q
Aloha!
Prov goalie gifts a goal to DU
I don't watch a ton of non-Gophers games due to the time difference, but it feels like Denver never plays afraid to lose. They feel like from my armchair that they are a team you do not want to play against no matter what.
Now I'm not saying they're going to win this game or even the NC (nor are they unbeatable), but I really like the mental makeup that the team seems to exude and wish the Gophers would have more of that.
Last seen under Woog and before that Brooks?
The 2023 team played that way until the final 30 minutes of the season. 😡
Dead horse, I know.
I’m going to need Providence to mount a comeback so Zeev is playing against the Devils tomorrow night.
Man amongst boys so far in this game.
UConn goalie pulling out all the stops in the third here.
Death. Taxes. And DU winning postseason games. BC-DU going to be a great one on Sunday
So…
Ooc who are folks rooting for out of what’s left? I can find a reason to root against every one of them. 😂
This is a bad dream and I’ll wake from this, right?
Could be worse.
No green, no red.

And, PSU getting screwed by the refs. Somehow a clear cross-check to the face isn't a major penalty.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
UConn doesn’t bother me. They just won their first tournament game.
The rest of the period was better, still don't understand why a crosscheck to the face isn't a penalty these days... Start of the 2nd, 3-1 PSU

They'll play at least one more game than Wood this season.
So are people going to calm down on the Barr train if PSU wins or are we already at too big a rager for him?

Mittlestadt agrees (although I think it was the other side of his head).
Psu seems to be figuring things out okay though.

This is my conundrum after the Gophers are out. I don’t want any of the teams to win it. I usually pick the one I would have least indifference for. I guess UConn would be it this year.

I was hoping Bentley could pull it off. Now as someone else said St. Louis will just be a no-stress party. 😁
No surprise PSU throttling Maine and not letting up
No surprise PSU throttling Maine and not letting up
They were humming like a swarm of bees all game and playing like Gophers' fans hoped their team would play.
They're going to be good next season.
People were thinking Maine was a legit contender and MSU was a favorite. This frickin tournament.
Go Penn State.
Never Pedo St.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
I picked PSU over Maine mostly because it wasn’t exactly the most neutral site and PSU has been on a tear with good goaltending to boot. MSU was a shocker for sure though, Cornell probably gets owned in the next game now as they’re a team that can play spoiler for a game but aren’t a serious contender. No surprise PSU throttling Maine and not letting up

For like 20 years Cornell has showed they can shut down anyone for 1 game and they have a good goalie. They are by no means a favorite, but I think they will be a tough out just because they always seem to be at this point in the year.

Out of curiosity I decided to look at their tournament record back to 2000:
2002: 1-1
2003: 2-1
2005: 1-1
2006: 1-1
2009: 1-1
2010: 0-1
2012: 1-1
2017: 0-1
2018: 0-1
2019: 1-1
2023: 1-1
2024: 1-1
Statistically speaking I'd bet against them next game.
And of course as soon as hit "Add Reply" I secured their place in the FF. 😀

Also interesting to see how referees calling valid trips and cross checks on the team trying to mount a comeback in the third period can impact things.

Probably an emergency Teams meeting or two after evaluating the crew who screwed over Minnesota.
The PSU-Maine crew got it right.

noticed that as well. still don't know how they didn't call that cross check to the face, but overall i thought they stayed consistent and they didn't feel the need to even up the calls. The audacity to have one team with 5 PPs and the other with 2.
Go Penn State.
Only reason I cheered for them is to have more ammunition against the eastern coaches. Imagine that game at Alfond instead of PSUs backyard.
100% this. The Refs in the PSU game really only blew one call, early in the 1st (the cross-check to the face) but after that, pretty much everything else seemed reasonable. Did they let some stuff go? Sure, but those were the iffy/ticky-tack kind of calls (and I think everyone is OK letting the close stuff go), while still calling the clear trips/etc that were completely let go when UMass was doing them.No surprise PSU throttling Maine and not letting up

UMass, Bentley, Mankato and to a lesser extent, Cornell. We'll see if they swallow the whistle later today with BU/Cornell. Maine/PSU was much more enjoyable to watch because they called things. Was hard hitting and fast paced with guys actually able to use open ice. Ya know, how hockey is most enjoyable to watch.
I think this goal should count for Cornell. He didn't play it off his hand, it was off his gut.

A great example of why review should exist. I understand waving that off in real time. Glad they got it right.
To me, Cornell always looks 2-3 inches taller and 20 lbs bigger than their opponent. Not sure if they are or it’s the uniform illusion.
i think I heard they haven’t been to Frozen Four in 20 years, which surprised me since they seem to be in the tourney more years than not
Not sure I like this facemask call on Cornell. If they're going to call that, they should be calling facemasking on almost every scrum.

if you do the letter of the law, the BU player appeared to throw a punch right before the face mask.
And as you say, it’s nearly every scrum.
but I’m really glad they are focusing on this, because clear and obvious tripping that leads to a turnover and scoring opportunity is not a priority.

how dare they call this many penalties anyway? don't they realize they're ruining the game?!
But yeah facemasking in college hockey is always a weird one because the NHL has tons of facewashing that happens on every scrum. If you grab and rip someone around, sure. Otherwise it's kind of whatever to me
The amount of punches and facemasks in an average game, if called the way they did this one, would result in empty benches by the end, and mutual forfeits due to not having any eligible players with the automatic suspensions from all the fighting penalties.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
@steve-mn yeah the rules are the rules so gotta call it today? Let them play one day call it tighter the next and again the refs are making a footprint when common sense should prevail and maybe a two for a compromise.
My theory is they spent five minutes reviewing it because they were desperately trying to find a way to not call it.
