Wild sign some depth/minor league players today.
SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Minnesota Wild President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Bill Guerin today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed goaltender Cal Petersen to a one-year $775,000 contract, forward Nicolas Aube-Kubel to a one-year, two-way contract ($775,000/$500,000), defenseman Ben Gleason to a one-year, two-way contract ($800,000/$475,000), defenseman Matt Kiersted to a two-year, two-way contract ($775,000/$450,000) and forward Tyler Pitlickto a two-year, two-way contract ($775,000/$300,000 in 2025-26 and $775,000/$350,000 in 2026-27)
so as usual the Wild sign some low average players while the rest of the NHL teams sign high quality players

Because of the World Juniors and the all-star/olympic break there are some oddities in the schedule. For the World Juniors, they start out a 7 game road trip in Winnipeg on the Dec 27th and then play 6 west coast teams before coming home on Jan 10th. Then they play 1 home game in Feb and have 21 days off.

Rossi is a tough one for me. Ton of his “market value” is coming from valuations based on him playing last year as our 1C and that drug up his offensive production stats which is not where they’re going to play him. Think this is a good deal, but don’t view it as quite the “steal” they’re reporting it as given if expect, given health, his numbers drop quite a bit this year with him being a 40-50 pt guy and not a PPG player.

Potentially but with the cap known to be increasing quite a bit the next few years I’d be surprised if he maxed out term. Strange to think but 16 million could be a bargain for him in 6 years… It really just depends on cap growth over time and contract amount as a percentage of that cap figure.

I’d agree on the top ten range. Think that’s pretty fair and do think he’ll remain there for the next 3-5 years.
as far as the dollar amount, think the hard part to me is kk knows he has the Wild by the balls as at worst he hits fa and misses on one year of guaranteed money but will have multiple teams with space and higher caps while in his prime so it’s wild impetus to get him signed. I’d be a lot happier if the deal is about 1mil above drai than the two that’s being speculated depending on the years. Mcdavid should reset the market unless he cuts a hometown deal

I mean it'll be 15% higher until McDavid signs. It's like being the highest paid QB in the NFL. Whoever is up first, congratulations you're the top paid player.
KK will get whatever he wants. If you're a top 5 player in the world, you deserve to be at the tippy top of salary. The Wild would in no way match what they'll get out of him on the roster in a trade when he has a full NMC and letting him go in FA would be a disaster.

They have to pay what it takes to get his name on the line that is dotted. Not signing KK would be catastrophic to a franchise that hasn’t advanced past the first round of the playoffs in a DECADE. It’s getting perilously close to TWINS level futility in terms of postseason failure!

”overpaying” will never seem like an intelligent decision, but the problem is the cap is going to grow in an unprecedented fashion right now with KK not going to want to cut the years. Think that’s where I’d see 15 over 8 (120 total) for the security but you may see 16 if the length is shorter as the Wild have basically lost all leverage with him in negotiating and he knows that.
from a cap side, think it depends on the roster you want. Can be super top heavy but a team like Edmonton needs mcdavid to cut them a deal to keep their team together. Mn gets fucked because Vegas, dallas, Florida, etc can offer lower aavs but the guys take home more (hence why Eichel will get less but make as much if not more than KK). I’d probably say the top 5 forwards and d men are worth that price.
think all anyone is saying is if you’re saying he’s coming back, 14-16 isn’t the deal breaker in doing so. Whether that’s smart Pends what else you put around that guy (would I rather have mcdavid at 16, yeah absolutely but you also can only sign the guys you have access to and no other comp is going to hit the market as a FA)

If he's worth $14m can you logically explain how $2 more per year is a problematic number against the cap for retaining one of the best players in the league, as well as what the pros would be and what the roster would look like if they don't sign him? Thanks
