At 18, I hope that he is the first of a new generation of players coming up. He is damn good.
He just has a little something extra that I don't think I've ever seen from a USA player. Like he has a 6th sense for the game. Dempsey has it to some extent, I think, but not to the extent that Pulisic does.
That second goal was a very calm and collected finish. I watch him and marvel that he's only 18
Okay, Alexi Lalas said this is the greatest rivalry in the world tonight, is this remotely true?
Big changes for USMNT tonight. Listed as a 3-4-3 but will probably end up being more like a 5-2-3, with Yedlin and Beasley sprinting up to counter when we do get the ball.

Obviously he's speaking from an American point of view, pandering to an American audience, so it's up for debate. I think Argentina and Brazil would probably be number 1 in my book, but USA and Mexico is up there, in my opinion. The games are seemingly always intense.

Really? Surprising that anything related to soccer and the USA would near, "the greatest." I will watch the World Cup and have tried to follow outside of that and just lose interest. I don't discount anyone's passion but just assumed that there were more countries where it was the #1 sport.
Of course, if I lived in Mexico and the %#@$ing USA beat us I would lose my mind. Go USA!

Argentina-Brazil, Germany-Netherlands, Germany-Italy and maybe even England-Ireland would be my top ones

See, the thing about it is that the big European nations don't seem to play a lot. Most of the time, all the big ones like Italy, Germany, France, England, Spain, etc. are all in their own groups for World Cup Qualifying or Euro Qualifying. They all beat up on the minnows of UEFA, and then win their groups to get to the World Cup/Euro.
I mean, there are some big rivalries in Europe, but they just don't play as often as USA and Mexico do. We always play Mexico in WC Qualifying.
For example, Italy and France is regarded as a pretty big European rivalry, and they've only played 38 times in their history. Compared to the 66 times that USA and Mexico have played.

That makes sense.

Yeah - when nearly half of the World Cup slots go to European teams this happens. That said they also do play each other a lot in the Euros and they have decades of history beyond of WC qualifiers. Heck....England and Ireland almost can't play each other anymore for security reasons
Mexico throwing elbows early....
Mexico throwing elbows early....
Michael Bradley throwing it in from 30 yards out. :dup:
Michael Bradley!! That was awesome. What a finish from that distance.
USA defense: "Hey, let's leave Chicharito on tons of space in front of our goal!"
Yeah, let's not do that again.
Damnit.....
Great finish for Mexico.
Soccer injuries and LeBron injuries have A LOT in common.
Keep your stick on the ice...
I'd be content taking it 1-1 into half. Don't give up a late goal here. That would be a backbreaker.
Geoff Cameron has been great tonight.
Solid point. I'll take it.
So this is a dumb question I'm sure, but in my Comcast sports bar I went to check the score of the game and it lists it as 1-1 FT.
What the heck does FT mean?
Full Time. Basically, what other sports call "final."
Figure it out soccer. Just use final like every other sport ever. ?
You think THAT's effed up? Australian Rules Football uses "Quarter Time," "Half Time," "Three Quarters Time" and "Full Time."

What? No "Extra Time"? Used to get those in rugby if there were stoppages for injuries - not an uncommon event.
Does the gold cup matter? Shouldn't we be beating this country I'm not sure I've heard of before?

We should be beating them. We've had plenty of chances, I'm expecting us to get a couple goals in the 2nd half here to win comfortably.
We didn't bring anywhere close to our strongest team to this tournament. Many of our best players are not playing. This tournament is a great chance for young guys to get a shot in the squad.
We're not quite controlling the play as much as I'd like. Midfielders are struggling a bit, I think.
Omar!!
I'd expect things to open up now. Go get a couple more goals here.
Yikes....
Morris!!
Nice answer. Now close it out.

They are not a country... and we should be beating them badly. Of course this is a warm up/try out for the World Cup and/or the Gold Cup in 2 years.
Dempsey looked like he knew he scored the second the ball left his foot.

His play on Jozy's goal was awesome. Brilliant touch, and a great ball to get Jozy in.
It could be an amazing asset for us going forward if Clint can transition into a super sub role. Might be where he's most effective at this point in his career.
My God, that grass in San Francisco is so garbage. Big divots just laying on the surface. Unbelievable how a brand new stadium can have such an awful playing surface.
Game is starting to open up a bit, it seems.
What a FK from Jozy. Get another one and close it out, boys!

No kidding just tuned in. Field looks like shit. This is an embarrassment.

FIFA president is the tonight, too. I'm sure he's not impressed.
Although he'll probably be impeached on corruption charges long before our World Cup bid.
What a FK from Jozy. Get another one and close it out, boys!
That was sick, didn't know he could do that.
FINALYYYYYYY

Yesssssss!
That referee had no business being involved in the game. He shouldn't even work a high school game. That was embarrassing. And any respect I had for the Reggae Boyz is long gone. Cheap ass playing.

Huh. I guess I didn't really notice anything real cheap from Jamaica. Certainly nothing like El Salvador.

MLS bad officiating
Hard work will beat talent, if talent doesn't work hard.
Huuuuuuge game for USMNT tonight. They host Panama in Orlando and it's a virtual must-win. 6pm on ESPN2
I only watch soccer during the World Cup or the Olympics, but I’m excited for the match tonight.
What do all the soccer experts on here expect? Sounds like pretty much a must win game.
Not technically a must win, but pretty damn close. If they lose, they can not qualify directly but can still qualify through a playoff. There is no guarantee that they would even get to the playoff though.

Yeah, it's not a must win in a literal sense but they HAVE to win.
I personally expect them to come out and control the game. I'd hope that they've looked in the mirror and recognized that what we've seen lately is not what USA soccer is about.
PULISIC!!!!!!
The boy wonder!
PULISIC!!!!!!
