That one goes out to the annoying German fan at the bar laughing like a witch at Brazil's draw against a very good Switzerland team, right after Germany lost to Mexico lol.
No guarantees for Brazil, this afternoon could be just as crazy if they don't take care of business.
Absolutely shocking from Germany. It was on a silver platter for them to qualify, and they couldn't get it done. Very atypical of German soccer.
They never looked like they were on the same page, missing little through balls and passes, which is exceptionally rare for Die Mannschaft.

Ugh, Paulinho.
Still can't believe he's with Barcelona. He was so shit for Spurs.
Watching Germany is like watching the gophers.... my god
I can only imagine...
Keep your stick on the ice...
Serbia is pinning Brazil back. Lucky this game isn't 1-1
Aaaand bang. Just like that it's 2-0.
Serbia didn't cash in, and it's going to cost them.
Sorry Mexico
If I'm England or Belgium, I do not want to be the group winner. Being in that top half of the bracket is going to be much more difficult.
It will be like that South Park episode where both baseball teams try to lose.
Just saw this on USCHO:
The last time the Germans got bounced out of the World Cup at the group stage was 1938. Hope they take it better this time.

FIFA already came out and said that any yellows deemed to be "intentional" could lead to suspensions, if they feel any players are trying to pick up a cheap yellow in order to finish 2nd
That sounds like a solution in search of a problem. Of course it is FIFA.

Surprised FIFA isn’t offering to sell yellow cards to offset the cost of their junkets
Now they can play to win I'd say to avoid Colombia
Based on Elo ratings number two in the world Spain will get lowest ranked round of 16 team Russia (45th) who has a home advantage for a slight boost.
Winner of Belgium England group deservedly gets also low ranked Japan (42nd).
Number one in the world Brazil gets third lowest round of 16 team Mexico, ranked 19th.
Overall the balance isn't THAT bad, but top half of quarterfinals could look like a world cup final four.
Actually it sounds like James is probably out. Lose lose lose!
This is awesome. Fans in Mexico City partying with the Korean consul general:

They were also lifting up random Koreans on their shoulders and walking them through the streets.
With Senegal being eliminated, this is the first time since 1982 that no African nations have made it to the knockouts.

2010: Ghana

Falls to you just outside the 16 on a tiny bounce you take a hit, guy on England
Portugal (5) vs France (3)
Brazil (1) vs Belgium (4)
Spain (2) and some other teams
I can't help but think this color guy in the France and Argentina match sounds like Troy Aikman. Thankfully the play by play guy doesn't sound like Joe Buck.
Sick shot
Di Maria, what a banger.

Hahaha, I get that too. I really like him, he clearly knows his stuff, but he does sound like Aikman
Didn't think the Argentinean needed to take that foul to give France the spot, but what a strike by Di Maria to make it level!
HO LEE SHIT.
What a fucking goal.
Good lord
Unbelievable strike.
What a game
Oh my France!

Game over
Holy crap, what a game.
Now ARG will get cheap and probably try to fight
They are SO predictable hahahah
Cavani, filthy!
Wow!
This has been easily the best World Cup I can remember.
If all soccer games were more like the 2 games today, the level of interest in the US would be much higher. 2 exciting games!
Cavani is a magician

I feel like he's usually not that clinical, he seems to waste a lot of chances. Picked a good day to be on, though!
France will beat Uruguay they're way too good.

Americans just don’t get into soccer. Especially if the US is not in the World Cup. Soccer will never trump the 4 major sports. Even though they get an avg. attendance higher then 2 of the 4 (NHL & NBA). And soccer will still sit behind NASCAR and golf for Americans.

France definitely kicked it into another gear today. I've said for the last year or so that I think France is the most talented team in the world. Whether or not they can put it all together in one tournament is another question. They full just short in Euros a couple years ago, it'll be fun to see what they can do with 2 more years of experience.
Mbappe is the new Ronaldo Fenomeno with how he can blow past defenders while controlling the ball. That alone makes them much more dangerous than two years ago.

Soccer in America when you look at attendance. MLS is one of the most highly attended soccer leagues in the world. On par with soccer crazed countries like Italy, France, Netherlands. I suppose our proportionally large population helps with that.
But when you look at TV ratings, they're pretty bad. It seems that if Americans aren't actually going to soccer matches, they're generally not tuning in on TV.
This is just for MLS. TV ratings for English soccer are fantastic. I guess it makes sense when you think about all the markets without MLS teams. If they don't have a team to root for in MLS, why wouldn't they watch the EPL, La Liga, or Bundesliga, to watch the best in the world.

The penalty that Mbappe drew today was insane.
Like a 60 yard run and he still blew right past Otamendi. (I think that's who fouled him)

I’m not a huge soccer fan, I love the World Cup and the Olympics, but I’d watch a match between two 14U teams from Honduras before I’d ever watch a NASCAR race.

Give me Uruguay in a heartbeat. They have a real defense unlike Argentina, and Suarez and Cavani can feast on a group that just gave up 3 to Argentina who have been terrible in the attacking third all tournament.

Uruguay can definitely do it, but France is also a solid defensive team. On giving up 3 to Argentina today... One was a moment of magic from Di Maria, the other was kind of a fluky deflection, and then Aguero got one in desperation time right before the whistle. None of those goals I feel were a result of poor defense. You could argue that they should have been out marking Di Maria, he was kind of all alone, but sometimes you have to make those decisions, and tip your cap if they pull something off like Di Maria did.
Also, if you want to watch Pavard's stunner on infinite loop:
