@g-manpuck Maybe he figures is a shoo in to start, as a freshman, since all other options appear to be so bad.
I had that very same thought when I saw his committal on Twitter. Iowa's QB room is abysmal so hopefully Kirk is just getting a better plan for the future lined up. I hope that is the case.

Iowa won 27-0 but don't think for a minute that Iowa's offense looked good. I gave up watching after the second lightening delay happened. Brian Ferentz still can't call a game and Spencer Petras still sucks. The only highlight on offense was freshman Kaleb Johnson had 103 yards of rushing, mainly through runs of 40 and 55 for a TD each time.
Petras was helped by having the two best receivers back on the field which helped spreading out the defense. For whatever reason B. Ferentz kept calling longer throws to the younger receivers which were incompletions but the young receivers can't run good routes...and Petras can't throw the effing ball. The offensive line looked average. They would look good in streaks and then look awful at other times. Still a major work in progress.
The defense looked pretty good. The good stat of the night or stats was that 4 of the top 5 tacklers for the game were linemen or linebackers, so they did a great job of not letting Nevada stretch plays to the second and third levels. Jack Campbell just quietly racks up tackles, another solid MLB for Iowa.
Special teams looked really good. Tory Taylor is definitely an asset when he can put teams inside the 10 quite often. Iowa made a change at kicker which netted two FG's for the night. That was after the previous two games with the kicker missing two FG chances.
I'll still put Iowa as a 6-6 team, Purdue and Northwestern are my two coin flip games on the schedule. I see four guaranteed losses to Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. I'll just keep watching Iowa football and just see what happens. We'll get a bowl game but the game will be in 2022 and not 2023, and for how this team plays that is what is deserved.

Missouri found new and interesting ways to snatch a loss from the jaws of victory. Amazing.

Why does Ohio St. need to be so unoriginal with the all black uniforms and the blackout at night. They have one of the most iconic helmets in football. It’s works for Penn State and the whiteout in Happy Valley. I hope Gophers wear solid maroon uniform when they play PSU in a couple weeks. I’ve said it before, but I think the Gophers best uniforms are are the solid maroon uniforms under the lights at night.

So NE didn't lose this week (only because they didn't have a game) but watching Martinez run wild through OU must make it feel like a loss.
That's a shame.

Middle Tennessee is now 3-0 against Miami (FL). Probably stop inviting them down soon.
Although I am a Jim Kelly fan, I always hated MIA (FL). Screw 'em.
As much as I want to hate the 'canes, I can't. My niece just got a job as an athletic trainer for their swim and dive team. So, I suppose that makes them my third favorite college team, behind and the the U.S. Naval Academy.

Well Iowa is still Iowa but a win is still a win against Rutgers. They put up points but the lion's share was still put up by the defense via a pick six and a fumble recovery run for a TD.
The offense wasn't horrible but they were able to run the ball for 129 yards, first time over a hundred on the season, how sad is that statement for an Iowa team. Petras wasn't horrible but he didn't have to make too many throws or make too many decisions.
While the defense won the game via turnovers turned into points, they gave up 361 yards of which 300 were through the air. Having a nationally heralded defensive backfield it is concerning to give up that many yards through the air, but this is a typical "bend don't break" Parker defense...they still only gave up 10 points.
So Iowa is improving a little, I'm not feeling so chicken little but I still hold no hope of beating Michigan, Ohio State, Minnesota, or Wisconsin. I'm feeling better about our odds beating both Northwestern and Purdue though. In the end of it all though it will suck to give up Floyd and not get back the Heartland trophy from Becky after already losing the Cy-Hawk trophy. Keeping the Heroes trophy from Nebraska this season will have little meaning.

I don't think I have ever won a sports gambling bet in my life. I don't bet often but I guess I've placed 20 or so sports bets in my life, most in Vegas. I don't recall winning any of them.
I did place $50 on Rutgers +8 points vs Iowa because the Iwoa offense is so bad. God Dammit if the defense doesn't convert 2 turnovers into TD to keep my betting streak in tact. I hate Iwoa

I had a memorable winning sports bet... Dropped $20 in February 2003 on the NCAA Hockey Championship.

I don't think Iowa fans are dumb enough to bet on this year's team. I don't think it was a bad bet to take the points at all. If you read the offensive stat line for both teams you would have thought this was a much different game. Even though I watched the game I found Rutgers stats much better than I thought they were.
