I don’t see the old NCAA football thread (non-gopher) so figured I’d create one.
Hopefully that one Nebraska fan isn’t on suicide watch ?. https://twitter.com/cornnation/status/1563621111845249025?s=21&t=8oSu1Mm-71xfWT5Jq8HRTQ
But they puked a lot in practice this year!!! What in the world do they need to do?!

Scott Frost is 15-30 in 4 seasons and a game into the 5th season, no Bowl Games and still has a job. Bo Pelini was 67-27, 4 BIG Division Championships (2 2nd's and a 3rd) in 7 seasons, 3-3 (Fired before the 2014 Holiday Bowl) in Bowl Games and they ran him out of town. Nebraska get's everything they deserve.
Keep your stick on the ice...
Frost now has the same record as Basement Brew
Though Brew got the Gophers to 2 "Insight Bowl Games".

And we get to celebrate Bo Pelini day (9/4) next week.
NE is MN in the mid 60s, amazing years in its recent past with the glory days fast fading in the rearview mirror with every coach firing/hiring.
That's a shame.

I'd say more like 1975 but point well taken.

Well it was timeline based.
Gophs won the title in '60, 25 years later is 1985.
Nebraska won a share of the title in 1997, 25 years later is now.
Nebraska hasn't won a conference title this century. They havent won a division title since the creation of the Big Ten West. (they won the Legends division once)
I guess I'll put my thoughts on Iowa here where it belongs instead of taking up more space in the Gopher thread.
I see Iowa as an 8-4 team and that is because the defense will keep them in games. Spencer Petras really makes me miss Nate Stanley and Ricky Stanzi. I see definite losses to both Michigan and Ohio State with a probably loss to Northwestern because we can't seem to beat them at home. Youth and inexperience both at RB and WR will definitely hurt. Nico Ragaini is out for the first two games at WR leaving nothing but sophomores on the field. Also at RB it's nothing but untested sophomores, but I can always hope for a breakout season a la Shonn Greene.
The last loss is either to Wisconsin or Minnesota. I just don't see any of these teams sweeping both games against each other. If a team does sweep the games that is your Big Ten West winner.
Iowa could eek out a win at home against Northwestern to make it nine wins but my gut just has Iowa a eight win team this year. As everyone knows though, my barometer on Iowa's season happens against Iowa State on Sept. 10th.

@g-manpuck 8 wins? Sounds like a Mankato West regular season!
Why yes it does...

You sand bag every year.
Iowa will beat NU.

I do...even the year Iowa went undefeated and made it to the B1G Championship game I had them as a nine win team. I still will only put the chances of Iowa beating NU at maybe 40%...I wouldn't even flip a coin on that game.

I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
New 'College Football Rule' this year... An offensive player can't block a defensive player below the waist outside the tackle box. Ok, I'm fine with it. While we are at, a rule I have asked for, for years. No tackles at the knee or below outside the tackle box?!?!?!
Keep your stick on the ice...
So Purdue isn’t going away…
Not seeing Pedo St as a impact team with this level of QB play.
17 for Purdue with the pic, great 72 yard return and then pukes on the sideline.

Scott Frost will definitely show that film to his team!

Impressive drive by PSU to take the lead.
Urban Meyer being back on the Fox college coverage is ridiculous.

If SDSU can find a bag of tricks and stop giving up safeties....
Good lord Iowa's offense is abysmal. Iowa is going to have to gain a lot of experience to have a chance to win the B1G West from Minnesota or Wisconsin. I'm glad to hear that Iowa State is an awful team so that Iowa will have a chance to win next week.
I know that SDSU is one of the best FCS teams so this wasn't a cakewalk but again Iowa's offense is god awful. Petras is awful. Our o-line is awful. Our defense is again our saving grace.
They're my team but I don't understand how Ferentz keeps sticking with Petras who is awful and has been since he took over after Stanley graduated. I know that Padilla is just as bad behind him. Iowa quarterbacks don't need to be other worldly but they need to be competent, that isn't Petras. I get it though, if our o-line was better he could have half a chance.

Looks like Iowa got some good relief pitching and some key hits in the late innings.

They surely benefited by the disparity in penalties handed out.

North Carolina 63, Appalachian State 61.
In the 4th quarter App. St. put 40 points and UNC put up 22. 62 points in one quarter... how is that even possible... LoL!!!

Iowa's D is probably a Top 10 defense. Though their offense is garbage. Daddy better be having a come to Jesus talk with son. Or it could be a long season for Iowa. The defense will only be able to bail out the offense only so many times.

When asked by the media postgame Ferentz said that there won't be a change at QB, which is a pure Ferentz move. His only real comment is that everyone has to get better for next weekend.
Yes, sonny boy did an awful job of calling the game and having his offense prepared for the game. It seems to me though that sonny boy is trending the way of the awful play calling of former OC Greg Davis. It's usually the talent on the o-line that helps the offense move the ball. The problem is the talent on the o-line has to improve tremendously to help the below average QB Iowa is stuck with.
If next weekend doesn't show some improvement it will be foreshadowing of a long season ahead.

Kinda reminds me of some gopher games last year where the line was struggling and they ran up the middle every play.
Absolutely bananas ending of the FSU - LSU game. Both teams traded great plays and bonehead mistakes.
Every year this is my favorite week to talk smack to the other "university" in the state of Iowa. After last Saturday I don't have the balls or maybe I'm just using commonsense to keep my mouth shut. This is the least confident I've been in years about Iowa's chances to win this game even though it's in Iowa City.
I looked at the Vegas odds and they have it at Iowa -3.5 which seems reasonable. Then Vegas has the O/U at 41.5 right now... ? I'm calling this game 13-3 Iowa win with five safeties and a field goal. Ok, not really...I'll go with the score but somehow Petras will get Iowa a touchdown.
Go HAWKS!

New Top 25 puts Georgia ahead of OSU.
OSU beats a top 5 team and Georgia beats a team.
I guess I shouldn’t be surprised and it all shakes out in the end but silly to me.
https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/football/fbs/associated-press
Oregon was ranked 11 or something and Georgia absolutely obliterated them. OSU won a close one. Not that preposterous imo.
edit: I kinda forgot that OSU was ranked ahead of Georgia before that game but I guess it depends how much you think preseason rankings matter

Wow the stripes are clueless in the Alabama/Texas game. Can they make it any more obvious in favor of Alabama?!?!?!
Keep your stick on the ice...
If the game winning points for Texas to beat Alabama ends up coming from a kicker named Auburn…that would be awesome.
The downside would be TX winning.
